*Deep Breath* SO, here it is. The big announcement! I know it's going to be a big change to 'rebrand' like this, but I already feel so much better about it. It just feels so much more authentic to me. Sorry if I seem kinda low-energy in this, I am excited trust me! These past couple weeks have been stressful and an emotional rollercoaster so I guess I'm not very good at hiding that 😂 I love you ALL and I'm so excited for this next chapter! HERE WE GOOOO.

I am so excited for you. I just hope you know you don’t have to up how many videos you put out a week just quality. I think you could do two videos. I know a KZbinr who only does once a week and it’s still one of my favourite channels. I think you will still be able to do this and support yourself. I hope you just hear my heart here because I know how hard you work and I just wanted to tell you that it’s possible to do it once to two times a week and still be successful. In my personal opinion I prefer that because it keeps me pumped for when you do post next. I adore you.

Congrats on going full time! For a "thrifty" video idea, you could do an "anti-haul". Go through your wardrobe and show us stuff that just didn't work for you. Do you donate? Sell online? Have a clothing swap? Burn it in a celebratory fire? Make costumes for Frodo?

You could do a Frodo series, where every two weeks you make a little short of Frodo’s life. It would be so cute and a really good way to flex that creative muscle. Another thing you could do is take us through your home makeover journey with vlogs or videos taking us through little projects, like painting or organizing your little decoratory doodads.

Agreed! I said the same thing a couple weeks ago. "The Adventures of Frodo" would be uplifting, enchanting, and best of all, low-cost! The boy wouldn't even ask his Mommy for a salary! Whatever you decide, Rachel, you will do well. Benjamin Franklin and Geoffrey Chaucer said it best: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Or, to quote me, "Every battle leaves a scar, but that's what makes you who you are." So you go, Girl! You do not go alone.

I would like to see vintage capsule wardrobe videos! You could pick 10 items from one decade and style those items in various outfits to show the versatility of vintage items. I think it would be a very creative way to use all of the clothes from your hauls and it would be fun to watch. Perhaps with some history of fashion thrown in. Very excited for this new change!

This would be amazing! I love the idea of creating characters in regular vintage clothing. Disney and vintage would work so well together and she's incredible at cosplay so she could incorporate that to it also! I have a similar shade of red hair so I love finding awesome red haired female characters and she could do a fantastic Merida (could incorporate some great location/story type shots too), Rosalind Lutece (Bioshock), Ginny Weasley, Rose (Titanic) and I would love to see a vintage/regular clothing Jean Grey.

Video ideas that I would love to see: -Living room tour! All your little Knick knacks and baubles and vintage items, where you found them, etc. -Blooper videos are always funny and fun. Lots of silly frodo shots to come from those I’m sure ;) -more hair style videos!! :) I loved watching you try to recreate those vintage styles, and you can teach us some more of your tricks too -I personally loved the cosplay videos. So if you have more of those up your sleeves, then do it! :) -I know you’re not really a cooking channel, but trying out vintage recipes could be fun and interesting! :) or even if you have a family recipe that’s been passed down to you, that’d be cool as well! Congratulations Rachel! You can be proud of you. And don't worry about people thinking that "this is not a real job". People think things like this for any kind of job. For example I'm a doctor in ethnomusicology and my job is to collect and research traditional music in Laos. Well many people think that it's not a real job and that I'm not living in the "real world". Why? Because I love my job! Because I don't wake up every morning thinking "OMG another day at work". Many persons think that a "real" job is a boring job, a job that makes you miserable, because you have to suffer for it, earn it. Well screw this! Many people don't have the choice and just get crappy jobs, and it's very sad. But if you have the choice, if you have the possibility to have a job that gives you a sense of fulfillment and makes you happy, go for it!

This is going to be a really weird comment on a video you wrote a post on almost 2 years ago, but I'm a current anthropology undergraduate student and I'm extremely interested in ethnomusicology and I was wondering where you did your PhD and where you are now? My initial grad school list has been turned a little upside down because a lot of schools aren't taking a cohort this semester
@mariepierre53373 жыл бұрын
@@smolpetitefox1095 I studies in Belgium, at the free University of Brussel (ULB). There was no ethnomusicology section, so I did a master in musicology, and then a second one in anthropology. Then I did a PhD in ethnomusicology about music in Laos. I now work as a researcher and curator in a small ethnology museum in Luang Prabang, the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre.

You could do makeup transformations recreating vintage icons you really like, perhaps talking a bit about them in the voiceover. Makeup transformations are usually well received on youtube, so they might get you a decent number of views, and it would be both entertaining and educational :)

Rachel, you’re going to be great. And even if it doesn’t work, you’ll be okay! So ideas for quick videos! 1) You could review things other than clothes, like tea, or books. The book idea wouldn’t cost you anything if you’ve got a library card. you can also have a nice time reading a book! 2) Do a favorite things video, like a favorite skirt of the week or month or a favorite type of food, really anything 3) Show us around your town? I think you live in Boston (or near there, don’t feel any need to say where you live), and that’s fascinating to me, personally, because I live on the west coast in California so I assume it’ll be different. Any fun places or historical landmarks would be pretty interesting! 3) 10 min of bad puns. Pick something different each week to make bad puns about. 4) you could talk about any weird theories or opinions you may have about stuff. Not editing cause that would take a while but just talk about, for example, why some movie is better than the book, etc

Congrats! I'm excited to see where your channel goes. I think the rebrand/diversifying your content is a great idea. I also think 3 videos a week is a LOT and you could risk burnout if you keep that pace, but one way around that might be more vlog-style content. I think since your house decor and surroundings and everything are within your aesthetic, you could do the more lifestyle-channel content. And the biggest turnoff for vlogs is that they can be really boring, which is usually an editing problem, and editing is your strong suit.
@thatswhatisaidCA5 жыл бұрын
To piggyback on to this, there are many full-timers who do one a week, but full of research and information. Depends on what kinda stuff you wanna do, so you do you, Rachel!
@katheriner105 жыл бұрын
Just agreeing that 3 a week seems way too many. Also, in regards to patreon, you can have a lot of success there if a have a smaller but engaged fanbase (which I think you do have). If you look at channels like Momo (kzbin.infovideos?flow=grid&sort=dd&view=0) her regular views are not crazy high, but she opened her patreon one week ago and is at almost at $1,400 a month. Would really really recommend you doing the same.

I just left a job for one that pays less because I would rather make less and love what I do than have more cash and be miserable or feel unfulfilled. The worst that can happen is that you find another job next year and have the piece of mind of knowing that you tried. You are a boss and anything can be a job. You got this! You really do!!! Go girl!!!!

+RachelMaksy, you are an intelligent, creative woman. You’ve got this! Create a schedule, tweak it until it suits you as a creator, and then hold yourself accountable to it. Maybe enlist a friend you trust to encourage and gently push whenever needed. Include some downtime for yourself or you will quickly burnout, and your viewers who love you will be collectively sad 😞 Not because your channel will suffer, but because we have a genuine concern for you. Stay authentic, stay true to you, and remember when things get crazy to cut yourself a break- even wonderful changes can cause some stress. Good luck to you! Congrats and good luck! You're gonna do great, I'm so excited to see more videos each week 😁 I think some fun series ideas would be if you created vintage versions of popular characters. Like vintage Disney princesses using things you already have in your closet. It would also be cool if you did more collabs with other vintage channels (and non vintage channels). Your penpal collab with Veronique was so much fun to watch! I personally think it would be cool to see more history related stuff but I know not everyone is into that. One of my other favorite KZbinrs, Loepsie, does a series where she recreates the looks of famous women in history while talking about their lives. Maybe you could do a vintage version of that? Anyways, we're going to love anything you come up with, best of luck!

Rachel, full truth. I’m mildly obsessed with you. I watch a Maksy vid almost every day. I think I could watch you put peanut butter on bread and I’d still hit the “like” button. I just quit my stable, safe, government job and it was the best thing I’ve done this year. I now am following my “scary” dreams and I love it. You’ll do amazing. Also, you need an “all that jazz” shirt and also one of Tommy’s face with the fairest of them all mirror saying “me.”

Yay!!! I’m so excited for all of this for you! A suggestion I was thinking of for your house stuff specifically: perhaps when doing the house tour stuff later on, make them a room a video? So that way you could fill in the video with the ideas you have for the room, how you like to decorate them, etc. you could also do a vlog video a week!

This is so cool! Since I only started watching your channel during 2020, I loved watching this video and learning more about your journey to going full-time on KZbin. Good for you, Rachel!! I absolutely love your videos as they are guaranteed to bring sunshine to even my gloomiest day. Keep up the good work!! 💗

I'm so proud that you're making such a big and exciting change! It's definitely scary, but I wish you the best of luck in your new venture! I can't wait to see what kinds of new things you'll bring to the table! I love your cosplay videos, btw. Don't stop doing them! Also, if you're going to be renovating your house (!!!! Omg congrats on closing on the house!!!) maybe a declutter series would be something cool to try?

As a chronic procrastinator and as someone who bites off more than they can chew just try doing 2 vids a week first and build up to 3. Because life will always throw stuff your way that distracts you. Once you get a handle on 2 a week move on to 3. Because when you fail.(that's not hate, it happens to the best of youtubers) your nonconfrontational side will beat you up for disappointing your audience. Just looking out for ya. Been watching you for the past 2 and a half years and I'm so excited to see what you do next!😁

Try starting a Patreon and/or selling more Frodo or Binks merch for more income! Or open an etsy vintage shop, so you can do thrift hauls and then sell them later! Just spit-balling some ideas, since KZbin has been getting increasingly wacky with their algorithms, notifications, and demonetizations. Best of luck, I know you'll be successful no matter what!

I’m not the best with keeping up with everything.. but as soon as I click on one of your videos I hit like before it gets to the intro. Im late to the party, but congrats on the house! Looking forward to those renovation videos (if we get to see that.) I’m still sticking to my idea on doing a tutorial on how you edit your own videos. 😉 I watch every single one of your videos (when I found you during my chemo treatments I immediately to the beginning. Those videos got me through five hours of treatments every two weeks 😂👌🏻) I even watch the videos I wouldn’t click on with other KZbinrs and I like them instantly too. I also comment on all of them too. Just my little support 🙃 I love how much of a sweet, old, passionate soul you are and how your originality and personality shines through every video! Girl, you got this and the pinup fam will always cheer you on! 💜

I enjoy anything you make it's all so aesthetically pleasing. My personal favorites just in general of youtube is hair videos, maybe you could go through eras of hairstyles maaaybe even up to the 80's? Also maybe a Harry Potter lookbook with items from your closet. I like Lookbooks more then hauls I like seeing the multiple uses of the same item.

I think some of the most important aspects are authentic content and stuff that's different from "the usual". If you look at channels that died like for example graveyardgirl you see that she's not really come up with new stuff on her channel, she just repeats what she's always done. On top of that, she hid the fact that she actually was a millionaire and pretended to still be middle class. One unique advantage that you have in the vintage niche though is that there's a high demand for "resource material" I feel, as in how to be authentically styled in vintage clothing etc. There is this aspect of teaching that not every "KZbin genre" has. I personally would love if you tried more hairstyles like in your "I Tries ti Recreate 1940's hairstyles", cause most of the tutorials on KZbin are victory rolls, high ponytails and the poodle. Trends on KZbin are always nice, but ultimately I think that people are subscribed to you because of your uniqueness. So if you want to make funny, edgy, silly, etc videos, people will love it and I think they'll like it a lot more than "just another tag." Best of luck to you xx
@maddwitch5 жыл бұрын
Doesn't graveyardgirl have millions of subs? I'm not saying her content isn't the same, but dead channel is a bit much. Also, who actually thought she was middle class? She makes videos in a closet bigger than some most people's bedrooms. Don't even get me started on that bathroom.
@paraxsoul5 жыл бұрын
@@maddwitch she does, but her views are dropping compared to what the channel used to be like. She loses a significant amount of subscribers every day, statistically speaking. I never thought much about how much money she made, but just look at how she used to portray herself. She even made a while apology video about it. I'm not trying to attack her, I was simply pointing out that she has not been very transparent and innovative, that's all. :)

I watch graveyardgirl sometimes...i knew she was rich! I had this feeling...cause how else would she be able to do whatever she wants whenever she wants...i still enjoy her...because she doesnt look fake or like every other girl on yt...buuuuut...i had a feeling she was hiding something...

So excited for you!!! You should be so proud Rachel!! You've done amazing in such a short time. First off- congratulations on closing on the house!! I literally squealed when you announced that and I know it's been a trying process. Now, as for some different content ideas: showing us your renovations as you go through the house and make it your own would be really exciting and could be a vlog style series so it's easier to edit and you're already going to be doing the renovations anyway so it's a built in project. More Frodo- honestly I specifically go back to your videos when I'm having a hard day because you are such a bright happy light and your videos always have me laughing and Frodo and his little subtitles are a big part of that too. Someone mentioned in another comment to do little sketches on Frodo's week or something and I think that would be so fun. I think your cosplay stuff is amazing and really accessible for beginners and I appreciate that so much so I'll always be here for it. I don't know how hard it is for you to collab with other KZbinrs since you're in Chicago but it would be fun to see you do projects with other KZbinrs in cosplay or vintage or style videos. The colabs/vlogs you did in Salem and California were really fun to watch. Anything you put out is sure to be amazing because of your positive and honest spirit - you are the reason we watch the videos. You're going to do great!! 💜💜

I would love to see your home renovations. You could show us your plans for every room - if I recall correctly every one of them is/will have a theme, how you slowly implement your plan, which decor items you already have work for that, what are you looking for (a virtual thrift haul if you wish). Also your take on seasonal DIYs (I’m thinking something along the lines of ‘how would xxx - insert character- decorate for Christmas’ and see what you suggest. No need to buy, just diy). Frodo antics, I’d love to see collections of those, themed maybe? Good luck! Gonna love your channel either way you take it!

Yayayayyayay! I am so so excited for you ! Between the house, leaving your job and doing KZbin full time... plus A FLUFFIN MERCH STORE?! Aaaahhhh! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to see where this goes. I'm proud of you for taking a risk on yourself and doing something that makes you happy! I work for myself and it is super hard, challenging and stressful, but even on my most stressful days, I would rather work for myself than to ever sacrifice my creativity and my soul for someone else again. You've got this and you are completely supported by us! Also, for ideas for your channel, alone with the cosplay, vintage, vlog, etc, maybe you could include a home reno part? Especially since people ask about it all the time, it would be a way for everyone to feel included? Also, maybe videos of you trying to cook vintage recipes or sew vintage patterns to tie into the diy and cosplay type stuff? Either way, I am so excited for you! Here's to a new journey! 🎉

Wishing you good luck with taking on KZbin full time! I’m sure it will work out great, and don’t let yourself feel too pressured to have to go intense full-time KZbinr mode. If you miss a video deadline or don’t manage to meet your weekly video ‘quota’ we don’t mind, and we understand some videos take longer than others. We’re just happy to watch your content, no matter how much of it we get! Take your time and be kind to yourself, you’re going to do amazing

Darling, this is a new age, we should change with it,, no one likes drastic change but your doing the right thing. Many years ago my husband left a good job to learn a trade and start his own business, didn’t make a lot while learning , but it’s been 35 years and his business is still thriving and we make a good living, because he took a chance. I know you will do great, you have it in you. I’m thrilled🦋 Don’t worry what your job you had thinks, they want to make money and I’m sure you are an asset to them, but can’t do life for someone else all the time. Be confident💖 I’m excited🌈🌈🌈 It’s all good🌈

This is so exciting! I’m sure you’ve already thought about it also throw in that monthly (or whatever) favorites are also fun and presumably don’t require a lot of prep. It might be a good way to intro video games into your channel too. I’m also a gamer and am turned off by a lot of more gaming centric media (just not my vibe.) I bet your style would be a lot more fun for me :D best of luck!

I'm so excited for you in your new endeavours!! When I stumbled across your channel I was absolutely thrilled when I found out you did BOTH vintage fashion and were also a cosplayer, because as someone who also does both (as a hobby, not a content creator) I always feel pressured to choose. I feel like my cosplay friends think my vintage hobby is pretentious, and I don't really have many vintage enthusiast friends because it can sometimes be hard to connect to other people when I'm worried about being judged for my cosplay hobby. So seeing someone who does BOTH and does amazingly at them is just so nice to see, and I love living vicariously through your excellent work. Keep on keeping on, and I'm excited to see what you do next
