Not sure how this Goodman Package Unit has been here all this time and nobody has caught this issue, because it seems like a major one. Hopefully we can get them going soon with the proper repairs needed.

You got a ductulator? Great tool. Easy to use. 3 ton = 1200cfm. 1200 cfm = 17” round@800fpm. 800fpm is quiet return. 12x20 rectangle will be required for same as 17” round. 16” give you about 875 fpm. Nice vid. Keep it up.

If you think it’s an airflow issue, remove that thick filter and put in a fiberglass filter. Problem get better? 350- 400 cfm/ ton, 150-200 sq in filter/ ton

That filter was not that thick. Regular Merv 8 pleated filter. Return size is the issue. Changing the filter to a fiberglass to get more airflow is just band-aiding the issue.

I was taught this equation in school years ago. So you have a 20x20 filter and each cfm is 200. So you 20x20=400 then you divide by 200cfm. So 20x20=400÷200= 2 ton system

Yes it's a good equation. Just remember it works for the grilles on the wall. Cause sometimes airhandlers or furnace sit on filter bases or horizontal and that's only one size. So measure the grille where the return is in the house. I've had to cut bigger just to get the right size grille .

That's not a bad way to think about it. I was always told you can never have too big of a return but I'll definitely say your equation seems legit. I'll try it out
@sofalvr
@sofalvr 3 ай бұрын
You are correct in your assumptions on return size if this was a brand new install however you have to ask yourself how long has it been running like that and did it ever work?. Your job is to get it back to operational with a recommendation of design changes. Last thing you want is for customer to spend a whole lot of money only to have the same problem. You didn't look at the electronics at all for something that would make the compressor go on and off in the middle of a cycle. You're gonna be a really great tech someday so try and avoid tunnel vision. I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just trying to help you get better.

So what made you think to clean the condenser if your head pressure wasnt high?
@AB_HVAC
@AB_HVAC 3 ай бұрын
I was running 470 before cleaning it and after cleaning it dropped to 430. What initially made me wanna clean it was the neae 20° split I had over it. Was always told R410 condenser splits should be 10-15

Rheem techs were just gassing her up telling her she was low. When she rold me that i just cut the unit off and could hear the hissing coming from the body of the valve probably shook it and wore it out over its 15 years

I have a question. How do check your Delta T on a returnless system? I have a double wide that doesnt have a return. How would I go about checking that?
@MetalDetectingwithCZkidd

So the system is 100% outside air return?
@AB_HVAC
@AB_HVAC 3 ай бұрын
Not necessarily outside, it's just open up to the room. Pretty much it's just sucking in as much air as possible and most people don't know where to put filters on them, so I just put the cover on them put a temp probe there and then I checked Thea vent close to the middle of the home

Wait until you get heat exhaustion or heat stroke and spend a couple days in the hospital and just give it. I've had both a couple of times and that's why I don't let any of my employees spend much time at that temperature. Most customers understand and some of course don't care if you die, as long as they are cool. Do what you want.

@@AB_HVAC One of the things is when air we breathe gets hot it expands and when it does the density of the air is less and that means the less oxygen you have to breathe. Just be careful when you stop sweating or start to feel cold when you should be feeling hot that's the time your starting to get in trouble.

3 ton needs 1200 cfm. a 16" duct will move about 550 to 700 cfm a 14" duct will move about 430 to 530 cfm I would say you have air flow issues for sur.
