@@rylout1786 in the video Rhett mentioned that Sean was abused or mistreated in some way before they adopted him (Sean is 2), which is the cause of his anxiety, but i’ve heard it’s also common in some breeds of dogs to be more prone to anxiety, so 🤷‍♂️

@@ColFlustered when dogs show the whites of their eyes! they usually only do that when very stressed, often before biting as their last resort to say “please stop”. definitely recommend looking into do body language may save you from a bite some day :)

In the rescue-world we have a "Rule of Three": 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to feel fully at home. So Sean has 2 more months for more improvement for y'all to see.

As a groomer, their understanding of his grooming process is amazing and so refreshing. Understanding his matting and being shaved, needing to adjust, and maybe being a little traumatized by the grooming process after a severely matted shave down and needing positive grooming training. Amazing. Love to see it ❤

Sean is just like my dog Qtip- he fell asleep standing and would let us touch him for almost a week. I slept on the tile floor with him for the whole week until he let me touch him. He is the best thing that ever happened to me! ❤❤❤

I had such a similar experience with our second dog, we thought he hated us for a few days. He still gets nervous when we pet him 5+ years later but he is the sweetest most loving puppy. This story was like hearing our story played back 🤣

He's so cute! I have an adopted doggo that was abused and is an angry boi with toenail clipping, too. Positive reinforcement has done wonders for him. I'm excited for Shawn to begin to feel more secure and confident in his new home. however, it still takes 4 vet techs to cut my spicy boi's toenails (one to hold him so he can't bite, two to clip, one to clean up the nervous pooping). I highly recommend positive reinforcement and positive association with paw touching and trimming to try to eventually be able to trim the toenails yourself and/or make it easier for the vet techs.

I agree. I adopted an anxious cat and I already had a very bold and confident cat at home. The anxious cat definitely learned from the other one and now he's much more secure and brave now. They really do teach each other just by being around each other.

The difference between hair and fur is that dogs with hair don't have a undercoat and don't shed as much. The kind of hair he has looks like it matts easily. The short cut was necessary if he was badly matted.

Hair is one strand per follicle. Fur is multiple strands per follicle, usually 5 to 7. :)

When we got my dog he was a puppy and I was pregnant. He was very shaky and nervous but connected with me specifically and he and I still cuddle all these 4 years later.

That was a heavily matted/pelted dog shave down for sure, you don't take a dog that short unless you have to. Most salons don't ban a dog just for a bite, it's usually when they can't do the nails WITHOUT getting bit. Like, when the dog is struggling so intensely they think he'll hurt himself, they can't get a muzzle on, he bites through the muzzle, or two people can't keep him still enough to get the nails done. If he'll let you, practicing playing with his feet at home with treats and praise, then graduating to pinching his nails, can help with that.
