In terms of your unheated shop situation, in the business shop I use we've got installed these infrared tube heaters, which have been the absolute best thing ever. Complete overkill for the size of your shop, but perhaps something that could be very similar but appropriately sized might be getting a couple of strip food warmers to hang above you from the celling. Aside from just heating the shop, there's also some pretty good utility uses which is the main reason I have experience with them. I use mine somewhat frequently for a drying/curing lamp. I pull it out sometimes for keeping paint warm enough to dry in the winter, but I'll use it frequently when working with polyester resin, and occasionally when working with epoxy resins. The infrared heat is nice for being able to keep your project nice and warm without having to heat up all of the air and surfaces in the whole shop. Also, I wanted to bring up Signal Snowboards Every Third Thursday youtube series. I expect you're probably familiar, but I did want to bring it up just in case. Lots of experimental snowboard builds, sometimes just for lulz, but often times trying things that are a real challenge and you get to see some of the trial and error and other problem solving in action from people that have quite a lot of experience. The Snowboard Build is looking really good. Probably had exercise some discipline to put the board down and finish this weeks video instead of just finishing this board and riding it.

Yeah, the every third thursday series is rad. It used to be longer format on a different platform, but I think it got caught up in some licensing stuff when they tried moving it to youtube. That's just speculation. I've got a plan to build out, insulate, and heat a shop space I'm just waiting on funds, time, and the ability to get materials up my icy dirt road. And you're 100% right about putting the board down to edit the video. It's done now though! Just needs an edge grind and a wax

Good work! I am in the middle of making a board too. You give me inspiration. I am going to try aligning my base and core by super parts of the edge to the aluminum sheet and cutting notches in the sides of my core to align to small blocks also super glued to the aluminum ahead of time.

The pinstripe was a perfect solution to a frustrating problem. Is there a reason not to wet out the bottom side of the topsheat?

No reason in particular. Walnut is a really porous wood and that top layer of glass was soaking wet with resin so I figured the epoxy would get into it fine. It would probably be safer to wet out both sides

100%. I've done layups before but nothing this stressful. I think its the requirement that everything line up correctly, even if you did the whole layup right things can still get misaligned and ruin the outcome

Good eye! They did at the very nose and tail of the board. It's kind of a long story, I actually had to pour the sidewalls twice because they didn't cure correctly the first time around. I did my best to clean out the channels but it was difficult at the nose and tail which is why I think they separated there. However, I'm not worried about it. There is so much resin in and around the sidewalls where they separated, and there's more glass than core at that point in the board. I'm sure it will be fine at least for a while. You should be able to pour your urethane the same way I did and if the cure goes well I don't think you'll run into the same problem.

I'm so happy the lay up worked. I love the walnut top sheet. Nice save with the base sheet as well. I'm curious how that happened. just a brain fart? math error when making the sidewall channels?

I didn't leave myself much room for error with the channels and forgot about the small amount of width that the edges would add. No big deal, I managed to work around it, next time I can just route a wider channel with a different bit

Congrats, just to let you know with this videos now I want to build once again snowboards, I just degigned the files and I will send it to a friend of mine that have a wakeboard company to cnc milled the core, there is a better and safer way to fix the base and the core in the mould, you simply need to cut the base and the core with a notch something like this _____/\______ and fix on the mould with screws a negative notch (you can do it with base material or whatever else you have on site), in this way you will be totally sure that core and base will be centered in the mould. You can think about vacuum to avoid bubbles on the topsheet...

The top at that point would be fiberglass and resin, which you could do but it would have a short lifespan. Epoxy resin is UV sensitive and degrades in sunlight over time and a big part of what the topsheet does is protect the resin from the sun

Hi Chris I pressed my snowboard and I was ready to wax it but there was super glue still on the base material since I glued the metal edges. Did you encounter the same problem? I tried wiping it down with acetone but it didn’t do anything.

The deck is flat between the feet with a slight rocker in the nose before the end turns up. I've got a video in the series on how I made the mold, but I basically eyeballed my curves
