Henry and Karen's daughters when they were little and going to the prison with Karen were Lorraine Bracco's real life daughters. One of them is Stella Keitel, whose father is Harvey Keitel. The prosecutor who was offering Henry and Karen the witness protection deal was the same prosecutor who offered that deal to Henry Hill in real life, playing himself in the movie.

In the book Wiseguy "goodfellas book" they go a little further and talk about the Boston College Basketball point shaving scheme they had going on with a few players, and the prosecutor had gone to the same college at the same time on the same team and knew nothing about it. He came across the table at Henry almost hitting him in disbelief. Wish they had included that in the film but probably would of made the movie over 3 hours long

When Ray passed a couple weeks ago it hit me really really hard and I'm afraid I made it personal: when we were young, it was mine and my sister's favorite movie; we used to quote it at each other all the time. "Hmm, an aristocrat!" "To-DAY. To-DAY. To-DAY." "Get your shinebox!" Paid a little visit to her grave, got a sixer of Bud, and drank it all while re-watching this movie for the 100th time. RIP Ray Liotta. And A.W., too.

Two observations: 1. Jay will call at least one character a "bitch" in every reaction. 2. Jay said, "My mom thought that the more people who die in a movie, the better it is. But, I wasn't cut from that cloth." Yet, Jay spends a lot of this movie saying, "He should kill him" and "I'd take him out." So, maybe he got at least a PIECE of that cloth? Haha

The cat I learned to cook from (I'm a chef) owned a joint in NOLA that some of these actual guys ate at regularly back in the late 70's. He returned it the next day and got a Caddy.

Fun fact: There's a lot of actors from Goodfellas that would later show up in the hit TV series The Sopranos. The least-recognized guest stars, with a surprisingly high amount of lines devoted to them considering that they do not actually exist, are the two imaginary black guys from 7:00 in this video. They finally appear onscreen in the last scene of The Sopranos, despite being fictional in-universe.

"Why they turning that lady into a Smurf?" I woke up the rest of the house because I was howling with laughter when I heard that! Great video again, JL! Goodfellas is a phenomenal film, and I laugh a lot at it,. However, watching along with you I realized why it's been awhile since I've seen it: for me the film. A lot of relatives on my mother's side of the family lived in Nassau County just across the line from Queens, where a lot of this film was set, at approximately the same time as the events in the film. They had the same houses, furniture, accents, and yes, more than a few hostess parties that my mom dragged us kids to. (Shudder) Terrible food, too. I remember one of my mom's cousins used to be so proud of her baked tuna casserole with marshmallows in it. (Shudder again) Simply awful. Also at the same time, much further east on Long Island where my family lived, my dad was a cop assigned to an area lousy with gangsters, and gangster-wannabes, who had moved out from New York City because they thought it would be easier to do what they did and not get caught. My dad would tell me stories when I was growing up, and he described people just like all the guys you see in this film. Fast forward several years and I'm now going to high school in the very same area: the only Irish kid in a school that was 99.9% Italian. And I got grief from dozens of kids when word got out that my dad had been a cop in the area. These kids were all whining or complaining about how my dad locked up their dads/uncles/brothers/grandfathers. A couple even got stupid and tried to get revenge. My dad tell me even more stories, and provide more detail, as I got older because he figured I was old enough to understand. After he passed away I found even more about what he dealt with in his old cases files, with some details that actually chilled me. So yeah, gangsters can be entertaining in their way. But it's good to keep in mind why they are actually criminals. Other than that, shout out to Drogo and Romulus! You're one lucky guy to have co-pilots like them, JL! And keep up the good work!

@@EOMReacts Cool history fact the FBI agent interrogating him near the end was the real life Agent the interrogated the real life Henry Hill. Also Karen and Paulie were having an affair and the reason he tried whacking off Karen was because he tried having his way with her when she was saying no. Also hate to tell you this, but Henry hill was kicked out of witness because he kept getting into trouble and eventually he became more trouble than he was worth. So ever since than the only way he can make any real money was be constatly reliving his life in the Mafia, so it's no surprise he became an alcholic. Also the reason they had such priviliege in jail was because they BRIBED Guards to look the other way and get such nice things. BUT they had to pay almost $2000 a month and they couldn't earn it from the outside, and that's when Henry started dealing.

Not so fun fact about this movie, Fat Andy (Louis Eppolito) in the scene where they're introducing everyone was an NYPD detective. He and his partner Steve Caracappa did hits for the mob. They were caught years later when Eppolito wrote a book about his life called Mafia Cop and the mother of Jimmy Hydell one of his victims picked it up, read it, and took it to the police. Also, Anthony Casso underboss of the Lucchese Family did a news interview from jail and named both of them as cops on their payroll.

My grandpa was tied in with the mob and my dad grew his business (used car dealership) upon what he learned from his dad. Somewhat shady but not sinister. The reason for the comment is due to your comment on your reaction to Henry’s closet. My dad had a literal walk in closet to himself with suits. He learned this from his dad (my grandpa) and from mob movies like this and The Godfather etc.

The old comic telling the dad jokes was the late great Henny Youngman. He was an old school Catskill comedian who actually worked in clubs like that back in the day.

Henry would later be kicked out of witness protection, they found out he had started selling drugs again. As he couldn't get a job due to his past, he ended up writing the book the movie's based off and doing speaking engagements about his time in the Mafia. He died in 2012 from complications involving heart disease.

20:07 "Did Tommy ever tell you of my painting?", That was the only scripted line in that scene, everything else was all improvised by the actors. Also shout out to Tommy's mother, which in actuality is Martin Scorsese's (the Movie director) mother, Catherine. And Vinnie the cook at 27:39 is Charles Scorsese, his father. His parents were the only people he knew that knew how to tie gangster tie knots correctly. They were also usually on set helping out with wardrobe so since they already spent so much time on set, he figured why not have them in the movie too. And of course shout out to Ray Liotta! His role as Henry Hill was so captivating that even the REAL Henry Hill would eventually meet Ray and praise him by saying "Thanks for not making me look like a scumbag." Despite all the horrible things he did in real life is in the movie. RIP Ray Liotta

Cape Fear, Casino, The Wolf of Wall Street are ones i've seen i can recommend. i remember thinking Bringing Out the Dead was good but i feel like it was not a happy movie. same with Taxi Driver you will hear it's a GOAT movie but it's not happy. Scorsese is like Kubrick, master filmmaker but some of his movies will leave you shook. i have heard The Departed is very good but i haven't seen it yet. Shutter Island is a good thriller/mystery. there's more on his film list on wikipedia that i know are good i just can't give an opinion.

Great reaction again, JL! If you’re interested in seeing more Scorsese films (and I would hope you are; he’s one of our best filmmakers), I’d recommend, first, to complement this film, his other big mob movie, CASINO (1995), which again stars Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci, as well as Sharon Stone, James Woods, Kevin Pollak, Don Rickles, and a great ensemble cast. That and GOODFELLAS are two of Scorsese’s most popular films, and certainly among his best. I’d also recommend MEAN STREETS (1973), TAXI DRIVER (1976), RAGING BULL (1980), THE KING OF COMEDY (1982), THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993), GANGS OF NEW YORK (2002), THE AVIATOR (2004), THE DEPARTED (2006), HUGO (2011), THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013), and SILENCE (2016). Some of these are very raw and gritty and crime-related, others are not. Some people like to pigeonhole Scorsese as an urban filmmaker who only does movies about the Mafia or Italian Americans in some way or “the streets,” but he’s excelled in all kinds of film genres and styles. He’s really a filmmaker you want to do a deep dive on and check out all his films, really.

Some little side info for the hell of it. When Henry Hill was on Howard Stern once, the sister of "spider" called in and berated him over the fact that they never found his body in the club where Henry had said they buried it. He said they must've moved it after he left the mob. They never found his body and the sister was very angry that Henry was now making a living off selling his life story to hollywood. For one thing the movie glorifies his life a ton and makes him look like a big shot gangster, when in reality he was pretty much a nobody. As for Joe Pesci, he had done a lot of lighter movies before Home Alone, he can play a goofball like on Lethal Weapon etc.
