Apple does the same thing and is sometimes late to the game but people keep giving Apple a pass. A lot of android phones have features for years that Apple just implemented

My Pixel 4 XL has been such a pig in a couple areas that I'm not sure I trust the brand any more. 1 - speaker distortion. I keep the volume low as I'm scared to death of the distortion that happens down the road. It's not the speakers, but it's the motherboard; but alas, the distortion came came back on the replacement phone (new) as well. 2 - Software-wise, even things like answering a phone call, the phone will either give the green circle to swipe up, and another call from the same person minutes later will give three squares at the top as to which option of answering to choose, would like more consistency. 3 - The display doesn't always turn off when holding the phone to my ear to use, causing the phone to do a bunch of crazy things while I'm just talking on the phone. Just a few of the gripes. For such a lot of money, all of this sales "jargon" I'm hearing (they're telling us what we want to hear) just isn't doing it for me. I'll look at the 6 in a few weeks with an open mind, but am hesitant with the brand overall.

So after reading your comment I'm sorry you received such a bad phone. I just wanted to say that when mass producing of any electronic there are going to be some duds. my first pixel was a 3xl. I had been on the Samsung kick for years and they make a great device as well. But I felt like the OS overlay for me was just too much already on top of the Android OS. I have been a phone repair tech for many years and have sampled almost everything out there including Apple devices, which are great too. But in my opinion I think and feel like these phones are def some of the best in the business. One they always get the very first look at the newest version of android and what it has to offer second the raw version instead of the overlays that other companies offer is a much smoother and joyful experience. third the innovations on the camera software even the pixel 5 at its price point is bar none. And last the actual hardware that they choose to use rather than just putting in the latest and greatest performs as intended for the device keeping it affordable for the public bc 1000+ dollars for a phone is just ridiculous to me personally. Id give them a second chance for sure seeing that this thing looks like a total performer in my opinion. If you happen to get a dud again just make sure you have that good old insurance. Hope you read this in a positive influence and and individual just trying to point you in the right direction based of my experience and knowledge in the industry.

@@kriszuhcali That you for your detailed and thoughtful reply, I appreciate it. I am in a quandary about what to do, but I know you are absolutely correct. I am quite leery that this is my 2nd Pixel 4 XL that has done the same thing, and I know from the first one the sound will just continue to get worse. I'm also quite disappointed that the Pixel 6 Pro has got speakers that are more in line with sound quality of the Samsung A20 budget line, and not even close to the S21 Ultra, let alone the iPhone 13 Pro. For a "flagship" phone, you'd think Google could up their game in the audio quality department. I still haven't found any reviews covering what the phone is actually supposed to do; make phone calls! The 4Xl is good for phone calls, but the sound is so minutely "pinpoint" what even the slightest millimeter off, and you can't hear the person on the other end, and I have to constantly shift the phone to bring them back. I'm not a fan of speaker phone, but then with my phone I can't understand them anyway because of all of the distortion from my "drive-in movie" "hang on the window" speakers that my phone has. I can't afford to do anything until February or March so I've got time to let them get things sorted and to make a decision. Regardless, I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. Thank you!

Welcome I'm currently using the 4xl as well and my ear speaker at the top sometimes sounds crazy but I realized the screen on it was just dirty I cleaned it with some rubbing alcohol and a qtip lightly saturated and it fixed my prob. I can't necessarily diagnose yours. But typically use and pocket time speaker covers get dirty. I had the s20 ultra and decided to go back and get the Google phone and I don't regret it.

@@kriszuhcali Thanks for your reply! My phone problem is different. On my first 4 XL with this same problem, both speakers were replaced and it changed nothing. Then the repair place replaced the motherboard, and that fixed the problem. Although the problem came back just as the first one did. Google replaced my phone with a brand new one and it's doing the same thing. It sucks as I don't even use the darned phone very much. It sits on my desk or nightstand most of the time. I don't even take it outdoors if I'm doing yard work. I won't even touch the phone if I'm sweating from being outdoors, I have a land line with a rugged Panasonic cordless phone for that. I use the Pixel phone for phone calls and light texting. I do use the navigation regularly as I end up going places I've never been (within my county). I have to have the volume turned up to about 90% on the navigation to hear it (bottom speaker) and that's what angers that speaker and ends up distorting badly and gets worse to the point I have no idea what it's even saying. The top speaker does it with music. I never use the phone for music outdoors. I only play a song or two on nights when I can't get to sleep and my computer is turned off. So the volume is set very low. So I don't get it. I don't watch videos, game with it or play music outdoors; I never push this phone hard, so that's why I'm so utterly disgusted with the phone. On regular phone calls, the volume is up to 50-60%. I'm still leaning towards the Pixel 6 Pro next year over the S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max even though they have more proprietary hardware versus the Pixel Phones. The Pixels are more of a Frankenstein phone put together from a mixture of who knows whose parts and they always keep it a big secret who built the phone, whereas in the past has been LG, HTC and FoxxCon, but who knows on the new ones. The 13 Pro Max without a doubt has the best speakers out of any phone today; but I don't think I could handle the switchover. I've had Samsung in the past and it can get frustrating with their overlay, but the S21 Ultra does have considerably better speakers than the Pixel 6 Pro. I'm disappointed that for all of the money Google wants for their silly phone, that they couldn't put more "premium" parts in with more robust audio into them. But I won't deny the Pixel 4 XL has been a fairly decent Android experience until they ruined a bunch of things with Android 12; such as the "HUGE" options buttons (wi-fi, fashlight, etc.) and the HUGE calculator buttons and the thing "nagging" me three times just to look at a freakin' picture on Google Photos (search inside screenshot), (copy text from image) and (move to archive)! But I guess when things looked and worked better, the "kids" at Google thought that particular look was probably "so last week". So no, I don't appreciate the constant drastic changes that I figure are used to keep the phone zombies entertained. OK, end of rant. Thank you for hearing me out.

Videos like this never address what the phone is actually originally intended to be used for. What about call quality? Can you understand the person on the other end, and can they understand you clearly? Let's address some more of the basics!

It's obvious that Google is trying to emulate Apple's event style and presentation. It's a bit awkward but it'll get there. At least Google is starting to understand the importance of doing everything in-house while trying to create an ecosystem that benefits all users of Google's products and services. Even though I'm vested in Apple's ecosystem, I (more or less) approve of this event. 👍🏽
