I get the appeal of hydrostatic for small acreage owners who intend to do a lot of loader work. For me though, growing up on a farm, it diminishes the tractor for 'real' tractor work, i.e. pulling tasks. The power shuttle option looks like the best compromise to me. Frankly, if I had so much loader work to do that the power shuttle wouldn't cut it, I wouldn't be buying a tractor, I'd be buying a skid steer.

Excellent explanation of the different transmission types available on compact tractors. I went to look at a John Deere 3033R at a dealership just assuming that it was hydrostatic and I had never heard of a power shuttle transmission. As soon as I found out it wasn't a hydrostatic transmission I wasn't interested in the tractor at all. Much to the salesman's credit he suggested that I really should drive it. I gave in and drove the tractor all over the dealership and I loved it, plus the fact that there wasn't that whining sound that hydros make. For me the power shuttle is the perfect transmission as long as you don't have to use the clutch to change directions. I looked at a New Holland tractor that had a shuttle shift but you had to use the clutch to change directions and I didn't like that so much!

Three years ago I upgraded from an old gear drive transmission to a hydrostatic on a new tractor. Unless I start doing a lot of plowing I don't expect to ever go back. Operating on hills is so much safer plus I am about 30% more productive when mowing, even more with the front end loader. Precision placement is much easier with the hydrostat too. On my Kubota L6060 there is a computer between the pedal and the transmission that will slow you down as necessary to keep the PTO at speed then speed back up when the load reduces. This is really useful when mowing as it lets me take advantage of all the power available without lugging the tractor or shifting gears. That adds about another 30% to productivity when mowing.

Had all three over the years and while the hydro is nice it gives up power to a direct drive tranny and has more maintenance and heat buildup, plus a manual is better on steep hills low range in rearend and 1st gear and you can craw down steep hills with no brakes.

As for the powerreverser in JD 6 and 7 families, 6 yes; 7 no. 6E's come with it as the only transmission, with an optional hi/lo 24/12. 6M gets the quad; 6R has all sorts of choices; quads, direct drive; or IVT. The 7's get a IVT or a powershift. They all get a electro-hydraulic reverser regardless. The quads are similar to the PR, just with synchronized ranges and powershift gears + other useful goodies. they're essentially next logical step forward in transmissions.

Superb comparison, courtney! I've always liked the looks and feel of my 3005, but i sure wish it had the power reverser option. Or, for that matter, the hydro. Loader work is really akward, but doable. I grew up on a golf course in the 60s, & during the growing season my dad would let me pitch in & help, cause the hired help just couldn't keep up. I had the choice of a 600 series, 800 series fords, or a new john deere 1020. I always chose the deere, loved that tractor! Long story, but my 3005 reminds me so much of that sweet ol 1020....

I have a jd4310 for 16 years. Power reverser, perfect for snowplow, mowing, tilling. Perfect control, easy reversing. Loader, iffy. Go forward, shift to low gear, push into the pile, back out, then forward easy, but then grab 1st, grab 2nd, grab 3rd, grab 4 and you're moving good to the dumpoff! Hydrostatic would probably be better. Still, I like the simpler power reverser transmission for reliability and no overheating.

You can add that powereverser modulation control to any PR tractor that doesn't have one as an option. Something to think about, if you're buying a used one, or off the dealer's lot and it doesn't have that control. The newer JD gear transmissions- the 9x3 syncro on the 5E series, for example, ARE syncronized for the gear shifts. (but not the range shifts) so you can change them 1-3 on the fly. Personally, the whine from a hydrostat drives me nuts- I'd rather have a geared tranny. My experience is with ag tractors, though. And I agree- nothing like the sound of an old school diesel tractor! The old 4020 had a heck of a bellow when you ran it up to pto speed on the grinder-mixer or silo blower!

Power reversal tractor best or non power reversar
@pyroman60002 жыл бұрын
@@Abhishek-df5tf A power reverser will make your life easier, if you intend to do work that requires you to go between forward and reverse frequently. They also have more gears, which is nice for doing work like baling- where you need to be at a fairly precise speed. They are a step up in price over a standard synchro gear drive, however. For a simple general duty work tractor, you can get along fine with that.

For 3005 bit wrong... You can change gears when riding.. but it wont be power shift... If you knowtechnique to synchronize transmission on the fly and you have quick with gear changes, than it's not a problem... Old BLR tractors newer have gear synchronizers on transmission but we still changed gears on the fly and even on some load... sometimes even L and H ranges.. But you should have good quick hands to do so and must feel the tractor.. Of course JD aren't recommend to do so...

I’m looking at a 3025e and currently my local dealer has some incentives that puts the E model cheaper than the 3025d gear model. I don’t mind shifting and plan to use it for small 5 acre plot I want to start a 1acre garden, plant some fruit trees, and other various task. If I go with the hydro transmission will I find it lacking in very many ways over the gear drive? I plan to use it to do some loader work, put a grapple on it, and use it with a finish mower to get what I can’t with my push mower.

I think that's a bit of an old school thought. Hydro transmissions are very robust and durable. Proven to last thousands of hours. If you're in a commercial operation, a hydro will last much longer than manual as you typically have multiple operators with varying levels of experience on one piece of equipment. I hear stories about operators burning up clutches in gears. Dunno. Anyone can damage anything if they try hard enough, haha!
