The 747. For many, she represents aviation in a nutshell. Between her pure beauty and mere perfection, the 747 sits at the forefront of many aviation enthusiasts hearts. It is as though this bird isn't just a precisely put together piece of metal, wire and comfort, however the connection most of us enthusiasts have with the Queen of the Skies is somewhat human like... it is a connection that is simply indescribable!
Whilst the bond us enthusiasts have with the 747 is something in itself, we can not turn a blind eye to the unbreakable link between the crew and the Queen of the Skies. It would be fantastic to just sit and listen to a pilot/crew member that works on the 747, tell countless stories and also tell of what the 747 means to them!!
As the 747-400 series is slowly being phased out by the leading operators, including Qantas, special moments like this are becoming more and more scarce and so to catch them on film will certainly be one for the ages.
It was only yesterday when here in Australia and at Qantas, we all had to say goodbye to another Qantas 747, VH-OJI as she departed Sydney for the final time bound for Mojave - the 'desert'. Indeed it was a sad occasion but for those of you who have seen photos of her final takeoff, you will be pleased to see the conditions and style she left us in!
This video, showcases the indescribable beauty of the 747, the gorgeous sounds of the CF6 engines and most of all, it showcases an icon, a friend, a loved one; the 747!
Enjoy this gorgeous dusk spool up and takeoff by this very much treasured, Qantas 747 at Melbourne Airport.

It will be a sad day when airlines all choose to park there 747s and replace then with zero character tin cans. The 747 is a masterpiece of engineering and should be picked up by more airlines to make our travels more comfortable and smooth.

***** It's certainly a telling time in aviation. There are plenty of aircraft rolling off the line, whether it be 787's, A350's, 777's but it will be a while until we know who the new 'legends' of the skies will be.
@fuzzynutter8344
@fuzzynutter8344 7 жыл бұрын
With currently very few customer orders for the 747-8, and indeed the A380 (only 21 of these delivered this year), I fear it won't be long before production ceases and these beasts become confined to the history books. And the irony is that other planes from Boeing and Airbus are the reasons, like the latest 777, 787 and A350, all of which are offering an almost unbeatable combination of very high capacity, very long range and lower operating costs. Leg room and seat width suffers to squeeze in more passengers, but if it works out cheaper for airlines than a 747 or A380 on the same route then the likes of the 777, 787 and A350 are the future.
@truthisknowledge7006
@truthisknowledge7006 7 жыл бұрын
True but I still don't think that the 777, 787,a350, or any new wide body offers the space that we should be demanding for our flight. The 747 is faster as well which is important. I think we should go back to the hub and spoke model of air travel and stop all the point to point. This is the reason 737s are starting to cross the Atlantic. Lastly I still think 4 engines are safer then 2. It sounds all well and good to talk statistics until your at 38000 feet and you lose one. Now your dropping in altitude and running the remaining engine hard till you make the emergency landing.

Great work! There must have been a cross-wind as the rudder is constantly twitching right as he's accelerating. I'm in the US later this year and specifically chose my route so I could take a 747 back from LAX, rather than the A380 from DFW. Really looking forward to only my second trip on a 747 as opportunities may not always be there! The A380 might have a similar market, but the 747 has a whole different visual character to the A380. The 747 looks like it evolved from a fighter jet, the A380 from a whale. 747-400 is just so beautifully proportioned, even more so than the 747-8 in my view.
@ymmlspottingteam
@ymmlspottingteam 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot mate!! There was a slight crosswind by memory. Had we of not caught the audio with a mic, the wind would have been far more pronounced. We hope you enjoy your trip on the 74 - as you say, really have to take the opportunities while they come!! Could not agree with you more in the sense that the 747 has this amazing character and almost personality like feel to her that the A380 can't match! The 744 works a little nicer than the 748 for sure!!

There's so much untapped potential with these large four engined planes it's not even funny! Particularly with that domestic version. The ER's able to do flights that A380's do like Sydney to Dubai, Auckland to Dubai, the list goes on.

Just beautiful! I had the opportunity this year to fly the 747-400 (El Al) and 747-8 (Lufthansa). The -400 is legendary, but the -8 is even more regal. Technology, in the form of twins, has surpassed these stately beasts. Progress, I suppose.

at 2:25 you can notice that at the back of the tail near the APU you can see that the strobe lights have just come on? is there a reason why they didnt turn them on lining up for departure? I thought the new CASA legislation was that if your on a runway intersection or on the runway itself that you had to have your stobe lights on to notify outbound and incoming aircraft that your there so there isnt a runway incursion.
@ymmlspottingteam
@ymmlspottingteam 8 жыл бұрын
Not sure Josh, it could also be that the camera didn't pick it up as it records a fraction of every second and if the lights aren't in sync with the camera it can miss flashes etc.

SydneyAirportCapturer HL Thanks mate, I'm not sure if you are aware, but for the vids like this we have two cameras filming as there are two of us (hence the team in our title) and when it gets to editing the clips are synced based on the audio, before being cut into the final version. I read a excellent book about the design and building of the 747, of course I can't recall the name right now, but it went into greta detail about the precision of the build, to the ten thousandth of a inch for the wing and fuselage builds, incredible tolerances given the size of the machine. I noticed too in that clip, as the pilot came up on V1, he had to give it a fair amount of stabilizer to keep it straight, you'll see the stab moving around a fair bit just before he rotates...
@ymmlspottingteam

747: Creating the World’s First Jumbo Jet and Other Adventures from a Life in Aviation by Joe Sutter .... He was the lead aeronautical engineer at Boeing ... Qantas operates the only six passenger 747-400ER's in service......no one else has them. Special aircraft for a special airline.
