If you go into indie development for profit, you're doing it wrong. For every Scott Cawthorn there's 10000 developers who didn't make a dime. You have to make games you want to make because you like making them. With passion comes quality and with quality, you should start getting sales eventually.

I agree you have to make games you like (unless youre making projects to learn from etc) but idk I feel like they're plenty of passionate people who make games they like or would want to play but sometimes they're super niche or the developer isn't good at a certain aspect and they make a game that they do not know how to market or even have time to market and their job ends up coming first and they can't create their dream game...There's so many reasons why a game might not be selling and that could be a long video in it's self.

Great Video! One thing though, if You're planning to release on a console (and can cover the porting costs and time), try and combine this with your game's full PC release at the same time: * You'll get more visibility from the credibility * You'll save costs from focussing on a single marketing campaign.

I feel like both will be beneficial to know for doing other projects beside games. But also I think my issue with unity is that there is tutorials for everything so I go and watch a tut. and dont really grasp everything that I watch. So I am hoping that with Godot it will push me further to try and figure it out myself and be able to retain the information. Thank you for the great content.

@Goodgis Yes, there are some people that got particularly lucky or "lucky" quickly. Some guys are also very intense with creating and get better results than most people, but in general there is no magic pill ;-) It is actually good that bigger gamedev youtubers like you cover that topic from time to time to get things more real for new people. I recently watched a video when a guy with a several years of AAA gamedev barely covered Steam's cost after few months, already having some audience.
