Thanks! Your isolating foam idea gave me inspiration for my snow gun project!

I've been thinking about a snowgun build, what style are you doing?

Very clever to use foam for your mold. I’ve got a hotwire I use to give foam surfboards their outline and rocker, so I’ll use a combination of your technique and the hotwire technique to make a ski mold. Thanks! Great series, I’d love to see a v2 :D

My friends and I do quite a bit of composite construction for remote controlled gliders. We've found that Highload 60 (60psi) makes a better mold than the 25psi foam that you're using. Also, be careful when buying Spray77, there is a version with acetone in it, and that ruins foam in very upsetting ways. Your videos are really good, thank you for putting the time in to make them.

Thanks for the tips! Where do you get ahold of the stiffer foam? I've just been getting my stuff from a lumber yard

@@GoodRoads Concrete supply places. It's used for making forms. They look at you weird when you ask for a single sheet.

It's a great time! You spend the first day or two on your butt so don't get discouraged, everything after that is so much fun!

Dude! Thanks for making these videos. I’ve been making some boards over the past few years, but it seems like I still make junk lol. Your work is inspiring me to keep at it.

I’m just eagerly waiting for the next video to come out. Will you do a cost breakdown for the total project?
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 4 жыл бұрын
I could try! It might be kind of hard to figure out a lot of the material costs since I had a bunch of it already

Any plans for an approach ski build? I'm looking at something like DIY Drift boards as a less complicated project than a full on snowboard.

I've been thinking about trying to do a split pow-surfer with 3d printed hardware or straps for the ski/snowshoe part of the build. It's a complex puzzle but if I figure it out I'll feature it here on the channel

So is it correct to say that the camber or rocker design is an outcome of the mold shape? For the rocker I would need to make it flatter than in the camber area where it will be more curvy? I am just starting with the diy builds and having troubles to understand that point. My idea is to build a pow board with nose rocker and camber down the tail. Great channel!

Exactly, all the geometry of the of the base of the board comes from the mold. Rocker means that the center of the board is curving upwards like this: ‿ and camber means the center of the board is curving downwards like this: ⁔. So if you ever hear about rocker/camber/rocker profiles, all that means is that the board is curving upwards or downwards in different areas of the deck. All of those curves are pretty subtle

After watching all these I still dont know how a vacuum bag works
@karikaroyt2689

As air leaves the bag, the bag naturally wants to shrivel up and compress (not the best words for that, but I can’t think of what else to say.) As it does that, both sides of the bag press inward, pressing the board and the mold together. The less air, the stronger the vacuum, the stronger the press.

Another way to think about it is: we're living way down at the bottom of an ocean of air which is Earth's atmosphere. Just like deep sea fish, we don't notice it because that's the environment we're adapted to, but there's a ton (or 14.7 PSI to be accurate) of pressure pushing down on us all the time. By sucking all the air out of a vac bag you're allowing all that ambient pressure to come crashing down on whatever's inside, and we can use that to make fun stuff like skateboards and snowboards
