I could see a lot of designs in this mower that i wish my flail had on the tractor, including those big wheels vs steel runners.

Another good tool for a specific usage. Its lighter footprint allows for use in areas that have wet soil conditions much of the year. If this could be towed in an offset manner, favoring one side, it could be useful cleaning up field perimeters that a larger tractor and brush hog could not reach due to low hanging tree limbs. Nice piece of equipment, but like most tools, it has its specific applications.
@kenjackson44716 ай бұрын
The hitch is adjustable to allow for offset. 33” IIRC.

Wow. That's a pretty amazing job. It appears to outperform both a brush hog and flail.

Seems like with everything these days, extreme stocker shock! 10,000 on sale for around $8500. I was thinking a third of that cost but it is a flail. My Zero turn was in the same price range but wouldn't do as well with that tall of grass on a single pass.
@driverjamescopeland6 ай бұрын
...and this is their lower tier model. They have a better one with wheels that swing to the rear, to keep from matting down on the sides.
@Trump9855 ай бұрын
That’s outrageous, I was expecting it to be in the $2,500 range! It wouldn’t be a big project to build your own version of this, it’s all flat plate and just welded together. There isn’t any complicated or difficult fabrication involved.

It'll handle both. Last week, I mowed down plenty of woody material that was .5" to 1.25". Just don't expect to be shredding 2"+ material with it...perhaps the occasional stray, but not a full field of them.

I would really like to see how it does on the back of a compact tractor with the tires swung back to allow more precise mowing around trees. I think a flail mower is the way to go - much safer when you hit a stump or rock. Can this flail mower handle small brush? fallen branches? or would I have to go around and pickup all sticks before mowing?

Will it work on forest paths and chop up small down limbs. I have e John Deere Gator. I want to clear woods that are overgrown with multiflora rose and spice bush. Would this handle that and what do they cost?

We work about 7 acres of prairie and 5 acres of Oak Savanna... we want to mow to about 10 inches... a little higher than typical mowers. Could larger wheels be used to raise the level? Or do you have a recommendation for getting a higher mow that's more healthy for maintaining a young prairie to help the native forbs and grasses take over.

Does it offset and where can I find a dealer,thanks.

I’d say that it cuts better and faster than a brush hog. It would be interesting to see you cut that same field with a brush hog to get a real comparison.

Hello there!, I'm curious if Wessex has a Max incline for the flail mower?. I'm asking because I have some hills. They're at least a 45° incline and with the flare mower having a sump oil system. I worried that at very aggressive incline the oil and oil pan wi move to the back and not be picked up by the oil pump. Does Wessex have the max incline degree for their lower? In particular, I'm curious about the AR model, but for all models would be good to know.

How many tanks of fuel did you burn and about how large is the area you mowed?
@GoodWorksTractors6 ай бұрын
Hard to say total area as it includes trails too. Plus, I've mowed another area since that time. I'd say over 2 hours of run time and still on the same tank. Sorry, doesn't give you acreage, but it's something!

Courtney, while this is an impressive piece of equipment, I have an issue with driving over the material that is being cut. I have seen a piece of equipment that mounts to the front of an ATV. I believe it’s made in Italy. That way you don’t beat the crap out of the front of your ATV also.
@Noah_E6 ай бұрын
How fast do you mow? Most ZTMs max out at 8mph and I typically mow at less than 5mph. ATVs are designed to plow through brush at significantly higher speeds without any damage so that shouldn't be an issue. If anything I would be worried about running over something sharp and puncturing a tire when driving over material that's already been cut.
@mikestout93496 ай бұрын
@@Noah_E if you were responding to my statement, I would be mowing pretty slowly. The reason I mentioned the flail mower from Italy is because you can offset it and also raise it to a vertical cutting position. We have trails throughout our 43 acres of woods. There are many briars that from time to time grow out from the sides of the paths. The video that I watched was put on GWT’s maybe a month ago or so. I watch every video that Courtney puts on his site. I could probably go back and rewatch it as I save them all. One of these days I’m going to make it up there to the shop as I’m only 30/40 miles south of there.

It apparently does a good job of handling tall material... as a flail should.... but the finish isn't nearly as good as others I've seen in the same conditions. This includes Wessex own models designed for front mount tractors.
