Yes, this qualifies as a round loom since it’s worked in the round. I haven’t tested on another gauge but you could try using on the 24 peg 5/8 loom with 2 strands or maybe 3 strands if it’s too loose. The cast on should still work and you will need to bind off only half the stitches when getting to the opening instead of 16, bind off 12. Then cast on again.
