I just did this with my 3 XL. Took me 2 hours and I didnt break the glass. So happy. The secret is really taking your time with the back glass and using LOTS of heat. Took me an hour to get the back glass off! TAKE YOUR TIME

Thank you for posting this. Saved me a ton of money buying a new smartphone. I didn't bother detaching the fingerprint sensor though. Just had to be careful not to pull on the back cover too hard. Don't forget to test the new battery by charging the unit before screwing the right vertical plate back in! The most challenging part for me was reattaching the power connectors. You need to take your time finding the sweet spot. Don't rush it and push down forcefully or you'll smoosh the dainty little pins inside the connectors and you'll end up with a new battery in a functional phone but with dead power connectors.

Thank you. Very easy to do. Just to add, theres plenty of glue at the bottom half of the phones, you'll need to go very deep with your plastic card. Nearly all the way until the google logo at the back. If you are unsure where the glue is, just look at the phone once its opened in the video.

Quick question. If I had a skin on the back of the phone, would it be affected by the process? Like would the heat gun cause the sticker to peel off?

@@DIYGeardo thanks for your response. i ask because I recently brought my phone in for a battery replacement. it has a skin on it, and when I got it back, it didn't look like the skin was affected at all. either they did a bang up job and didn't mess with the skin at all...or they never changed out the battery and charged me $80 and did nothing.

I had the most difficulty with rejoining the connector on the fingerprint sensor cable. The stupid little plastic flipper came right off first, and it took 3 hands and a microscope to put it back on :) Note to first timers: there is a lot more adhesive than just at the edges of the back cover. Watch to the end before you begin so that you can see where the biggest adhesive patches are and then you will know how far you have to shove the credit card in to break the bonds. Use an old card and sharpen up the edge a bit, and it will work with less force applied. There is one shorter screw and three longer screws. The shorter one goes in the second hole from the bottom I believe, as the threads come right up to the top of that hole.

@sighsoflife Жыл бұрын
The fingerprint sensor cable attachment point needs more detail for disconnecting and reconnecting. When reattaching it I could not tell it was actually securely connected and only the yellow tape seems to hold it in the area. No click into place or anything I could see so I am not sure it will work anymore. But at least the battery is charging after replacing the swollen old battery. :)
@alenavass24 жыл бұрын
I saw when you removed the old battery it was slightly bent on one side. Is this dangerous and can this damage the battery?
@DIYGeardo4 жыл бұрын
Removing pixel battery is a little bit tough. The glue is strong, Need to apply some heat and pry it to take it out. If you are replacing the battery, you do not have to worry about the old battery, but still, you can use it if there is a slight bend. just make it straight. Always make sure to turn off the phone and disconnect the battery plug.

First check the connection on finger print sensor, and second check any damages to the cable (pins), try to replace new part and see the outcome. I mean these are the things you can try. I believe loose connection or damage to the flex
