Goods In #9 - Trond Bluetooth Apt-X Transmitter & Receiver

Unboxing, overview and test pairing of the Trond Apt-X Bluetooth transmitter and receiver. This tiny device can plug into any standard headphone socket and transmit it to e.g. wireless headphones. Alternatively, it can act as a receiver so you can connect your phone to an amplifier via RCA phono plugs.
I bought this to try out the possibility of having wireless monitoring headphones on a camera. Hopefully the low latency (40ms) apt-x codec will make this possible.
In the video, I unbox and describe the product, show it's possible use with the camera and test pairing it to a bluetooth speaker.

So I pair the transmitter to my soundbar using my phone the once its paired then plug the transmitter to my projector and then I can transmit the sound from my projector to the soundbar?

Hi, question so it is important to have receiver as well as transmitter if you're planning to use your headset's microphones

Ok. First thanks for posting the video. I bought an Aisidra from Amazon for about the same price and for the same reason and both units are basically the same. The Aisidra does not pair with all my BT equipment, and I am disappointed with the volume of the audio when it does pair. Usually I wind up using a BT audio receiver (Amazon brand) that it does pair with. Does the Trond work better?

This will not work with newer TV's that have ONLY digital optical outlets for a special mating cable

Has anyone done this to an ipod classic and connect it to a car? The newer cars doesn't seem to wanna work with old ipods. Been having problems doing this. It works with aux, but the sound is def not the same and I hate it.

It should be a perfect use for this. I'm assuming you have it set to TX on the switch?

For a smartphone, do you think that plugging an external DAC + this aptx transmitter would increase the sound quality noticeably ? (I already have an aptx-compatible pair of headphones) Thanks!

I doubt you would notice any difference. You would still have to use the analogue part of this unit so if it's true audio quality you're after, this receiver / transmitter is a low price solution using cheap electronics. It's not going to win any audio awards but it is very handy!

Don't get this for iOS devices. It doesn't support AAC, so it uses the lowest quality SBC bluetooth codec when connected to an iPhone. Also, there is a noticeable hiss constantly audible at low volumes. It was so annoying that I returned mine.

is it possible connect to DSLR camera in Audio iN. Then connect to it via Android phone and use phone like a remote mic?

I doubt Android would pre-amp the mic in this way to feed out of the headphone socket. There's never really a reason to monitor a mobile phone mic in this way (even though it would be very handy!!). I could be wrong though. Someone with more Android experience may be able add more here.

Probably wifi/bluetooth connection may have a bit of delay. And I figured out that the best to buy a corded mic, or expensive wireless like Samson or Seingeizer.

BTW I found the the Anroid APP , but it should have testing and not have any noizes.

I don't think so. Which setup are you thinking of? If you had a bluetooth headset and used this device as a receiver, you'd need to plug it into the microphone input on your computer. This could possibly work but the output of the Trond is line level and not mic level so it would probably be distorted. You might be able to adjust for that. If you wanted to plug a non-bluetooth headset into the Trond and use it to transmit, I don't think it would work either as the Trond has a stereo line in so you'd have the wrong level and the wrong connector type. :( Sorry.

I know I'm 6 months late to this party and I'm no expert, but I believe this wouldn't work as the A2DP profile this device supports is unidirectional (from transmitter to receiver). I believe you'd need some sort of device which supports either HFP or HSP Bluetooth profile.

Hi Eric. Sorry, I missed this one. The latency is noticeable. I wanted this for monitoring on camera audio and that is pretty awkward if the people speaking are close to you. The tiny delay is extremely off-putting. I was hoping this would be much less noticeable.

Yes, they are listed on the Apt-X site. The latency is claimed to be 40ms which isn't really low enough for speech. It's fine if you can't hear the first copy (e.g. watching a video the lip sync will look fine) but not for camera audio monitoring where you can hear the person talking.

Thanks for the video, but it would have been much helpful if you actually showed the latency issue. Wasn't this the main feature you were trying to show in the video? You did not mention it at all in the video nor show it.

Not in this video. This was just a 'goods in' (unboxing) video and basic overview and setup. I can see that would be helpful and do plan to do this in a video very soon. Thanks for the feedback! :)

Would you be able to include whether you can continuously have it turned on for home theater use? I wonder if it will be possible to just have it plugged in and stream 24.7 even when not in use just to lessen the hassle of turning on or off for my parents. Does it auto turn off when in standby? Does it turn automatically on when usb is plugged to charge? thanks

I take a look at the latency here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4euhKqemJKmfaM (couldn't find an ideal way to do it though so it's a bit crude). It does not turn on automatically when plugged into charge but can be left on while plugged into a charger. You'd only need a very low current USB charger for a device like this. If both devices were left on, I don't think 24/7 connection would be a problem.

Having tried something like this to make my bedroom speakers bluetooth accessible what I found was that if it lost signal for long enough (which will happen if you're not listening to something 24/7) the device would emit (through your speakers) a beep every few seconds. Ruined that plan. Now I use it to stream to a couple of bluetooth speakers simultaneously while playing badminton or other outdoor activities with friends. Makes me the music-meister of every party.
