I've had mine barely a week and it overheats badly. Playing Pokémon Go for 20 minutes outside causes the CPU to heat up to 98° easily. Definitely too hot. Another problem is the display having a green tint in lower brightness, makes the screen look horrible and cheap. Worse yet is their customer service saying this is normal. If I can't get this phone either replaced or warrantied, I cannot recommend it as a daily driver. This makes me really concerned for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

7:35 I don't get why you're complaining about the refresh rate. The 90 Hertz was a feature saved for their flagship phone. So why would someone buy a budget phone expecting this feature??

I really want the pixel5a since my 3a class finally die. But the galaxy 52 5g only 50$ more and come with the 120hz display. I want to try out the 5a but the only way to get it is on Google store and there a 30$ restock fee if I decide to return it.

I’m a 2xl owner and cleared out unused apps/pics/junk overall after a couple years. I’ve turned my phone off to let it reset for 30 seconds and turned it back on 5x’s (to let it reset and trash stuff) … and its working like a champ, A CHAMP. I’ll get the 5a eventually for the 5G, but for now, my 4 year old phone is doing really well once I deleted a bunch of junk I don’t use. (I don’t game or shoot video normally*)

@@JSLReview I just got my Pixel 5A a couple of days ago. The screen is only OK. It doesn't look as sharp or bright as my old Moto X4 (which was an IPS LCD with a higher pixel density than this one) and my old Nexus 5's screen was better than the X4's, The battery life has also been just OK so far. The camera is annoyingly close to the bezel, so I keep seeing my fingers in landscape (the X4 had a nice centrally positioned camera). The phone is fairly thick, but although taller it is not any wider than my X4. The dual speakers are not forward firing, but they sound much better than mono. Build quality seems fine (the phone had been sitting in a cold FedEx truck before delivery, and there was no doubting the fact that it's made of metal under that coating) but the color is closer to olive drab than black. Between the muted screen, the conventional shape, and the subdued color, the phone looks rather dull, to be honest. I set up the phone while it was running Android 11, which seemed very straightforward. Then I updated to12. Ugh! The quick settings are horrible. The buttons are oversized and only 4 are visible at once, yet they are harder to parse (being mostly text rather than symbols). Toggling the WiFi and mobile data is now a laborious two step process that requires me to use my reading glasses. WHY?? And that lock screen clock?! Makes me appreciate the aesthetics of my old Moto X4. One neat feature is that you can set it up so that tapping the back of the phone twice opens any app you assign to the feature. Cool, although you have to wake up the phone first?? But how did they not offer the flashlight as one of the potential apps to link to it??? One bug is that the Night Light feature keeps activating even though I turned it off. Apparently you have to go into the scheduler as well, and select "none:" Very poor software design there.

I have owned this phone for over a month, I traded in my previous 2XL and got $54 for it so net cost was less than $400 for this phone. I love it, the gestures interface has been a steep learning curve. I am a senior male so one hand operation is not a big deal for me.

I'm that majority of people that don't need bleeding edge. I was lucky to grab one of the very last available Pixel FOUR-a ($350) in early September (2021) just before Google ran out. A great step up from my old Moto G5 Plus.

Great review! Now the reason that they did not do a high refresh rate was to be able to sell the 6 and 6 pro more. This phone was just a yearly update. They don't want this to sell better than the new 6 and 6 pro. Handicapped just because which is sad because 90hz would be awesome. Once again, wonderful review!

I have the pixel 5A and having some inconsistencies when charging it, sometimes it takes awhile before it says charging, sometimes i have to unplug and plug to make it charge, but im pretty certain this is software and not hardware. Anyone noticed it too?

apparently it's only when you're recording 4k 60 fps. Unless that's your thing (which it is you should really get an actual camera) i don't think it would be that much of an issue

I got the Pixel 5a because I prefer a capacitive fingerprint reader in the proper ergonomic position on the back. I still don't understand why Google went with a behind-screen reader on their Pixel 6 series. Why, Google? You know this technology is inferior to capacitive readers, even though it's more expensive.

@@duckey6806 It's fine, but I actually miss my old 3a sometimes. I could always zoom videos to completely fill the screen on my 3a, but for some reason this often doesn't work on the 5a (it only zooms in partially, just enough to see the camera punch hole but not zoomed in enough to completely fill the screen). Weird and annoying. It also tends to run pretty hot and apps crash more often than they did on my old 3a. But it was basically worth it for the battery and speed upgrade.
