Cheers and thanks for the refresher. For my purposes (a fly-in reference to a part of the Amazon for a documentary to send off to the VFX wizards) anywhere from 1000 m to 10,000 gives a decent overview, with an angle of view of about 65 degrees--a bit of horizon for scale and context, and a nice three-D feel.

My question has to do with a flight I took from the USA to New Zealand. I wanted to animate the journey with a line over the ocean and as a bonus, put an airplane in the video to show it's path. How can I do that?

The only way I know is create a route in your routing software, import it into GEP and play it. For the airplane you would probably have to add that in your editing software. Also, to make a movie of this route would take a very long time. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
