Corphish actually has some really solid wins under its belt. And glalie never lost a fight after evolving without taking another mon down first.

People don't wanna see it but before Grovyle evolved into Sceptile, Swellow was the true Ace. He also after evolving never lost a fight without taking down at least one pokemon. Writes probably wanted Glalie to feel like a Hoenn ace since they made him be the star of the battle with Morrison but that came too late. Swellow was proving itself time and time again.
