Still amazes me when I see one of these in the air; I understand the science behind to still...! They are beautiful aircraft. I'm lucky to be in London from where the BA 747s still operate and we can see them daily coming and going from Heathrow.

I was the captain onboard her and it was an emotional moment during the entire flight. I wanted to make the aircraft look amazing on takeoff by taking of at a sleek angle. Moving back to the 777-200ER now. Never really loved the 777 but hey my life is aviation.

Good old BA,those colours do look the biz...she may be old(I know the newer models are about,by old,I mean that unique airframe) but the 747`s still have the looks no other heavy will have,beautiful a\c. ..and those RR`s spooling up and that whine...goose bump time...

BA16 flies Sydney to LHR via Singapore. BA12 to LHR is still a 747 flight. You can book it that way, even via their website if you book it as a multi-city flight.

reading some of your comments on here and some of them are ill informed and frankly some beggar belief. are you forgetting this aircraft has 1971 vintage with a few (quite a few) modifications. BA still and will continue to fly their 744's for quite some time and the one featured in this video NLF was only yesterday 21.02.15 despatched on a mission to Miami. She is coming up on her 25th birthday and still plying the long haul routes and long may she still do so. The 747 transformed aviation - lest we forget that. The 380 and the likes are natural evolutions of what was originally achieved, lets not knock the old bird but admire her achievements. Mx

the dear old girl (747) has become a victim of the finance kings, sadly,the previous 'Worlds Largest Aircraft' seldom flew full Pax Loads. Compared to the A380 Cattle Truck, it was considered a fuel hungry monster, however,the A 380 is now recognised as a fuel hungry aircraft unless the airline is able to FILL both classes of the aircraft. Its all about money, costs etc. The 747 created a new demand for improved airports around the world (with some exceptions such as Melbourne which is around the 1960's from a passenger viewpoint. The 777 appears to hold her own and the new Dreamliner appears to be satisfying the demand for new equipment. It must be understood that today's airlines are directed often by people who haven't a clue about the demands placed on high cost machinery, an aircraft is loosing money so long as it is on the ground of course. Many top executives have shown little knowledge of airline operations and this is a major management disease these days Branson for example, has been ridng both his airlines and railways for many years on Taxpayer funded government handouts and chicanery, doubtless many other airlines operate in a similar fashion, Ryan Air for instance, they'd have Standing room Only if they could get away with it. Back to the greatest Pax a.c ever,the 747's will now do a considerable number of years as Cargo Hacks , so we shall not be seeing the end of them too soon.

Last Air Pacific/ Fiji Airways 744 to SYD is on 07 NOV. Korean Air are bringing the jumbo back in December for a few months and Air New Zealand will be increasing 744 flights to SYD in December. There is also 2 charters that will bring more jumbo jets. Jumbo has some life left in SYD but yes we lost a lot recently which does suck.

Sad moment. Nice sound off those RB211s though! The 747 is such an amazing aircraft, it's truly sad that the 777 series basically killed the 747, with the next generation coming of the 777... well. I guess it's gotta happen with economics and making profit but the 747 is the greatest aircraft ever made (I think anyway). :)

Yep, once the A380's are delivered they're going LHR-LAX and LHR-HKG. Maybe get a chance to fly on one via HKG with QF or CX next time I'm heading back to the UK :P But I don't think we'll see anything larger than 77W in Sydney for some time to come sadly :(

This Sucks, First the JAL 747 is Replaced by the 777 and Recently the Air Pacific 747 has been cut from Air Pacific or "Fiji Airways" Now the BA 747 has been replaced by the 777 and in a few months time the United 747s will be replaced with 777s not to mention Qantas are slowly retiring there 747s. Atlas Air still have 747Fs to Sydney as well as the rare Emirates Sky Cargo but who knows what the future of 747s in Sydney will be.

@stevengravett446110 жыл бұрын
yeah the 747-400 may be retiring but they will eventually have the 747-8
@Michael.Chapman10 жыл бұрын
My understanding is BA will acquire/ operate the 747-8F for cargo... Unlike Lufthansa, I don't think BA intend operating any 747-8 Intercontinentals... Most major carriers with aging 747s will retire them and introduce A380s. Luckily QANTAS has six GE equipped 74-438(ER) purchased in 2002/3 and a smattering of Rolls powered 438s all of which have at least 6 years of useful service life remaining :-)
@carlrobinson25489 жыл бұрын
Keyyyyzzzz they would like to introduce more 787 and aircraft like that from what I'm told the a380 isn't a massive money maker unless you fill it up. Airbus was only on saying a few months back that they will have to offer a a380neo or scrap the production because airlines aren't ordering as many as they thought and some are even rejecting orders near compleation . planes of the future will be like the 787 (all varients including -10 if they decide to build it) and the 777(all variants including the future -9x) and the a350. They can make more money from them buy saving hundreds of millions of dollars in fuel each year

@MrPhucdatbich11 жыл бұрын
Pfft, give me a 747 any day of the week. The interior is only as good as the airline decides to deck it out. I can almost guarantee you that you would NOT be saying the same thing if Emirates decide to equip 11 abreast on their A380s in Economy. If that's "21st century air travel", then no thanks, I'm not interested. Long live the classics!
@ivanblock875310 жыл бұрын
MrPhucdatbich Too bad Emirates wouldn't equip it's A380 with 11 abreast, Airbus already said no to them since day 1, Emirates CEO said they actually want to used 11 abreast seat since they launch their own A380 but Airbus never allow them to do so, stop making shit up! 747 is shit get on with it!

ivan block How is it that bad? NOTHING beats the roar of RB211s, and the feeling of privacy you get on the upperdeck is amazing!
@speedbird15988 жыл бұрын
I really shouldn't start a fight with an eleven year old, but the truth is that a 747 is to this day one of the best aircraft for passenger experience! 777s? They are being cramped with 10 abreast seating by most airlines. 787s? 9 Abreast, they are designed for 8. Meanwhile the 747 can carry 10 Abreast comfortably, and the 767, (another older aircraft) carries 7 abreast comfortably. No airlines have tried to cramp that plane!
