The placebo effect is an actual thing. Thinking you're not sick or have been cured can sometimes actually help. Similarly, the nocebo effect can make you sick when you think something will make you sick. However, I wonder if in this case there's also some confirmation bias because when you're not _that_ sick, you get better before you come to terms with being sick, so in hindsight you feel like you tricked yourself into getting better. But when you're really sick, you don't get better as quickly, so you come to terms with being sick, which makes it look like you get sick when you accept that you are sick, even though it's really the other way around.

On the subject of guided tours, the worst one for me, was when I was a kid. There was a group trip during October for a corn maze. It was a guided tour. For a MAZE. Doctor here, gastroenteritis actually refers to any inflammation of the stomach and intestines (literally: "gastro" = stomach; "enteric" = intestines; "-itis" = inflammation). The more common terms "stomach flu" and "food poisoning" would differ in what exactly causes the disease: stomach flu being caused by viruses while food poisoning by bacteria. Both of these can result in the irritation and subsequent inflammation of your digestive tract, hence gastroenteritis can actually refer to both stomach flu and food poisoning. So yes, "food poisoning" is also considered a disease! (Sorry Connor)

1:45:00 one good thing my school did was for whatever reason, we had a whole group of historical actors come in to our school and play out a medieval battle in our school field and allowed us to fight each other with swords and stuff. Apparently a pretty major battle happened where I grew up so it was supposed to teach us about our local history but I just remember it being pretty cool and a nice interactive way of teaching us history. Another thing we did in school was the ‘evacuee experience’ where we all dressed up in clothes from the 1930s and spent a day being a WW2 evacuee. We took an old steam train and learned about the war and rations and stuff which was really immersive and a good way of teaching kids about such events. So yeah, those were pretty cool.

As a History teacher, they are totally right, it is wholly dependant on the way you teach it. Tip, if you involved it into a modern phenomenon can help at least show interest. I think outlook can help too though. If you approach a museum or a historical site like "ugh, this was a lot of money, this'd better entertain me" you're more often going to leave disappointed than if you come at it with an open mind and curiosity. A good history teacher helps people develop that curiosity, and it sounds like you're doing that.

Getting older when you've been to something so many times that you can map out how your day is gonna go that's when you know that it just doesn't bring that same level of excitement as it used to but you don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. Like with conventions, I honestly can only stand to be inside a convention hall for maybe 5 hours tops, maybe 6 if I'm in a panel or something like that. But when I was younger I wanted to spend the entire day in there even though I went to everything it had available for my age group. But there's a benefit to having a hotel room to go back to in order to unwind, recharge, and figure out what you're doing next. Because if you have a room to go back to at the end of your day inside the convention hall then you have a moment to decompress from being in that environment that really drains your social battery. Talking to vendors about having a low social battery at the end of your day there and hearing how they're on the same wavelength but they have to stay for the full day makes me appreciate their hard work.

Joey, I feel your pain. In Spain we usually use the Greek terms for medical stuff, so when I moved to France, or even when I talk to people in English they look at me weird. Or when a doctor here tries to explain a diagnosis to me and I go "... oh, so you mean [random Greek words]" *confused French Doctor* "yes... that... that's correct actually".

We used to go to Disneyland (Anaheim, CA) every few years. We'd get our trip through Costco Wholesale. The package came with a theme dinner at the restaurant with Disney characters. We had to make reservations ahead of time. Still felt cool, but mostly we looked forward to our reservation at the Blue Bayou restaurant in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That was much more exciting!

The thing is if you feel your throat getting bad, like aching/scratching, that is indeed a signal that it's going to get inflamated, and you can reduce by a lot, or even prevent it if you drink enough liquid that helps with it, just drinking a lot of water and trying to wash it, it will help a lot, but there are other things that can pretty much heal on the go, like rice soup...

Avatar 2 was a great movie in the 3D IMAX experience. My family and I enjoyed it, it was so gorgeous to watch and even though it was a bit long, I didn’t mind. It’s similar to how long the LoTR movies are where you appreciate the info and details into their universe. Also, in the US I saw a lot of promotions and advertisements for this movie. Everyone in my group of friends was talking about it and people are still watching it. I’m going to see it again now that the crowds have died down 😂

Being a tourist is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing in the sense it allows you to roam a country hastle free, but a curse in the sense you're doomed to visit touristy places if you're with family lmao

@@Invictus-Solaris just me, but I wanna see other smaller places instead of something I see all the time on TV. Like in America I rather visit smaller towns than somewhere like LA.
@JaimeNyx152 жыл бұрын
It's only really worth visiting the touristy spots if you know a bit about them going in, imo. The crowds, costs, and waits put enough of a damper on the experience that going in blind can be a recipe for disappointment. Some of the tours and exhibits do a good enough job that you don't need it, but it's just a reality that not all of these places are up to that standard, especially accounting for different learning styles. But if you know a bit about what you're looking for and interested in going in, it's easier to find things to like.

There is a bias that only people who got sick on the New Year / Christmas, but it feels like 1 out of 3 got sick. I got a bad cold at the end of December, and my family was like, well, we resent you mildly suffering this week, but please just leave it off on the day when we gather together. I can't just think away coughing and sneezing all the time. If I could, I wouldn't even had gone sick in the first place!

Worldwide, people have more access to technology than anesthesia services. I did a quick search on number of anesthesiologists in Japan and it seems like, similar to a lot of countries, there is a shortage of anesthesia providers there which may explain why some procedures are done without an anesthesiology services.

Poutine started as a low wage working class Québécois meal to go. It wasn't made to appear fancy. In fact, we were ridiculed for it and some elderly Québécois to this day refuse to eat it because they remember the stigma around it. You gotta try poutine in Québec before making your mind on poutine. Most provinces don't even have fresh cheese curds which is a game changer.

Yeah, gastroenteritis itself won't kill you. But if you keep vomiting and pissing out your butt you rapidly lose water, and if the nausea is so strong that you throw up from drinking water you might die from dehydration. xD They gave me an IV in the emergency room when I got the bug and I was hospitalized. I also got the stomach ulcers (gastritis) that Joey mentioned. Not a fun time at all. Lol.

Great take by Joey, because monogatari has two watch orders, broadcast vs chronological but it is much harder to start monogatari on a season other than bakemonogatari because so much context is lost such as character introductions or role they play. So I would 100% always recommend broadcast order (bake-nise-mono2nd) first then watch it chronologically again after (kizu-neko-bake-nise). Also non-linear narrative structures are far more common than what contemporary TV has displayed, kaleidoscope is nothing special but it's use of it's platform to mix up the narrative is very cool.
