As a Pixel 4a owner, the call quality is completely fine, nothing of issue to report. (Using Fi Unlimited for the carrier.)

I don't even care that it's a 'budget phone' money is no problem for me. I just want a smaller phone with the best camera that isn't an iPhone. Options are that limited on android. This is it. The Sony compact line has been dead far to long. I'd go with the s10e for wireless charging but the camera and battery are lacking from the research I've done. Maybe you can do a video on that.

I was also looking at that phone vs pixel 4a because they are similar size and price right now. The Samsung is also supposedly getting updates through Android 12 (not entirely sure about that), while the pixel will get through Android 13. I personally am leaning towards the pixel because it will have support for longer and when it stops getting updates from Google, it has an unlocked bootloader for custom ROMs, unlike the Samsung (snapdragon version). The custom ROMs can get you another year or so of updates.

@@s2dmax I went with the pixel. Better Google assistant and the supposed better battery life / camera which are my two most important features won me over. I want wireless charging but it's not worth sacrificing the other things.

I guess I should add that updates aren't everything. I am using my Moto G5 Plus (4Gb RAM/64Gb storage) that is still running Android 8.1 and it still works with most apps and it only recently started showing its age.

@@s2dmax Don't worry about updates on Samsung, they announced they're giving 3 years to every flagship that came out after the normal S10 and also some phones from the A lineup. Google better step their game up. I already pre-ordered the Pixel, tho.

Hi, you have great reviews! Please tell me why reviewers, when talking about a display, never check PWM (pulse-width modulation). Today, manufacturers mainly install oled displays, which often have a high PWM, which can cause pain in the eyes and headaches for the owners of these devices. Chinese manufacturers have started to build DC DIMMING, but unfortunately Google hasn't.

If you're happy enough with your 3a, you could wait for the 5a. As long as there's no more major delays, the 5a should release in May next year. Since the Pixel 5 is rumoured to be a midrange device anyway, it might not be a big enough upgrade to be worth switching to, especially since the price is supposedly going to be in the $600 range. Unless you really want the edge-to-edge screen, I don't think you'll be gaining much by upgrading to a Pixel 4a or 4a 5G either. It's your choice though. It's just that I'd probably hold off from upgrading if I was in the same scenario as you.

You should upgrade based on the state of the phone.

I'd upgrade if the 3a feels too sluggish for you or you want the smaller form factor. Otherwise, Google keeps up with the software updates quite well and you won't really miss out on much with your 3a. (Google Store will also give you some money for your 3a as a trade-in, and that will probably lower after the Pixel 5 releases, so keep that in mind.)

Yes by miles, regularly you will get a 6+ hours consistently where as iphone SE will give you 4:30 to 4:45 hours

ArieL D se2 has a 2017 premium lcd display while pixel 4a has a 2020 mid-range oled display. Display capabilities on both phone are basically the same, despite oled has some advantages against lcd. Further more, pixel 4a owns a 1080p oled, but pentile makes ppi loss nearly 20%, which means 443 ppi on pixel 4a equals to 35x ppi. If you claim that display is very bad on se2, then pixel 4a will be called a little bad display.

The Pixel 5 will be have a 6.67 in. display. Update the most recent leak says the P5 will have a 6 inch display, and the 4a 5g will have the bigger display. Who knows?

New leak also says it has a smaller battery than the 4a, bigger screen, and 120 hz refresh rate...doesn't add up. I'll wait until they release official details.

Why do u think the time and battery % on the notification bar was brought slightly down instead further up the screen?

The center of the hole punch camera is aligned with the center of the notification bar. I'm guessing that's why it was done. (Also, it allows taller notification icons to not feel like they're sticking out way below everything else, but that's just personal preference.)

I've never heard of the 3a doing that. Weird. I've been using the 4a for a few days, including some heavier games, and have no issues to report regarding heating. It gets warm, like any phone, but not to the point of being unpleasant, nor has it ever actually turned off.

but in the real world you can buy a 4 or xl used /new on selling sites for not a great deal more than the 4a, ip68, better quality screen, snapdragon 855, wireless charging, slightly better and quicker photos, personally I hate punch holes on screens... sooner a bezel but full screen any day. Also that black colour looks so bland and boring. Update... I brought a mint condition pixel 4xl in the UK for £400...the 4a here is £349. £51 extra for so much more.

My experience so far with the pixel 4a has been somewhat lukewarm. As a previous pixel 3a user I guess I was expecting everything to be just better but that wasn't exactly the case. Even though the selfie cam is supposed to be the same between the two models the 3a always edged out the 4a with clearer and more color accurate photos. Another issue I had was the main camera on the 4a is more prone to picking up light glare in dark photos. And finally the speakers in the 4A are not as loud or bassy as the 3a. I've also come across an issue where the screen went black on me and I couldn't get the screen to turn back on (full battery). Also if you order a screen protector that doesn't have the cut out for the camera you will have issues. The front camera is slightly inset so you end up with a bubble where the camera is, this will further impact selfie photos.

I have yet to have any of these issues with the 4a, I wonder if your particular unit has hardware defects. Google doesn't have the best track record on that front, but you can exchange it quite easily.

At the same time, I've never used a power button fingerprint scanner that reliably worked the first time, especially if you use a slightly different part of your finger than normal. The smaller contact area is an inherent disadvantage.
