If you mean fragility = expensive & premium then imo, you lack in common sense. Tbh i wish phones manufacturers stop forcing the idea that glass is the better option, like the past with them trying to outdo each other with them design instead of making the filmsy material looks even more shiny with them gradients & charge you unnecessarily when it broke. Premium = durable material.

I'm sure the S10e is a great phone, but I got the Pixel and it's pretty fantastic. I started to add Nova and some other apps to customize it further, but quickly realized how much I liked the original Pixel launcher so much more after even only a couple of days.

@@elijah4168 S10 Lite will also get 3 years of major Android updates. Note10 Lite too. A51 and A71 too. Lite or not, S10 Lite and Note10 Lite are from S10 and Note10 series. They won't treat them worse. Actually they rolled out Note20 Ultra software One UI 2.5 really quick to their older phones.

can we really say these phones are at the same price point though? Sure, the s10e can be had for under $400 if you are going refurbished, but retail for a new s10e is still in the neighborhood of $600. For the sake of comparison it should still be stated that you are comparing a $350 pixel to a $600 s10e. $250 price difference is pretty huge when considering "budget" phones. Otherwise spot on review/comparison.

Great review Nick! I'm fortunate in that I have both. I love the form factor. I was able to get my 4a for about $200 because I traded in my Pixel 3 and Google gave me $163 trade in. The 3 is a great phone but I got tired of the forehead and chin. The s10e goes really well with my Samsung smartwatch. I haven't used Samsung phones since note 3 and the software has greatly improved making it VERY customizable . Love them both for very different reasons

Its all about the software imo. Do you want every feature imaginable or do you want a subdued blank stock experience. I have an s20 and im definitely gonna try the 4a. Honestly I really miss the speed of having the fingerprint sensor on the back and the ability to swipe down to check the notifications.

Well, to be honest I don’t really like the swipe down feature because I used to have a galaxy a20 and while gaming my finger would swipe on the fingerprint sensor and the menu would come down and I would get killed in the game.

My wife has the S10e which she loves. For a Samsung phone running Android, it's a pretty nice phone. The size is about perfect. However, I think battery life is a bit lacking. It doesn't last nearly as long as my iPhone XR. The way my wife uses her phone, the Pixel 4A would be perfectly fine.

Bit of an unfair comparison when factoring in price, Samsung definitely takes it in raw specs, but I greatly prefer the Pixel's camera, great software and overall experience. Also being the first to get updates is choice. Waiting on the slightly boosted specs from the pixel 5 and it will likely be a cheaper phone as well but with more features and longevity. Will have to wait and see, if this is not the case I will pick up a 4a for sure. Once you use pixels for a while it's hard to go back to other manufacturers with different firmware and etc. Like I said imo Pixel is the best Android experience

You can get a used 10e for around $350-400 on ebay. The extra $50 gets you a dual rear camera, much faster processor, more durable screen, water resistance. I think they're totally comparable and I'm struggling which to buy.

@@nickackermanchannel One UI 2.5 is an optimization and features update from Note20 series to S20, S10, S9, Note9 and Note10 series. It's not Android 11 it's still Android 10. But I heard that One UI 2.5 update has made phones even more fluid and better.

in my opinion you forgot a very important point: Because the S10e is already 1.5 years old, you get 1.5 years longer software support on the Pixel. I suppose the S10e will be out of support by the end of next year. The Pixel will go up until Android 13.

GEMain oops, my s10e issues was: 1) people couldn’t hear me on speakerphone, always sounded muffled to people. 2) GPS issues, had this on S8 and 9 as well. Wouldn’t even be moving and would randomly get “GPS signal lost” - gotta be careful with that one, it may stop updating navigation while you’re using maps 3) Bluetooth, always disconnecting or taking too long to connect. Big issues, but the phone was perfect other than that.

I pick up my unlocked 4a on Sept 18th from Best Buy. had to wait 17 days...even Google Store isn't that fast. Google Store has a few accessories though, like the wired buds and a spare fast charger. Anker has the car plug/charger. Do I need a case? What do you suggest??

Little confused as in UK galaxy s10e still retailing at £500 compared to 4a £350?...also we are comparing a once flagship Samsung v a mid range phone by Google?....in my opinion the Samsung has to be better as it's simply got more under the bonnet & more features etc as it was once a flagship..The Google on the other hand is pure android with no bloatware & frills (less is more & Google pixel 4a have nailed it in my opinion)....

How important in practice, do you feel immediate Google updates are?? I understand Samsung is more of a “buy a new one every year to stay current” kind of company, with plenty of lags, location specific rolling releases, etc.

At 3:58 "You can tweak the display to your liking". Sorry? You only have two or three options for the colors (without even an explanation of what each setting does). This is so limited that it can hardly be called tweaking to the user liking. In terms of pixel density (2:30), the simple fact that the S10e has a lower PPI does not mean that the user is going to notice anything. The gap is so small (438 vs 443), and the density is already so high.

Both these phones are some of the best for price but I'd still stick with Samsung. I own a Galaxy S7 bought new in April 2016 and the thing is mint and still runs like a beast. Does everything perfectly, it's fast, absolutely incredible screen, awesome camera and video. Oh, and it makes and receives calls crystal clear every time. It is a phone after all. 😄 I can't justify replacing it.. Not yet. 😎👍

I still have my s7 too but I take so many pictures and have so many apps that need updating that it is constantly telling me I need to clear the cache or I don't have enough storage even though I have a SD card in it. Help?

I would say 137-140 highness, it would be perfect for a phone, I had Sony Xperia x compact and it's wonderful for daily usage, then I tried 4a I didn't like it and now I'm with a s10e, waiting for s23 being at 250 in a future..

I bought an s10e since it launched and after only 1 1/2 years of owning it i bought a new 4a. I loved my s10e for the first six months, but the battery life went down hill. Now, I find my self looking for a charger 2-3 times A DAY. And not being a power user, it's very disappointing. it's the equivalent of having an unreliable car😂 I find my phone dying at the most inconvenient times. I planned on keeping my s10e for at least 3 years, but it honestly isn't possible. Although it's a great phone I would not recommend it to anyone because of that one flaw.

S10e. MicroSd card, Water and dust resistant and Ultrawide lense though the camera on the 4a is better. I also prefer that mate plastic back. I don't consider phones with glass back to be more "premium".

I picked up my like new/refurb s10e earlier this year for $400 so it's a reasonable comparison. Love the size, the design, the re-mapable bixby button is quite handy. Samsung bloat and redundant apps are a small annoyance but overall a great phone.

I've realised how Samsung fans genuinely believe a over saturated picture is better than a neutral colour coded picture. It's a wide known fact pixel phones have the best camera system out of all phones. They were the first ones who started the big camera competition with the release of pixel 1. No other phone came close.it took Samsung 2 generations to finally catch up

I had the option to have both devices and I chose Pixel 4a and the reason is a pure android. Besides, as a European, I only had Samsung available with only an exynox processor, and it is much worse in terms of both consumption and performance. Another advantage of Pixel is the Lipol battery. Lipols have a slightly smaller capacity for the same volume as the Lion, but a much longer lifespan. The quality of local networks and the frequencies used have a great influence on the battery life. My Pixel always lasts 2 days on one charge! Yes 2 days and could be even 3, but I keep batery between 40 and 90% :)

I picked the 4a. I'm a little salty with Samsung right now for putting ads on the weather and music apps! I had an S9 and the only thing I miss is the wireless charging.

@bob jones I guess my point is that Samsung is the number 1 smartphone seller in the world, they don't need to put ads in their apps. Especially if you pay 1k for their phone. I use other apps that don't have ads in them. It just makes me upset that samsung would stoop to that level.

Trying to decide between these two. A big kicker for me is the esim support on pixel since I live abroad and have a US number and a local sim. Dual sim on the 10e would be viable too if I could find it. 4k video isn't a big deal to me since I don't own a single 4k tv or monitor and our internet here would take days to upload anything in 4k. Feel, etc. Again irrelevant because I use screen protectors and cases no matter what. I like that the Samsung has the better specs, but I'm iffy on certified renewed phones since any phone I get, I'll have to get abroad and bring here, so returns are really expensive shipping-wise. I'm leaning towards the pixel for the updates and stock Android.

Great video comparison of the 2 phones I was choosing between but I ended up getting the s10e because it has true DUAL SIM compared to fake e-sim of pixel 4a. Also I have to differ with you Nick on the SOUND as according to all my research the Speakers on the S10e are superior to the Pixel 4a. Even your puny sound review here on this video showed the s10e having stronger and richer sound than the pixel ! Other than that google has finally done an awesome job on creating an excellent phone packed with the basic features that people love for an awesome price!
