First impressions are important. The Wii U launched with NintendoLand and a few other 3rd party games nobody cared about. But the Switch launched with Breath of the Wild. That changed everything. Playing a truly open world Zelda for the first time on a brand new system that was both portable and dockable felt like magic. The crazy thing about the Switch launch year is that it also featured Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2. These are 3 of my personal favourites. This system benefited tremendously by combining their handheld + console divisions into one, which allowed Nintendo to release their full software potential onto a single hybrid; thus making it their best console to date.
@GarrettBuffington5 ай бұрын
Good point, they were able to focus all their efforts on one system, (instead of the WiiU and 3DS for ex.) leading to higher quality games.
@lttkzr5 ай бұрын
Honestly I don’t think that the launch titles have that much influence on the long term results of a console. Think about that the Switchs “official” launch title was 1, 2 Switch. On the other hand, Nintendo Land was a way better “tech demo” but the Wii U sold terribly. I think that the hybrid functionality together with long term support from first and third party developers were bigger influences
@kellokabana23995 ай бұрын
@@lttkzr The Wii U was marketed towards children. The Switch was marketed towards adults. Wii U sales were driven primarily by Nintendo Land and NSMBU at launch. 1, 2 Switch was never meant to be anything more than a fun little demo for the joy-cons. Breath of the Wild was the game Nintendo was aggressively promoting with special and master editions. All the commercials for Switch featured adults playing the Switch inside and outside of their homes. Also, third party has never been a driving force for Nintendo platforms. Even on Switch which enjoyed much better 3rd party support. Switch sales are still driven by first party games.
@lttkzr5 ай бұрын
@@kellokabana2399 Well, I guess you're missing something. When the Wii U marketing campaign started Nintendo was targeting the console as something made for "casual and hardcore games". Think about the effort Ninendo pushed to bring games from Ubisoft and Activision like Batman Arkham City: AE, or the latest Call of Duty's, whitch for the first time since the Wii had the same experience as the ones on the other consoles. People used to mock the Wii for the simplicity of their games mechanics and the significantly inferior graphics. Honestly I think that at the same time that Nintendo tried to sell the Wii U as a console for both "casual and hardcore" gamers, it happened to not please any one of them. It is true though, the Switch started way better with its launch titles, but I think there were some other things more relevant to the failure of the Wii U.
@kellokabana23995 ай бұрын
@@lttkzr Except nobody bought a Wii U to play those multiplat games because Nintendo hardware is driven by first party software. The Wii U launched with Nintendo Land and a gamepad that looked like a fisher price toy. That’s what was capturing all of the headlines. Just to underscore the importance of a system’s launch, the 90’s was a graveyard for failed systems: Atari Jaguar, 3-do, Sega Saturn….even Nintendo’s own Virtual Boy. They quickly abandoned it. You could point to a variety of factors for why they failed, but they all share similar birth pains. Nintendo were forced to drop the price of 3DS from 250$ to 170$ within just 5 months of release to overcome bad press and a stale launch. They couldn’t do the same for Wii U since the console was too expensive to manufacture. Also the lack of interest in a system at launch will quickly drive developers away. So even those devs who supported the Wii U initially were quick to abandon ship.

As the years went on, I noticed that the quality of games, started to drop off due to developers not caring, and the hardware being outdated. I was hoping I would’ve ended my switch tenure with a banger like how I started but after 50+ games and TOTK sealing the deal, I pick up my Zelda switch lite on the 26th and that will be my final switch product. I feel as though people are not going to buy the next console as much as they bought the switch. Not only did the switch innovate so much compared to the previous version, leaks are essentially pointing toward a switch 2. I think most people are only going to see the next version as the Switch pro and will not buy into it. This will end in something like the Meta Quest, where the quest 3 won't get many sales because of the small differences and the quest 2 will continue getting support and games because it's the most popular one. If they want to win the consumer, they have to have something very new, hopefully along with the personality the switch lacked (3DS software vs switch).

Well done on the video. Keep at it and you'll have quite a pretty penny in subs

The themes is even crazier given all the rewards you can earn with the points system. Would have been cool to get themes for specific games like you can avatars.

Beautiful wallpaper, do you have a link for it? Also, the editing was phenomenal, I thought you woulda had a couple hundred thousand subs with that quality. Earned a sub, keep up the good work!

Thanks! More on the way soon. The wallpaper is from an app on Steam called Wallpaper Engine. It's like $4 I believe and gives you access to tons of free animated wallpapers. Just search Legend of Zelda on the app.

I would certainly like some more internal storage options. I'm maxing out that micro SD with the backlog. Great vid by the way, enjoyed your thoughts on it.

This thing will be around for decades on the 2nd hand market not just for switch games alone, but for the modded switch and lite scene

What kind of stuff does a modded switch offer?

The only thing that makes sense right now is to build upon this huge success my only hope is retro compatibility between switch 1 and 2

I've been an Nintendo guy ever since I got my first NES as a wee one in the 80s. I've loved my Switch, but put it away about 6 months ago after finishing TOTK and haven't really picked it up since then (my Animal Crossing island must be overgrown with weeds). I've been on the PS5 scratching that Zelda RPG itch with AC Origins - Odyssey - Valhalla. Looking forward to Switch 2 news, it's been far too long! Thanks for th video

Too soon to say thank you Switch 2 hasn’t been announced yet. You still have time to enjoy the rest of the switch games. And I think it could be next year for switch 2, or unfortunately 2-3 years.

They already said they're announcing it before march of next year, so it's definitely releasing next year.

Think the worst thing about the switch games-wise is the massive sinkhole spin-off pokemon games faced. Forget about whatever is going on with the main series, after the meteoric rise spin-off games reached during the gba/ds era of pokemon, it slowly fell down during the 3ds/wii u era with maybe a couple good/decent games, but with those systems not pushing numbers like the ds and wii(even with how good the 3ds was) devs were not interested in putting out brand new spin-off games. And after the boom of Pokemon Go, it was practically over, we've gotten more spin-offs with a live service/mobile market in mind than all of nintendos other mobile games combined so even with nintendo back on their game with the switch, no one is making games like colosseum or rangers etc.. it's mainly f2p games with a mystery dungeon remake being the last bastion of the traditional spin-off games

just found yout channel, I really appreciate a person talking about nintendo games without being a soyfacing overreactor or a snobby video essayist.

I remember when the Wii U came out, everyone thought it was what the Switch would later be and where disappointment you couldn't take the pad on the go and play. Also amazing how Nintendo took that and ran with it while they were underwater. The Switch was rushed.
