These self-contained regional production centres were vital for properly representing voices from across the UK, a genuine alternative to the London-dominated media. Productions from Pebble Mill or Oxford Road or the "Pink Palace" in Newcastle genuinely had a different feel to them. It's all a far cry from the "outside London" box ticking of today (Pinewood counts as "regional"? Really??)
