With good gear catching atleast half those fish would be possible.. instead of 1 in 20.. If it was me id put out a float with a livebait.. and then throw softbaits with a treble stinger and a corckscrew jighead.. works every time.

Gotta "bow to the king" when a tarpon jumps you actually point the rod tip down towards that fish as low as you can and it keeps the line tight other wise you will lose 9/10 tarpon on a jump. They are so strong even a 10 15lb class fish will be a struggle with your gear honestly yall are doing great job I had better luck with fluorocarbon leader but good effort for sure guys.

It’s why a lot of guides in the Florida keys don’t count how many tarpon they catch but know many tarpon they hook and have jump..pretty much count the jumps cause they are that difficult to actually catch

plecos are one of those fish that people buy to clean their tank but dont realize how big they get and they release them into the wild. thats why they are so abundant in tropical waters

I’d say they are probably spawning. After they do that the female will find the narrowest hole she can wedge herself in and lay her eggs. In the aquarium hobby we place ceramic tubes for them to lay eggs in to hatch the ones you see in stores. Props to you guys for calling them armored catfish instead of “those sucker fish things” 15:39

Maybe try to thumb the reel on the initial hook set but have a loose drag so the fish can take line during the fight and hopefully not break your line

Take 30% off those hook sets and loosen your drag just a couple clicks so it doesn’t snap off the rip. Probably need heavier line but it’s for sure possible on a 40lb leader

Have to sharpen your hooks after every hookset. They will dull out the points on the hooks. Also need to up your line to atleast 60lb cause as you saw they show no mercy!
