The Goodwood Trophy recreates some of the very first races at Goodwood after it opened in 1948. Post-war there were few new racing cars so the pre-war machines that had been in storage through the war were pressed back into action. You can see ERAs, Maseratis, Altas and more all in racing action.

Not UK, it's north and north-western europe in general. Anderstorp, Assen, Zandvoort, Zolder, Spa, Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Dijon, Le Mans ... all home circuits of the historic racing calendar.

We have some historic racing notably around tracks like Daytona I know Oregon where I used to live had several clubs for mgb, old trans am series cars like 60-70s mustangs Camaros and vettes, cortinas, old nascars, all sorts of stuff. I used to go to PIR and Seattle raceway with my dad all the time. Sometimes they went on trips to California to race Laguna Seca

I was at this race and it was just as exciting as the commentators said. To see 80+ year old cars racing closely against one another at such high speed was a real thrill. What does not come across in the video is the sound which the BRM V16 makes. It was the loudest racing car that I have ever heard, far louder than any F1 car from the past 20 years. A guy in an RAF uniform standing beside me measured it at 118 decibels. Apparently, anything above 85 decibels can be injurious to your hearing.

Chainsaws run at 118 db as well . Just use ear defenders . Not as much fun as watching a bunch of nutters howling round though is it

Quite so. Apparently anything 126 dB and over is considered weaponized audio.

Just a thought: the bottle that fell onto the track could have been a catch tank for oil vapor (same as what they use as a radiator catch tank).

@@gumpy4960 That will just take a lot of time the organizers and the commentators don't really have; they have a schedule packed full of races, parades, and all that.

@@jcgabriel1569 the commentators don’t have to do anything, put the info on the screen and the audience can read it, they already put info on what cars are racing and in what position so why not just add engine size, configuration, hp etc aswell, it’s hardly a big effort.

Simultaneously (how well do you speed read?) or sequentially (at least 6 or 7 minutes before each race of silence as we read the text or the commentators sending us to sleep as they read the specs. And which specs would you like? There; I gave you a choice between two problems.

The ERA have been raced and developed ever since 1934 with a hyatus during WW2… whereas the unreliable BRM just returned to racing… it may need a few years to get better, who knows ? But for sure, the ERA have swept the board for decades…

And it kept its reputation... Last time those V16s raced, is at the first Revival race in 1997. Three were entered (two MkIIs driven by Nick Mason and Peter Gethin, and a MkI driven by restorer Rick Hall-father of the current driver Rob Hall), the two MkIIs were already out by the parade lap, and the last car, the MkI, only completed few slow laps before retiring in the race...

Yes, apart from the E Type ERA, that had a manual gearbox fitted as original.
