The lines I liked in the previous episode about Harris, the watch & the trial... 1. "Gentleman, I don't know how to put this, but there is a thief among us ". 2. Harris, "So I've definitely been found not guilty then?" (of stealing the Judge's watch). "Right, I'll go and get it." Class Comedy.

i always thought it was Maurice Denham, was the narrator at the beginning, who sentences fletcher for 5 years, Turned out to be Ronnie Barker.

Ronnie Barker always regretted narrating the beginning of the show because it detracts that it's the voice of Fletcher reading out Fletcher's sentence. I agree with him that the BBC should have got someone else to read it.

And how exactly do you think the BBC managed to make Porridge? Was it, perhaps, financed by the licence fee?

@@lomax343 the same way the other channels make programs, by showing adverts to fund their channels and programming instead of fleecing people for money with what is essentially a tv tax A cosy little arrangement between the government and the bbc so the bbc can promote government lies whilst the Government continue keep the bbc publicly funded and the bbc don't dare bite the hand that keeps them funded by the license payers.

@@ValiantWrestling Forcing the BBC to become an advert-showing commercial station (which, I fear, is being genuinely considered) would be to destroy the second-greatest (after the NHS) of all British institutions. As for the "cosy little relationship," successive governments have, for decades, attacked the BBC for its "anti-government bias." The licence fee is not a perfect way of funding the BBC - but it's FAR better than any conceivable alternative.

@@lomax343 It's not the funding of the programs that the public baulk at , it's the Fucken obscenely ludicrous wage of someone such as a newsreader who gets £300,000 + , the Anthea Turners etc , worthless nobody's that become multi millionaire's on our shilling . In anyone's book they took the pi$$ .
