Fabulous.... How many of us have arrived at the departure gate in some overrun hell hole of a city across the globe somewhere and seen the Qantas 747 sitting there and said..... take me home baby 😎

There will never be another more iconic plane/airline combo. Fantastic video!

It will be a sad day when airlines all choose to park there 747s and replace then with zero character tin cans. The 747 is a masterpiece of engineering and should be picked up by more airlines to make our travels more comfortable and smooth.

***** It's certainly a telling time in aviation. There are plenty of aircraft rolling off the line, whether it be 787's, A350's, 777's but it will be a while until we know who the new 'legends' of the skies will be.
@fuzzynutter83448 жыл бұрын
With currently very few customer orders for the 747-8, and indeed the A380 (only 21 of these delivered this year), I fear it won't be long before production ceases and these beasts become confined to the history books. And the irony is that other planes from Boeing and Airbus are the reasons, like the latest 777, 787 and A350, all of which are offering an almost unbeatable combination of very high capacity, very long range and lower operating costs. Leg room and seat width suffers to squeeze in more passengers, but if it works out cheaper for airlines than a 747 or A380 on the same route then the likes of the 777, 787 and A350 are the future.
@truthisknowledge70068 жыл бұрын
True but I still don't think that the 777, 787,a350, or any new wide body offers the space that we should be demanding for our flight. The 747 is faster as well which is important. I think we should go back to the hub and spoke model of air travel and stop all the point to point. This is the reason 737s are starting to cross the Atlantic. Lastly I still think 4 engines are safer then 2. It sounds all well and good to talk statistics until your at 38000 feet and you lose one. Now your dropping in altitude and running the remaining engine hard till you make the emergency landing.

I read a excellent book about the design and building of the 747, of course I can't recall the name right now, but it went into greta detail about the precision of the build, to the ten thousandth of a inch for the wing and fuselage builds, incredible tolerances given the size of the machine. I noticed too in that clip, as the pilot came up on V1, he had to give it a fair amount of stabilizer to keep it straight, you'll see the stab moving around a fair bit just before he rotates...
@ymmlspottingteam8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a really interesting book. If the name comes back to you, let us know :) The stab is very noticeable indeed. It was quite windy that night.

at 2:25 you can notice that at the back of the tail near the APU you can see that the strobe lights have just come on? is there a reason why they didnt turn them on lining up for departure? I thought the new CASA legislation was that if your on a runway intersection or on the runway itself that you had to have your stobe lights on to notify outbound and incoming aircraft that your there so there isnt a runway incursion.
@ymmlspottingteam8 жыл бұрын
Not sure Josh, it could also be that the camera didn't pick it up as it records a fraction of every second and if the lights aren't in sync with the camera it can miss flashes etc.

Great work! There must have been a cross-wind as the rudder is constantly twitching right as he's accelerating. I'm in the US later this year and specifically chose my route so I could take a 747 back from LAX, rather than the A380 from DFW. Really looking forward to only my second trip on a 747 as opportunities may not always be there! The A380 might have a similar market, but the 747 has a whole different visual character to the A380. The 747 looks like it evolved from a fighter jet, the A380 from a whale. 747-400 is just so beautifully proportioned, even more so than the 747-8 in my view.
@ymmlspottingteam8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot mate!! There was a slight crosswind by memory. Had we of not caught the audio with a mic, the wind would have been far more pronounced. We hope you enjoy your trip on the 74 - as you say, really have to take the opportunities while they come!! Could not agree with you more in the sense that the 747 has this amazing character and almost personality like feel to her that the A380 can't match! The 744 works a little nicer than the 748 for sure!!
