Will be installing in my 124 Spider next week! Very happy with the CSF Radiator. Thank You for all your help. Very appreciated 👍

Hi, I would like to respectfully disagree with the triple passage radiator idea unless I am missing something in the design that is not mentioned here, like a bigger surface area etc. The original Miata radiator allows just 1 pass but that also means less restrictive design and higher flow, because water has to travel shorter across the input and the output. You always want to have as high temperature as you can on a radiator for cooling purposes, let me elaborate what I am trying to say a little bit more with a basic convection heat exchange equation. Q = H * A ( Ts - Ta ), Q is the transferred heat, H is the heat transfer coefficient, A is the surface area, Ts is the surface temperature in this case the surface of the radiator and Ta is the air temperature. Lets say both radiators are made out of same material and the surface areas are the same, in this case the difference between the 2 radiators would be dependent on temperature difference between the surface and the air, if we accept also the air temperature is the same, the only thing that determines how heat will be transferred is the surface temperature Ts. If you allow your coolant to spend more time in the radiator, that means after some point in your radiator the average temperatures will be cooler than single pass radiator. This will result in less temperature delta hence less heat being transferred. That is why water usually is used inside coolants, for example in Formula 1 the coolant is %97 water. Because water has a high heat capacity and doesnt cool/heat easily, that means it will hold its temperature inside the engine allowing for bigger temperature delta thus more heat being absorbed at a given time compared to something with a less specific heat, that will also means it will keep its temperature longer in the radiators thus keeping that delta temperature higher for longer thus rejecting more heat at a given time. I might have missed something about this specific radiator or my article above might need some corrections, if so I am sorry about these and welcome any additional info.

That transmission air scoop will scoop speed bumps.

Just installed it. I have Progress lowering springs with the Blisteins and I'm at exactly 4" of clearance. It took away approx 1".

@@62Sketch I have the grille, but the scoop is enticing. Have you hit anything yet?

@@pchae1 Not yet. Did a run to the grocery store in it this afternoon and there were some pretty big speed bumps in the shopping center. Biggest I've gone over with it yet. Was prepared for a scrape, but no issues. Should have stopped and checked clearance, but there was a car behind me. I also have an S2000 type shifter knob. Just bare machined aluminum. There were times that thing would be pretty darn hot after a spirited drive in 100 degree type weather. I've done a couple hot weather runs since I put the scoop on... haven't noticed as much heat in the knob. There are a number of factors at play, so who knows if its the scoop or not, but I'm happy with it so far.

@@62Sketch Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like a great simple, yet beneficial mod. I'm afraid of what the plate might take with it if it were to snag on a hard place at a high speed. Only one way to find out I guess.

Does the grille and transmission air scoop increase drag and/or wind noise? What is the weight of the grille compared to stock?

Hi, thank you for these informative videos. Could you do a video on the pros + cons between choosing a 16 inch wheel and 17 inch wheel for the ND? The former usually contributes to less unsprung weight, but I also hear from others that the latter would have benefits of better steering feel and I was curious to hear your opinion/experience on this subject. Apologies for the rather stupid question - would the 6 piston wilwood brake calipers allow clearance for 16 inch wheels?

Spyder grille would fit on Euro MX5 ND2 (Zenith spec, mostly comparable with Gt spec)?
