For 25 years, I owned an excellent CASE open station 50 hp tractor at our recreational country property in central Ontario, with essentially the same weather you have in Michigan. I then realized that my "Best Before Date" had expired and treated myself to a new Kubota cab tractor with HVAC. This summer, when it was too hot, humid and buggy to work outdoors, I often climbed into my tractor, hooked up a mower, and thoroughly enjoyed myself for three hours with the A/C cranked up, listening to a good book. Last week, I cranked up the heat and used my HLA snow pusher. Life is short. Winter is long. Thanks for the great videos.

I have a horse farm and one big reason I need an open station is to be able to fold the ROPS and get it into the barn. This enables me to use the loader to get heavy items into the upper floor. Probably a special case but vertical clearance is a consideration. I’d love a second cab tractor for mowing and snow clearing

Going from a 8N Ford to TYM T-474C cab. Just got done clearing 1,000' driveway with bucket and straight blade with no problems after 14" of snow. I'm so glad I spent the money for a cab. Almost felt guilty when neighbors were using their open stations tractors and I was nice and warm in the 10 degree weather. Was nice to have the AC during the summer also.

For the first month I had the BX2380 blowing snow it was open cab. Let me tell you it was hell on earth! I was dressed to the hilt to stay warm and even then I froze! In blowing wind during storms I ended up like a snowman! I tried goggles and they didn’t work and trust me they were top of the line goggles. Guaranteed not to freeze but yup they did and I couldn’t see out of them for the frost build up on the inside of the lens. Finally I talked to my mom and we had a Tektite Cab installed with heat, LED lights front and back and a wiper. What a difference that made. I could now actually enjoy blowing out driveways while a storm raged. We’ve had around 300cm of snow so far and when I was blowing snow twice a day I sure didn’t miss an open cab! I do shut my door gently after watching your first show about your door shattering 😉

I have a 1025R open station because I have the backhoe and at the time they didn’t make a cab that you could operate a backhoe. I went through snowblowing and it wasn’t fun. When we got 15” of snow one October that was an enough. I couldn’t justify buy a new tractor but went with an add one cab from the Original Tractor Cab company which would work with a backhoe when I detached the back part. While not completely tight and the electric heater isn’t the greatest, I sure glad I went that route. Being able to keep the snow out of your face is a big plus. I take the canvas off in the summer and leave the fame on so I have a canopy to keep the sun off me. Really enjoy your channel.

Used to cut 17 acres of grass at our airport with a MF175 open station, cool in spring and fall, roast during summer. Blow snow in winter with rear mounted blower, dressed in a snowmobile suit and helmet. Stiff neck from turning around. Got smart, have a Kubota L6060 with cab and front mount blower, stay warm, in summer it’s got the A/C to keep you comfortable, plus music and Bluetooth.

Yeah, while picking out my tractor, I wanted a cab, then as you said, saw the price difference, I decided that I didn't want to be that guy that was found frozen to his tractor seat and couldn't be buried until they thawed him out. I have on several occasions finished days a couple hours after the rain started that I wouldn't have otherwise. Hands down in Central Indiana, a cab is a good investment. I survived this past week doing snow removal. And as one KZbinr has said, in response to people worried about a branch breaking the glass of their cab ... would you prefer that same branch strike your face? With some thought, it's a no Brainer, a cab is the best plan.

Just my 2 cents. I’ve used cab kubota M9960 tractors to maintain road ways for a county road department. We’ve shattered a plenty of doors. Accidents happens. The comfort level depends on available accessories. Pros - keeps you out of the elements. Dark tinted windows helps with glare from the sun, helps a little bit with the cooling. Cons - min protection from debris or large objects. I list it as a con because it can be more of an headache, depending upon your situation. Another downside will be if your Air goes out. They then holds an unmentionable amount of heat. We would have to open up both doors and side glass along with rear window just to get started. But if you’re pulling a large batwing it’s now fills up with dust and whatever else decides to choke you out. On the older Kubota’s we’d just remove the doors to save money on the replacements and half the headache. Now on my personal tractors I lean towards an open station just for my own personal preference. I have a Kioti that my wife calls my Girlfriend. I say just don’t come between a man and his tractor. I’ve been around tractors for nearly fifty years. I also help new tractor enthusiasts choose and pick tractors for their new tractor investment. In 2025, I stand by this channel.

For me the cab is essentially mandatory for snow work in Wyoming, and it’s great for dust and AC in summer. Oddly enough, I generally don’t run the heater in the winter, as the cab is sealed up too well and it gets too hot. Kubota B2650.

You had a bad piece of glass going all the way back to when it was tempered. In an extremely rare cases there will be a flaw within tempered glass resulting in spontaneous breakage. All glass manufacturers will warranty this 100%. As for cab or open station, I’ll take my cab all day. I’ve mowed over countless bee hives that would have been painful without it. Plus a/c and heat sure is nice when you want it.

We run a fleet of John Deere , Deutz, Kubota and Fendt vineyard cab tractors in California. Every year our guys will break one or two doors. This usually happens when they open the doors traveling at road speeds against high winds where the door violently swings open and shatters or they will open the door as the tractor is moving down the vine rows and the door edge touches the vine because the rows are narrow then the door shatters. Or we’re chopping brush and a rock will sling out , hit the front tire and bounce back and shatter the lower glass of the front windshield. Each door of the John Deere 5101 EN is now $1000 dollars. But we won’t buy an open station because we are constantly spraying or sulfur dusting and we want the guy to be comfortable.

The main contributor to an all glass door failing is the torque imposed on the tempered glass by the two separate and disconnected hinges. Tempered glass fails primarily for two reasons. 1) Sharp impact. This can be a simple pebble with a sharp edge. 2) Torque on the window. Tempered glass is pre stressed. Put on a pair of polarized sunglasses and look at it. See all those little dots? Those are from the cooling jets that rapid cool the molten glass creating stress concentration spots. Automobiles alleviate the stress in the glass by having a full frame. The hinges are connected to the frame not the glass. By the way, do not ever use plastic window treatment (Tint or Armor) on a tempered egress window. You will not get out in an emergency that jams the door.

For our open station tractor, we had a canvas cab for the winter. It keeps the wind from blowing directly into your face, but there is no heat other than what might come off the radiator, so it is better than nothing when you need to go somewhere in winter.

Pure and simple, manufacturers defect in the glass. Don't let this scare you from buying a cab. I've had several kubota cab tractors over the past 20 years and never a single issue on any glass. I've logged over 8k hours doing hard, rough work with my cab tractors. When the glass is manufactured correctly, it's very strong and reliable. In my opinion, I will never go back to an open station. The benefits outweigh the cons.

I have been using tractors ever since I can push the clutch in! Rode on them as a baby apparently in a sling in front of my mom!! 😂😂 I have both still, but I use my 4 series John Deere almost all the time & it has a closed cab. I am so used to them in the big, BIG field tractors we used that when I get in the cab of a 4 series it feels like my vision isn’t obstructed at all!! I have a zero turn I rarely use now that everything is landscaped with 8” borders. The rear mower on the 4series is easy to manoeuvre. It’s a flail mower that can be adjusted side to side I bought for around the ponds & in the road ditches our property is up against. I have a 2032 John Deere as well with a roof only. We have a 3 acre pond & it freezes over every year. I hate driving on ice, but I hate shovelling a skating rink even more!! I use that open cab machine on the ice so I can escape if the ice let’s go. It’s about 15” right now & growing thicker so it’s fine, but I have lost friends through the ice. I have a blade that articulates in place of the bucket & cleaning the ice is easy. I drilled the tires & put winter tire ice studs in them it’s easy to do & having a friend with a tire shop means I was able to do it myself! They are unnoticeable any other time of the year. I use it to till between the rows of trees around the acreage/small farm. We get big winds and very often fall & spring so a 2 or 3 row tree wind break is nice to have. The easiest and least damaging to the trees weed control is regular tilling 3-4 times generally spring through fall. I generally us a disc behind the tractor, but the soil has a high clay content & sometime using the tiller is the only way to go. It’s tight in there so the 2 series is the best. The open cab is nice, generally, but it’s inevitable I get stung by a wasp or 2 doing the job. I hardly react except when they first sting you 😮😮. Even though the 4 series isn’t very large it just don’t fit in those trees. Then there’s old reliable!! 1985 John Deere 3150 with a loader and 5 or 6 buckets, haven’t used them all lately. It has a “Man” platform we built and it’s almost high enough to get in & paint or clean the higher windows on the main shop here. They are just for light but it’s nice keeping them clean so the light can actually get in! 😂😂. I have a 4 ft ladder I use to get to the top of the windows,,, 😮😮😂😂. Yeah I’m a retired farmer,,,,,,. That old tractor has about 14,000 hours on it & one rebuild at about 12,000 hours. It’s so reliable, easy to use with the power shift & if you didn’t know better you would think it was only a couple of years old!! Shop kept all its life, new seats & handles so everything shows as new. Take care of them & they will last a long time!! As for tempered glass, doors or just the windows, that crap just pops sometimes, no rhyme or reason. Went out to the shop one day to get in old faithful & the right side window had shattered. I doubt that was ever even opened in the time that tractor Ben with us, from new! If the light hits it and causes a big difference in the temperature of the glass vs elsewhere it can pop just like that. We had a feed wagon we pulled with a larger tractor & we would fill it & pull it into a designated heated shop so it was ready to go in the morning! It wasn’t even a surprise anymore if you went in there at 6:00 am to find the glass had shattered! We had a piece of plexiglass that filled the opening fairly well with some tape. It always worked until the new glass showed up. It kept the heat in & cold out. It always busted in the fall - spring. As soon as it got really cold & we sat it with feed in it overnight. Temperature, banging the edge, if it’s unprotected, or twisting and that stuff let’s go!! Sorry about the long comment. Got to reminiscing a little bit! 😂😂. Cabs for me!! I’m in South/cental Alberta, Canada.

There should be a safety investigation open. If the glass is tempered inadequately the internal pressure inside the glass can be close to the failure point. All it takes is a small trigger to go over the limit. Glass is very easy to break once the trash-hold is reached.
@slavkochepasov81345 сағат бұрын
It can be million reasons why. The door fit and installation. The rubber dempfer around the glass. Who knows. One is certain. Car manufactures have figured it out and been able to pass crash tests and road test by hundred thousands units. The tractor manufactures are not.

An open station tractor works well for us. The temperature range at my farm is fairly temperate, getting down to freezing point rarely and getting over 35 degrees C which is around 100 F rarely too. Generally the temperature is around 15 degrees to 25 degrees C which is around 60 to 80 F. However I probably need a cab tractor for spraying. I might buy a spraying drone instead of buying a 70 HP cab tractor. We will see.

It definitely is a pain to mow when it is 90F degrees and high humidity and no breeze and sunny, and there are very little to no shade trees around!! It is also a pain to remove snow, either with a plow or snow blower when it is 20F and the wind is howling and blowing the snow all over you!! That is why I now and have preferred a cab tractor with heat and AC!! I just never had the $$$ to be able to afford one!! 😂😂😂

I first operated a tractor in the 60s on a farm. We used to buy stuff at auction when needed and sell it when we didn't or upgraded. We went through a ton of tractors and none was a cab tractor. We had 100 acres. I couldn't imagine using a cab on that small of a farm. I love hearing the sound of the bailer. Or whatever you're running. Getting the sun. Feeling the air. Cold or hot. And being able to hook from the seat with your quick hitch. I think it's bad to change temperature too often. Especially AC to Humid heat and back. Now if your spending the week in it. Got GPS plowing and all that. Cab. But I'm with you. Open station. And I don't cringe when I sit down. I've heard this door exploding story many times. I have noticed the more framed doors do it less often.
