I have a Goodman 90+. Once when I was away it would start up, but then shut down. My wife called someone, but he couldn’t see anything wrong. I got home and happened to be in the cellar when it tried to start. I heard gurgling in the exhaust pipe. It had been very cold and condensation built up in it. Since vacuuming out the water, it has run well since.

Agree you have a clog need to to cleaned, water may be backing up water in the inducer motor causing that noise ,could have cooked the inducer motor if left too long, had to happen to me several times
@tytig944 жыл бұрын
I would also check the pitch on the exhaust PVC pipe, plus what others have mentioned (drain trap). If the exhaust isn't pitched back towards the furnace it will not drain the condensate properly and cause the gurgling you speak of.
@DocNo274 жыл бұрын
I have this exact same furnace. Installers didn't move the drain tube from the horizontal install position to the vertical install position. Until I did that, it filled up exactly as you describe. Get the install manual, check the location of the drain tube and I'll wager it's in the wrong port. Lazy installers... EDIT: after watching Steve inside that thing it wasn't only the drain lines that were wrong but the tube fore the pressure switch for it to sense if the exhaust gas fan is running as well. They had it in the wrong port and the sensor would falsely indicate the exhaust gas fan wasn't running. Had two different companies called out two different times - both cleaned the drain tubes but unsurprisingly the problem came back until I got out the install manual and started double checking all the connections - that's how I found out it came from the factory rigged for horizontal install but mine is installed vertically.

I read a few comments about the blower fan motor making excessive noise. That does not sound like the main blower motor to me. It sounds like the vent purge fan motor that closes all of the safety vacuum switches as long as the flue exhaust vent is not obstructed. I never liked those high efficiency furnaces like the one featured in this video. I remember when Goodman first came out with them. They had a problem with the secondary heat exhanger's condensation drainage system backing up to the point that it would not allow the vacuum switches to be closed by the induced draft pressure created by the purge fan whenever it cycled on. Goodman had to manufacture and then distribute to all its parts houses a retrofit kit to correct the problem because its new high efficiency furnaces, at that time, were going down all over the country. This was around seventeen years ago or so. It created nuissance call backs for technicians on all the new installations of this partucular furnace. After I called the factory a few times and told them about the drainage issue with the flue gas condensate coming from the secondary heat exchanger, not long after that, one of the Goodman factory guys I called on the phone told me that technicians from all over the country were calling in with the same complaint as mine, nuidsance call backs on new installations of the Goodman high efficiency furnace. When Goodman got the retrofit kit out to their distributors, I installed it and it worked. I was glad just to be done with the frequent call backs. That experience left a sour taste in my mouth for high efficiency furnaces. This all happened back in the day when Goodman was still an independent entity based out of Texas and had not yet been bought out. I was installung Goodman split systens alot. That is the only problem I have ever had with a new Goodman product.

It's called the inducer blower motor
@Artisan.HVACR14 жыл бұрын
David Scott, when I came through HVACR trade school and graduated back in the mid 1990s, that component was called the flue vent pipe purge fan or just purge fan for short because it purged out the flue to set it up at a negative pressure. I certainly understand why the new school may call it an inducer fan because on the induced (suction) draft side of the fan there is a negative pressure. You remind me of when I was the young aporentice in the field and the old veterans ready for retirement had different terminology for what us younger guys were learning in school. After talking with them long enough, we all understood each other even though some of our words were diffetent. I guess now I am the old veteran.
@davidscott39394 жыл бұрын
I graduated from Coyne College in 2004 for H.V.A.C /R and I have 16 years "field experience" in heating and air
@Artisan.HVACR14 жыл бұрын
David Scott, I have 26 years of field experience in the trade, mostly in the light and heavy commercial applications as well as on industrial applications, but I cut my teeth on residential applications before moving up. I also am and have been a state licensed HVAC/R contractor for over twenty years. I have seen enough to know that what I know is SMALL compared to all there is to know in this trade. I have installed, repaired, and done maintenance on everything from window units to rooftop self-contained and split systems to centrifugal chillers and their associated pumps plus coolimg towers to commercial refrigeration. Yet, still there is so much I can learn because this trade is so vast. That has kept me humble enough to NOT try to correct someone who uses terminology from an earlier era than my own. Back when I was the junior technician, I heard the older guys terminology, but I never called them out to correct them. I had respect for those older guys because I knew they were way more knowledgeable than I was from their many years of experience in the field and they could run circles around me with their old school ways. Plus, many of them were combat veterans from the Korean War and the younger ones were the Vietnam War Veterans. Both generations were senior to me by many years. The World War Two guys had already retired like five plus years earlier. Those old guys could literally spit on a running compressor and tell from their spit whether or not the oil in the compressor crankcase was in good condition or not. I mean that literallly. They did not need an oil analysis test kit. The technicians in the field now who are in their mid forties and older were the last generation those old guys taught. I followed in their footsteps as a military veteran from the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s and as a young student in the HVAC/R skilled trade. They were my journeymen. I was their apprentice. I had to learn the old school way of the trade and the new school way at the same time. The CFC known as R-12 was still in very wide use as were all CFC refrigerants at that time. Standing pilots, floor furnaces, thermocouples, thermopiles and so much that has long been obsolete and no longer even manufactured was still out in the field in larger quanities than all the parts, units, and systems that have replaced them and are now the majority out in the field. My generation had to be skilled in all the old ways and equipment as well as skilled in the new ways and new equipment technology that was just coming out back in my early days in the trade. All that technology that was new in the HVAC/R trade whwn I was in my early days as a technician is now the common and the norm. I was just one of many technicians from across the USA that helped Goodman work out the bugs in their early generation high efficiency furnaces. That story was included in my commentary that you originally responded to. Well, that's it for this "book". I'm out.

Any problems there, and it wouldn't run. It also needed a board once in its life, along with a new fan motor.

Condensate collector leaking. They all do on the Goodmans I've seen. The condensate runs down and corrodes the hell out of the front inside of the furnace - takes out the high limit on downdrafts. I take them off, deburr the rough crappy plastic, dry thoroughly and silicone them before reassembly. And be careful with those front covers. Goodman doesn't deburr the edges at all, and they're sharp as hell. I've cut myself with them a couple times.

Until the pressure switches prove the combustion fan is running the ignition sequence is interrupted, some burners go to lockout some just continue to run the fan; no signal no ignition.

When it pays off to know order of operation, start checking things off as they happen. Then u can usually find your problem. If not, then some boards have a way to chk last error code. Do that, if still nothing. Start checking your wires, wire harnesses, spade clips. Your tstat.

Amana is good, the newer goodmans are nice. In fact they're the first hvac company to introduce bluetooth control boards as of now. Kinda nice, b4 I even walk into customers house I link my phone to the board and I know what's wrong with that furnace b4 I step foot in the house.

Goodman likes to put their pressure switches on the neutral side of the gas valve. I was always taught in school to never switch a neutral.

I have a goodman furnace. Igniter comes on, poof of flame and out it goes. No led codes. Steady red led. I have checked every youtube video and I cant figure out what it is. It seems like its not getting enough gas

clean the flame sensor . with a green scotch brite pad and reinstall it .. thats most likely your problem .

@@stevenlavimoniere its not lighting enough to make it to the sensor. Its like a poofball of fire and out. But I will still try it. Thank you

Dual vacuum switches? What's that about? I have a Maytag (Nortek) 80+ gas forced air unit. Had one vacuum switch & it was bad. I'm no expert but the flashing LED code was 'vacuum not made' or something. I could hear it click but the contacts were bad apparently (according to bench test with an ohm meter). Ordered a new one, exact replacement (normally open, 0.65"WC or something), installed, has been working fine for years now. Also the little rubber hose was cracked, but that wasn't the only problem, since when it clicked it didn't make contact. Maybe the inadequate force due to the crack in the hose made it click 'half way' and, over time, that burned the contacts out.

Dual is usually high speed and low speed. They will have 2 different values.

This is a single stage unit so there are two pressure switches for safety. It makes the inducer prove pressure twice before hot surface with kick on
@AllTattedUp134 жыл бұрын
Some of the newer ones have 3 and some lennox units have 4 press sw lol. One is for flu other is for 2nd heat exchanger. Cause if either of those is blocked..u dont want ur heat starting up, unless u wanna take a dirt nap.

Alot of newer high efficiency furnaces are 2 stage furnaces. (High & low) Hints the 4 pressure switches. Two for each stage

Who still installs single stage these days? I couldn't tell u the last time I installed a single stage.🤷♂️🤷♂️
