The X59 is a test plane, not an experimental fighter. That's not to suggest any knowledge gleaned regarding airflow. Sound damping at mock speeds would benefit any future fighter.

It most likely wouldn’t. There has to be allot of design compromises to make it quiet. I doubt you could make a fighter jet quiet while still having be useful for performing its role as a fighter aircraft. Maybe for some sort of supersonic surveillance drone or sum 🤷🏼‍♂️ but there’s not rlly any need for such a aircraft

⁠@@DiamondSquidyI was trying to figure this out. Replace the F22 but testing to fly over land. If I was a fighter pilot I would not want to fly that thing in combat. The blind spots are crazy. Cameras stop working. I know other jets have blind spots but this looks like driving a bus from the back seat with the windows blacked out.

No. The design is to limit the shock waves generated at supersonic speeds. Every protruding surface generates shock waves.

Yes, this video is ridiculous. The X-59 has never ever been designed as a combat demonstrator! I’m an engineer on the project. It is for commercial demonstration.

First and foremost, NASA should develop reliable space crafts that can bring their astronauts safely to and back from the International Space Station (ISS). Two of their astronauts have been stranded at the ISS since very early June 2024.

It’s not really a replacement of the F-22. It has more commercial use as it would permit fast overflight over the internal US States at faster speeds. Its current configuration is probably not stealthy, which is more important for a fighter replacement.

Considering what France achieved decades before, this is a nice but not important advance. Finally any supersonic speed is so expensive, that beside military use it is nice science - but economically no application visible.

One of these planes is meant to turn on a dime and wipe out half a squadron in seconds.(among other things) The other is mostly meant to fly really fast, in a straight line. One IS NOT replacing the other.😂

X59 is not even close to F22 Raptor even just for the speed alone. F22 flies at 1500 mph (1.9x the speed of sound). X59 only able to get up to 1.5 time the speed of sound.

why do they fit 180w panels on the roof of vans when you can get a400w panels for the same money and take the same area if only i could make my only van i would fit 3 400w panels on a pole on the A frame of the van it would fold for travel and be opened for use and be rotated to face the direction of the of the light and adjusted when ever desired
