In episode 2 of New Life and this modded Minecraft series, I start by taking my airplane out for a flight and meeting up with Jimmy and letting him go for a flight...but I almost end one of his lives by him falling out of the airplane. As another pilot, I just wish the runway were longer. I counted blocks (1 block=1 m), and it’s only about 500 ft with another 150 feet of thresholds. That’s really small.

Hey scar! Just a tip for the plane railway: if you link 2 minecarts together with a minecart chain (from the create mod), and attach both minecarts to the plane with glass, it will turn smoother, as well as looking a bit better when it eventually goes up and down! :)

Instead of using rails and minecarts, I would use train tracks and trains. This way you can steer the plane at intersections, make smoother slopes and corners and use schedules. The only caveat is that train casings and train tracks are bit more complex to craft than rails and minecarts (but it's worth it!).

I thought he picked the bc they were faster to craft (and a lot of similar content was done before the release of create 0.5.0, so maybe he saw it somewhere else and just doesn't really know about trains).

As a commercial pilot myself you did an amazing job! Two things I’d like to add: usually the red lights on the runway mark the last 1,000 feet so you may want to move them up from the blast area a little bit. And adding some PAPI guidance lights on the side would be a great addition!

If you use the create trains instead of the minecarts you can set up schedules and signals. You can use the schedules to automate plane takeoff, for example have it only take off if a passenger is present and you can use signals to insure only one plane is on the runway at a time. It also makes it way easier to have multiple planes.

Flight instructor here….you should add REIL and MALSR lighting systems. the REIL lights strobe and the MALSR flash in sequence. You can use redstone and lamps for those and they would like super cool at night. Adding a maintenance hanger with equipment, oil stains etc would be cool! Love the Vids Scar!

This is an impressive build. I was in airfield management for the USAF and from what I remember your markings are spot on. Tip for your hangers: when you're building your hangers and parking area make sure you give enough space for the aircraft to move around each other (this is called wingtip clearance). Hopefully, it'll not only help your build look more accurate but give you room for error with the create mod. BTW, I'm new to your channel and I really, really enjoy your videos. They always make me feel better. Thank you for being a wonderfully positive influence.

I love all of this so much! Little tip: Create has a "Controller Rail" that's basically a directional powered rail. If you put it under the airplane, you won't have to give it a little push every time. Also, to get rid of the 'favorited' recipe in the top left, click and drag it to the bottom left.

Your airport already looks so cool! Some things you could add are a windsock (the tube that shows wind speed and direction) and PAPI (Precision approach path indicator) lights. There are four PAPI lights in a row on both sides of the runway that tell the pilot if are at a good height when landing. Each light can either be red or white. You want to have two red and two white lights to land. More than two red means you’re too low and more than two white means you’re too high. You don’t have to add these but I feel like it would be a really cool addition, especially if you could get them to turn on only when the plane is about to land. Once again, amazing job so far!!! You are really inspirational!

Instead of carts you could use trains and that would give u the control to decide where to "fly" also then you could automate planes with fly patterns of course you can do all of that with the carts too. Also for 14:58 i went to test in singleplayer to get it while you are looking at the crafting recipe you pull from recipe and place it to the top left screen to delete it you pull it to the bottom of the left screen. Also just as a fact by pressing A by default you can list items to the book mark tab and the bookmark tab is the left side off the inventory.

Hey Scar, I think that PAPI lights would be a really awesome addition to the airport. PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicators, I think) are four red and white lights, usually to the left of the landing zone, that indicate whether the plane is too high for landing, too low, or just right. It'd be pretty cool if you could look into that! Also, I'm a pretty big aviation fan and I'm loving what you're doing this series. 👍

As an airline pilot I can say it looks good. A hold short line (the yellow one across the taxi way before the runway) is normally 200ft back from the runway, so for scale in your build runway lights are normally 200ft apart from each other as well. A hold short line would also normally have a yellow dashed line on the runway side of the line. It means you can always leave the runway as your crossing the dashed side, but can’t enter the runway with out permission since it’s solid. And your taxiway/runway identifier signs are normally on stands in the grass to the side of a taxiway. For lighting color white is sides of a runway, blue is taxiways and aprons, yellow denotes the start of a taxiway from the apron side and is on both sides of the taxiway, a double blue is on the runway entrance side of the taxiways on both sides of the taxiway, the runway end lighting is red and runway start is marked by green. But all in all I think you’ve done a fantastic job and the changes for a bit more accuracy are not needed as overall smaller airports don’t always have all markings and if they are private aerodromes some countries/states/provinces don’t require them to.

Student pilot here. Runway looks great. 27 or 270 is West. You even nailed the blast pads with them being a darker color! The only green lights along the displaced threshold are flush mount and are often only found at the bigger airports.

As a transportation engineer who has studied runways and taxiways this very fun to watch. The markings are pretty accurate so far! The numbers even match the winnd rose calcs for a dual runway East/West takeoff. I dug out my old work to see if there is anything to add. Something realistic to add may be the clearway which is further down the runway in the takeoff/landing direction where you can only have objects below a specific height, given you have a two way runway it should be in both directions. You could also add a stopway, which is pavement strength, for aborted take-off. also you could have another runway for when there is a crosswind (or go crazy like Chicago has to) commonly a crossing runway can have multiple configurations but a diagonal one is normal(Edmonton, Canada has a unique diagonal design with good access to the terminal). A flag matching the take off wind direction would be a cool addition.

Hey scar, I'm an air traffic controller. You're movement area markings are fantastic. The only minor critique I have is that your hold short lines are too close to the runway edge lines. So you don't have a runway safety area (which is usually 250 from the runway centerline). But again, you are spot on. I can see the hours you must have spent researching. Great job.

Scar you'll be very happy to know your runway is pretty accurate! Runways marked 27 (270°) do face either exactly or within 5° of due west. I can't really think of much else to make it more accurate! Looking forward to seeing how the Scarport progresses! P.s. you may want to add some iron bars with the red lights on either end of the runway, they operate as additional threshold/landing guidance lights😊

Now that is one hell of a great start to an airport! I've been contemplating building one myself in Minecraft, and now i just might have to. One tip you could do is to add "Wig-Wag" lights on both sides of the taxiway where it meets the runway. A Typical light marking to show pilots they are about to enter an active runway. You could make that with just a couple of redstone lamps that flash in turn, one off one on. Those go on both sides of the taxiway. And stop bars on the taxiway before the runway, these are red lights in the ground itself. Another thing you could do is to have the "Running rabbit" lead in lights at the end of the runway, this is to lead aircraft in to the runway centerline when the weather is bad. There are also lights in the taxiway lines and runway centerline itself for low visibility and night operations that can be put in. I will be happy to provide charts from real airports or screenshots from simulators if that would be helpful for you. But you have a great start here! Keep up the great work!

I love your runway and taxiway! Nice touch with the stopways at each end of the runway and especially brilliant touch to place the compass headings matching the in-game directions! The one suggestion I'd make if I may is to move the holding points (yellow line between the taxiway and runway) a block or two back. Usually it will be like that in real life so if a larger aircraft with longer wings were to land or take off, there would be more clearance between it and awaiting aircraft. It would also probably be more realistic to place some touchdown zone markings (white rectangles) where the landing skids are, but if that crowds up the build too much I think it looks good enough without. :)

Wow, as a fan aviation, Scar's information surprised me alot, usually when people build runways and airports, they miss out alot, but here, you've got alot! ... Although, something I spotted, I'm not sure if I looked correctly, but I believe the airport runway numbers, are the wrong way round, next to 'facing:', you need to check the degrees, when you were looking towards 27' you were actually facing 90 degrees and vice versa, so those should be switched. (Basically 27 is 270/-90 degrees, which is east, I believe and 09 is 90 degrees, which should be west)

You should add the 1000 foot markers, which are these big white boxes beside the center line on both sides. It indicates when you have 1000 feet left of runway in front of you or behind you. It is also used as a common place to touch down on the runway where the touchdown marks (from the tires) are. search it up

@@chadrussell1221 That's odd, F3+A is a chunk reload so it shouldn't take any longer than it does to load between two waystones. F3+T on the other hand is a full resource reload and is the type of reloading that happens when you move resource packs around in the settings. That reload could potentially take a really long time, almost as long as booting up the modpack.

To remove favourites in JEI / REI (The recipes and blocks on the left of your inventory screen. push the "A" key whilst hovering over them. You can also do this whilst hovering over a block on the right side to add them to the favourites list if you ever want to.

As an relitive aviation enthusiast, I can say that this is a increddible rendition of a runway, you even managed to include the thresholds at the end of the runway! Only thing I would say to add the landing markers at the ‘skid mark areas’ which are white rectangles.

hey scar the airport looks amazing! yes you do have the heading numbers correct! the only stuff is that the yellow line goes out to the white dash part (before the numbers), some airports do 9 instead of 09 but that’s personal preference. some stuff i think would be cool would be stretching the runway out a little more (adds more room and makes it look more real) and add a compass rose!

The runway looks very good. Every small airport has a restaurant or diner, for the pilots to eat and the people to watch the planes. Also you could add the parachutists that jump out of the plane. It would make the build and air look incredibly lively.

15:15 those are bookmarked items and recipes. The default key bond for them is ‘a’. Just hit the keybind while the mouse is over them :)

Not a pilot, but I've been driving airfields for a while. The single yellows along the aprons and taxiways (that also lead to centerline runway) are pretty much "front wheel here" lines. They'll lead to and from parking areas - which if they're not in a hangar, will have a larger yellow rectangle perpendicular to the yellow line to show where to stop. (Take a look at Barksdale AFB, you can see what I mean.) The runway markings (in your case 09 and 27) are correct. Markings are based on compass degrees with the last digit (ones place) removed, with North being 36 - as in you are traveling *toward* the 360° mark on a compass. Runway 09 would be traveling towards the east, and 27 traveling west - for 90° and 270° respectively.

Hey scar! I’m a private pilot and I gotta say hpthe runway looks great. You could add a PAPI glide slope to the side to add some extra detail. And some thousand foot marks could help, but overall it looks great! Keep it up!

This is an amazing start to an airport Scar, keep it up! BTW you can replace the grey stained glass panes for regular ones on your plane and it will be even more invisible, especially with optifine (or another mod that connects textures) on. Speaking as a pilot too the markings are perfect on the runway (27 is west and 09 is east), I love the displaced threshold and blast pads too! I can't help but to notice the arrows are slightly different though lol.

Im glad that scar got the runway numbers correct 09 and 27. These numbers are based on the runways orientation from North. 90 Degrees and 270 Degrees.

Scar, you should add a windsock!! And for some bird scarers, you could use sculk sensors to go off when any potential "birds" are near the runway. Also, space on the side of the runway and extra area on the end are crucial for any brake failures, tire blow out, or messy landings. The chances of you seeing this are low but as someone who works airside all small airports need these.
