What’s the point of pulling a vacuum if u break the vacuum with air and not refrigerant ?

The vacuum was never broken by air since he had re-installed the valve core in a fully sealed system.

Agreed. Need to add some gas to break vacuum. Then install ports to keep the non condensables from getting in

@@rmalanis13 No, the valve cores were removed in the first place to evacuate the system. Then after the vacuum pull they were reinstalled since they are needed for normal operation. They were installed with a vacuum still in the system no gas. Then after when you fill it with gas the vacuum rushes the freon inside the system since it wants pull it in versus the pressure of the tank pushing it in.

To remove as much moisture as possible from the system. You close off your manifold to prevent any more air into the system after a vacuum

What’s the best was to reintroduce the refrigerant? I was told to add charge first and then add the schraders. I’m not sure if it really makes a difference.

I wonder about the step the Schroeder cores were reinstalled. The system was under vacuum and the core tool has small gaps to let you slide the cores back and forth when reinserting. At this intense vacuum it should suck in air and moisture via that gap into the system. I believe it’s better to add refrigerant after the vacuum and then reinstall the cores. The positive pressure will only leak a de minimis amount outward. I think this suggested method will prevent moisture to become acid and ruin the compressor. Maybe there’s no way around it as replacing the hoses from vacuum to the refrigerant hoses may still leave an inch of headspace of air inside the core tools. I just don’t know how to remove that air pocket.

So, what was the purpose of introducing Nitrogen into the low side service port while brazing in the Compressor? Did you actually think the nitrogen would actually flow backwards through the Compressor or be able to overcome the resistance of the valves in the Compressor? That step was worthless and a waste of nitrogen as it would flow in the low side port, thru the evaporator and out the high side port.

Plenty of extra copper slack Goodman gives you to braze in the new compressor almost like they know it won’t last

Replaced a compressor today. Unsure what is wrong. Old compressor was grounded - continuous with the chassis. New compressor is fine, but the breaker keeps tripping when the compressor attempts to kick on. Tried replacing the capacitor, the breaker, and the pigtails. New compressor has same rating as old. Should I try a hard start? My manager will have my nuts if I have to buy another.

you have an operating voltage(208,220,240) issue. check for bad wiring

Turns out it was an install error. My tech didn't blow out the lines with nitrogen. We blew out about 4 big pieces of shrapnel from the suction line. New comp must have sucked one in and died.@@mattpacktree92

This install will leak and cause high pressures because of oxygen condensables. He didn't take any care to protect the filter drier when brazing, to smacking the compressor to seat the plug, not fluxing the copper before brazing, not purging the gas before releasing it into the system. I'm a 30 year HVAC tech and I wouldn't recommend this. Be careful who you watch on KZbin. I would recommend AC Service Tech, not this guy.
