These may just be the saddest and most hopeful lyrics in one song ever. The horror of hatred and the promise of love that transcends hate… The great Joni wrote this while staying with the band at Mingus’ place, I read somewhere. The lyric is a lot of what Mingus had lived through and experienced, mingled with Joni’s story and commentary. And then there’s this stellar band performing this so beautifully and intricate. Touches me every time I hear it.

@skineyemin42763 жыл бұрын
Name the other styles that she has mastered.., other than what she sung on her Mingus album of which Mingus composed the melody including the tenor sax solo that Joni wrote lyrics to the already existing melody. She is unique and has her own amazing style and the music she writes (at least since Jaco played with her) required high level musicians to perform it well, many of whom were jazz musicians. But, as far as styles.., I haven't heard Joni do an Aretha Franklin type record, a 1970s Sly Stone type of recording, any black gospel music. Joni's music was her own genre.

It's so nice to realize ,that the puplic (that time it was usual on jazz concerts) listens strong to the music , they "feel" parallel ,what the music and (!) text says ,so they are 100 % involved in it . Not like today, where almost all the musical stuff on a concert must be just fast and loud to be mentioned and reacted positively . Anything else would be reacted as "boring"......very sad,where the today public has been changed . And sometimes musicians are responsible for that as well (I mean the way,how many of them play today) ,not only the media and the people in the public....this project is timeless ,musically absolutely on top in jazz history . A real milestone of the chamber music in jazz .
