Goodbye to Uber my trusted friend...

All good things come to an end, and my time with Uber has come to a close.
Rates are now too low to continue with Uber and it's time to move on. I've noticed some pretty poor rates coming out over the last couple of weeks, but today was the final straw.
A trip from Student Village in Newport to the Treforest Campas paid barely £1.05 a mile. Totally unacceptable. And that rate was just the job rate from pick to drop. The last time I worked for £1.05 a mile was in the 1980s - over 40 years ago.
It's time to move on.
I will still be doing videos but they will be covering airport transfers, Bolt and my own personal jobs. There will be no more Uber ride-along.
Until Uber brings in a minimum mileage rate of £1.35 a mile I'll not be wasting my time with them.

Ubers taken all the work, increased fares for customers, reduced driver pay and increased their own commission to get what they can, i remember getting £2 a mile at a local firm, Some years ago, too saturated, just working for an employer at minimum wage + holiday pay etc pays more than private hire when u factor in the hours u have to put in. rant over😢

True, minimum wage jobs pay better than Uber now. And if minimum wage goes up to £15 next April it will be much better pay. The only benefit with Uber now is flexibility, it's definitely not the pay.

I think the EV switchover and the ridiculous costs might be the catylyst for Uber , I think they are on course to lose a lot of drivers , you cant survive with a 50k car and earn less than peanuts

Uber fares are expensive because of VAT- local taxis don't hav 2 charge it so fares are 20% less- I think it's why driver pay is low

Mate £1:35 no good either I charge £2:00 and £3:25 the first mile,and I still get work well done for leaving uber.

1.35 is my minimum contract rate for long distance over 100. I tend to stick to Bristol airport runs and rates tend to be around £1.50 to £1.70. my own work is more, sub co tract work tends to be lower.

yeah, the £1.35 a mile is for the subcontract airport transfers over 150 mile in distance eg to heathrow or gatwick. I tend to stick to Bristol airport work which tends to pay about £1.50 a mile sub-contract. My own price for over 150 miles is £1.75 and £1.95 under. But even OTS short distance work pays pretty good. I've done Newport Railway Station to Blackwood with uber and get about £19 for the fare, there's a regular ots job from the station to just round the corner in blackwood pays £31.00. Uber is really pushing drivers rates further down and also pulling back on Uber pro rewards. It's time to move on from Uber.

I have no interest in working 16 hours a day and if he turned up to pick me up I'd refuse to get into his car. It's a big arguement for introducing tachographs into private hire vehicles and legally limiting working hours to 10 in a 24 hour period like hgv and bus drivers.
