I put anti-seize on the bolts and nuts when I put my wheel weights on. Usually they will stay on for years and I have found that when you do have to take the weights off those that had the anti-seize are easy to remove while the non treated bolts can be knuckle breakers. Great video as always, thanks!

You should’ve put the first nut on the threaded rod then followed by the lock washer and flat washer. Then stick the short threaded end through the hole in the rim from outside. Then put washers and nuts on the threaded rod from the inside of the wheel. Would’ve saved having to thread the second nut the entire length of the rod
@GoodWorksTractors4 жыл бұрын
Could have done it that way. Means I would have had to be in an awkward position to hold the rod and get the nut on. I'm fine with doing it my way again. Same result in the end.

I believe it all boils down to cost. 1/2 inch Carriage bolts, especially Grade 8 bolts are more expensive than threaded rod which you can purchase in longer lengths and cut off the lengths you need for each bolt.

My 2025R was delivered with 60 pound stackable weights fastened with carriage bolts. I removed them to replace tires. Reading through my tractor manual, it said you can do liquid ballast OR wheel weights, but don't do both at same time.

Lots of JD dealers do wheel weights, liquid ballast, and 3 point ballast. Also depends on the year and model. Manuals have changed a lot over the years. I'll always tell everyone to default to common sense and your manufacturer recommendations. 👍

Still deciding on the configuration of my 1025R, but was thinking of getting the rim guard plus the 70lb and the 50lb weights on rear tires. That must not be a John Deere weight. I have 70 lb John Deere weights on mine and they do not stick out beyond the wheel in fact they're about 1 in . So I stacked two more 50 lb weights on that 70 on each side which is the maximum amount that they recommend. My total width of my tractor is 55 in wide. Does that give me stability. With my liquid ballast and wheel weights I have a total of 540 lb. But I use John Deere weights and that's what they recommended. On your tractor there it doesn't look like you can add any more weights to that wheel weight!!! Thanks for a great video Larry

Howdy, Whats your take on adding wheel weights to a 2305 working in South Florida sandy soil? More traction or burying the tractor faster?
@GoodWorksTractors4 жыл бұрын
You still need ballast weight when using a loader. Tractors can tip over without adequate ballast regardless of soil condition.
@liemavick4 жыл бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors Understood, I should have mentioned I have the rear wheels liquid ballast and always have my box scraper mounted when doing heavy work with the bucket. With the rear wheels being liquid filled. Is there a problem adding air to the tires? Will you loose any liquid?
@paulmollise18564 жыл бұрын
With liquid filled tires. Always put the valve stem at 12 o’clock to check the air pressure, use a liquid tire pressure gauge. Napa sells them, liquid tire pressure gauges have a spring in-the gauge to help push out excess fluid after you check pressure I like to put some air in before checking pressure just to blow and fluids away from valve seat if your fluid level is below the valve stem

How much does this increase traction versus having nothing but the box blade back there? I find the 1025r has plenty of power, but lacks traction. I'm hoping adding some suitcase weights and wheel weights will give my wheels more bite. I was spinning the tires when dragging the box blade.

One thing I am curious about... There are 2 categories of weights used on lawn/garden tractors for moving snow and that being wheel weights that mount to the rims and rear weights that hang on the back of the tractor frame or chassis. I had a Snapper 1650 and I did not have wheel weights for it so I mounted a box and put concrete blocks in the box. After the first winter season of use with this weight I noticed the rear axle seals were leaking badly. I think the wheel weights might be a better application because they do not put all that weight directly on your axle hub seals. Not sure if this caused the leaking but I'm suspicious that it did.
@GoodWorksTractors2 жыл бұрын
Equipment manuals should give instructions on possible options for ballast. Some garden tractors will instruct you to remove the wheel weights when not needed for example.

Your mission (if you accept it) is to figure out a way to mount wheels on a blade. Seems silly to be grinding a blade into the road.
@GoodWorksTractors4 жыл бұрын
Skid shoes, skid runners, float position aren't sufficient? If a paved or concrete surface, most want to make solid contact to clear completely. Shoes, runners, and float all help to prevent digging in deeper than desired. Edges such as rubber and poly are protective of such surfaces as well. If stone, then adjust skids so the main edge rides slightly above the plowing surface.
@cwolf88414 жыл бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors Generally the blade is adjusted to be slightly above the road. Then the shoes grind against the road. There are KZbins videos of folks who added wheels. So you get good plow performance without wearing out either the blade or shoes....... plus not damaging the road. And save a lot of money. Even making your own plastic edges isn't cheap. Realizing change is scary.
