Exactly. Im super happy with my 4a even after almost 1 year of use it feel completely new. Some phones died on me after 1year. Ill for sure stick with the A-Series. Next phone ill buy will be the 6a if they going to release it. The only reason why is skip the 5a is because my 4a is still working so well. The only think that is missing for me is a Pixel watch.

Yes. agreed. I first tried the Pixel 3A after having the Pixel 2 And loved it as a budget phone. It did everything better than the Pixel 2 did. Later upgraded to Pixel 4A which I have now for the 128gb storage! I think I'll always stick with the A series.

I feel like they removed the laser autofocus to cut off those $50 so they can reserve that feature for the more expensive 6 models, and then being able to launch a new 6A model with Tensor in the future adding those $50 back to the price, or even $100 dollars and still make it cheaper than the 6

The reason they're able to cut price is because it never costed as much as to go for $500 in the first place. The 2020 releases included at $350 Pixel 4a and an upgraded version of that, which they really needed to separate in price, so that people looking to buy the 4a wouldn't look at a $450 Pixel 4a 5G and struggle to pick which one to buy, only to end up looking for alternatives to Pixel. When there's multiple offerings, there is always price separation, which doesn't have to reflect the manufacturing costs at all.

@@braydenkenney3313 I hear the wireless charging perk but with my Pixel 5 the battery is so big that even with a Google wireless charger it will take over an hour and a half to charge from about 25%. It's still nice for a few minutes here and there like eating dinner and taking a shower, and the reverse wireless charging is nice too, but since my 5 I have used wired charging much more often than with my 3 before it.

The Pixel 4a was my perfect phone, if it had water resistance. The Pixel 5a has water resistance, and doesn't cost me leventy billion dollars. I ordered it immediately, already have received it and migrated. Couldn't be happier. My phone is a utility, not a toy. Even as a tech person, I no longer care about the "latest and greatest" specs. I care about stability, reliability, a good name, and good support.

If the 5a was the 6a, I'd happily get it. My contract ends in October though so the 5a will just be a bit too old for me to commit to on a new contract. My 4a has been great, less powerful, worse battery and slower than my OnePlus 5T was, but it's all I really look for in a phone. Runs well, great camera and gets updates. The latter two the OnePlus failed on. My 4a has had its own hiccups though and I don't like it. It's fine 90% of the time but I have to restart it every now and then and the RAM is noticeable. I'm kinda stuck because I don't like what they're gonna do with the 6a so I don't know what brand or phone I'll go with.

To me the a series have always felt like the most "google" of of all of their phones. The colorful pastels, the matte finishes, simple design, it all really stands out in today's landscape of ultra sleek glass sandwiches. I hope they keep that alive

Yea , that's how I feel about most of Google's products tbh. They are different than the crowd and the a series has just been the best fr. My favorite back of a pixel was the 3 / 3a with that single camera setup and the not pink color 😩. Good thing I was able to get a nice case with my 5a . And on another note google makes the best cases for it's phones. No company comes close to that

Even with a matte finish or simple metal back, I do wish they had a wider range of colours to liven it up a bit. Sometimes their design choices don’t feel very considered and feels like they’re using excess stock of whatever colour thermoplastic they have left be it black or greenish black

This is a bummer for me as I just got a 4a 5g for a higher price a couple of weeks ago, and would definitely preferred going with this new option as per the extended battery mostly. Overall, it's a decent upgrade in the Google lineup, not affecting the upcoming model IMO.

I'm currently using the Pixel 4a 5G and there are things that are frustrating about it. Especially the overheating issue when livestreaming or just living in California during the summer. So the Pixel 6 sounds really tempting. Even this 5a sounds tempting cuz of the bigger battery and waterproofing. Have had my new 5a for less than a week, and so far so very good. It seems plenty snappy in real use vs the chip spec, it feels extremely solid, screen performance is very nice but 90Hz would have been great... Maybe a bit pricey, but I love getting software updates the day they drop and the huge battery is nice too. Seems a sweet spot at the price/performance ratio. I imagine the new 6 series will be bonkers good.

If it was the regular 4a body that had that treatment, I would have loved this. But the 5G variant (and so the 5A) are too big. The 4A and 5 were so tiny in the hand it was so great. And the 6 and 6 Pro will also be pretty big phones... I'm really disappointed, I expected Google to be the one doing more compact phones after all the other manufacturers stopped doing them...

I daily drive a Pixel 4a5G as one of my phones...at first I regretted upgrading from the 3aXL for various issues, but now that the latest Android 12 beta is more stable I like it a lot more and while for $50 less you get a larger battery w/ the 5a it definitely seems like I won't be wanting/needing to upgrade my pixel until next yr when the 6a releases, hopefully.

“Bigger screen, same PPI” 🤔 I think the ways they improved are far more useful than CPU. Water resistance and a huge battery bump are far more important in this segment IMO.

True they don't need a better CPU, water resistance is very nice to have, especially if you have experience drowning a pixel 4a like someone... Anyways better battery is always a plus, although I wish they added 90hz instead of changing plastic and color

I have the 4a 5g. Battery is more than enough for 1 day, water resistance is hardly a must have (my previous 2 phones were water resistant, and I haven't used that feature once). Google can afford to launch a piece of 💩 the fanboys will praise it anyway ))

You say like not seeing a design change is a bad thing, except it's often quite the opposite. When you have a great design that feels good in the hand, why bother changing it. Just so people know you're not a peasant running around with last gen? Because that's the only valid reason I can think of why one would change a perfectly good design.

I have to agree with that, even though I love the new Pixel 6 design the older Pixels settled on a very pleasant design that worked and wasn't fussy. I've used my Pixel 2 for so long because it just worked and I was very tempted to get a Pixel 5 or 5A before they quietly discontinued everything but the non 5G 4A in preparation for the Pixel 6 launch.

It looks like the borders of the screen are the only thing that's changed I think the phones are still the same size. If you look at the video the top and bottom borders on the 4a 5G look more chungus.

The only attraction Pixel phones held was the fact that they offered unlimited original quality photo uploads. Especially the first Pixel. After that they started having a time frame on original quality uploads going Pixel 2 and forward. Once that time frame ended you could still upload at high quality/storage saver mode for life of the phone. This was also unlimited. The Pixel 5 was the last phone to carry the unlimited high quality/storage saver upload option. Going forward no future Pixels carry this feature including the 5a. The Pixel 4a 5G is more expensive but you are getting more features from your 4a 5G than from the 5a. Especially considering both have the same hardware. A lot of people might not care about unlimited storage saver/high quality uploads but keep in mind storage saver option compresses your photos to 16 megapixels and videos to 1080p. A lot of phones including Pixels still have 12mpx max resolution and 1080p is pretty good especially when you are getting unlimited uploads. Keep in mind that the 4a $349 model also includes unlimited photos and videos high quality/storage saver uploads for life. Since the end of unlimited Google photo uploads especially on the Pixels I would prefer going with a OnePlus, Motorola, TCL or even a Samsung instead of overpaying for Pixel phone with outdated hardware.

I love my 3A. Battery life, water proofing, and cost while maintaining the headphone jack means I'll strongly consider this phone soon.
