So far, so good. It is an amazing phone for the price, especially the camera. Pretty much stock Android 11 w/ 12 on the way. Another bonus - wi-fi calling with an unlocked phone. Seems to work very well.

At 399$ is the best offer U can get! I would point out as a miss not the 90Hz refresh rate display as #1 miss, but the lack of an sd card, and an extra 2Gb of RAM on the #1 spot. After that a better SoC and the 90Hz refresh rate as #2. All the other stuff at the end! I'm curios why not a 5000mAh battery? A very good phone overall!

I'm sporting a Pixel 4a and I love it ... I also have the Apple 11maxPro...I like the Pixel better on a lot of fronts... some of it is that I am sick of the dang Apple lock-downs. Android 11 has been a joy to use.

I've never had a Pixel before but I just bought this to replace my Motorola G Power (2020) on Google Fi. It's seems like a great mid-range phone. My main reason above everything else for getting a Pixel is the clean vanilla o/s with no bloatware. Motorola has very little bloatware as well but they don't have any good mid-range phones right now.

When my LG phone wouldn't do calls I picked up a Motorola Moto G power (2021) for $200. It is going back where it came from. The Moto G Power is nice for the price and works well as a phone, but I'm not impressed with the screen or camera.

For the money the Pixel 5a 5G is a winner. I own the Pixel 5. I live in Canada, so the next Pixels to look forward to here are the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 PRO. For $449 you get a proper speaker for true stereo sound. That is my only complaint for the Pixel 5. You also get IP67 water and dust resistance which for myself is essential. I wouldn't want to pay several hundred dollars for a cellular phone that could be rendered useless if it got wet. So for myself IP67 water and dust Resistance is a great perk especially at this price point. And the headphone jack is a nice bonus for anyone who wants to use it. The over 4600 mAH battery and larger 6.34 inch screen combined with the energy saving 765G processor and the Android battery saver mode translates into a great viewing experience with long battery life. Already with my Pixel 5 I get a full day of use, but I would always welcome a larger battery and the Pixel 5a 5G delivers and again at the $449 price point. And in consideration of the same good camera, stock Android 11 with 3 years of updates, and software perks such as, call screen, spam call notification or blocking, and in America the Hold For Me and car crash detection/emergency help software features this Pixel 5a 5G delivers HUGE value at an affordable price. It's a mid range cellular phone WINNER 🏆.

Got mine last week also!! Its awesome!!!!!! I don't see why people think the 765g chipset is a problem It works just fine. You don't always need the newest thing... Plus what chipset do you expect from a $500 phone made for daily use?? I feel like some of them are just salty that it didn't come to their country 🤔

Ha - After three years my LG G7+ Thinq decided it didn't want to do phone calls anymore (It still did text & data fine). With this happening and LG dropping the mobile phone biz it was time to look somewhere else. My wife has the iPhone 12 and I'm used to spending $800+ on a phone for myself. In this case with the Google Pixel 5a it doesn't look like I have to. This does everything I want w/o spending that much. Big deal about 60 Hz, I do any gaming on a PC with a 144hz refresh rate. This decision was a no brainer.

Everybody talking about a higher refresh rate, but the thing is for oled panels the refresh rates doesn't affect so much. For the LCD panels it affect and still the iPhone 11, a flagship doesn't have 90 or 120hz. So don't worry about the refresh rate if you're not a high end gamer. 👍

It would be really interesting to see how this phone compares to the Moto Edge 20. I hear there is some weird controversy going on with the Moto Edge 20 Global (or maybe a US) variant, that it has inferior specs and higher price when compared to the India variant of the phone, which at least on paper, seems like it alone can bring Motorola back to the top spot.

If you don't care about refresh rate, Pixel 5a easily FTW. It has way better camera than anything under $500, slightly more powerful Snapdragon 765 (vs 750 in Samsung) and clean stock Android with instant update. The close runner up would be A52 5G and distant third is Nord. My 2 cents ...

@@NathanCE Samsung actually has improved leap and bound in terms of software update, in fact they're still the longest security update provider in Android atm, yes even longer than Pixel, 4 years to be exact and the update received pretty quick, about on par with Pixel too. My mom's A52 4G has been consistently received monthly patch which is great sign 👍🏼

I enjoyed the review! The part where I had to stop and comment was the suggestion that Pixels are known for "stellar" battery life - come on now, they've been either average (Pixel 1, 2, 3) or awful (Pixel 4). I'm really glad they've gone with something beefy here, I'm sure it will clock in well. Let's hope the 6 has a battery size to match, or larger to accommodate the higher spec.

I ordered a Pixel 4 a on 8/16 and freaking Google announces the 5a the next day. Cost me a $35 restock charge to return the other and get the 5a. Received the 5a in a smushed box and the 5g service doesn't even work. I get 0.6 Mbps. Opened support tickets with T-Mobile and Google - no luck. Phone is nice (heavy) but connectivity is important. Numerous calls to both parties and they couldn't get LTE or 5G working. Maybe I got a lemon. Not happy with the Pixel 5a right now at all. Great in paper, but not in real life.

This is a prime example of what is commonly known as a deal killer! Nearly everything about this phone is great, especially at the price, but the 60hz refresh rate will not do, not in this day and age! I just can't understand not incorporating at least a 90 refresh rate, which would be ample enough for this phone to be an awesome device, again at this price! Just a shame!

I guess my point was that here in late 2021, new phones (especially mid-rage and flagships) should all come equipped with at least a 90hz refresh rate! New apps, games, etc. are getting more technically advanced and the basic 60hz just can't handle them efficiently!

Not interested in over 6" screen. The majority doesn't need 5g. Nobody really needs metal body (more as 80% of Pixel users uses case for phone). 4a size, 765g CPU, better IP rating, better battery, keep the price on 350$ and sell it globally (including Google services).
