My understanding is that although the sensor, and processor are new, the camera algorithm is not much different than earlier Pixels. The expectation is that they will be working on the software processing to "unlock" the new potential of the hardware.

@@yousefalsammarraie4020 it'll be for this one too. my pixel 3 shoots way better now than it did at launch, and has significantly better edge detection for portaits, etc. than the pixel 6 currently does. it's one thing that really has me hooked on the pixel lineup. once the algorithms learn to better deal with the 6's new cameras, you should see a huge improvement, and it'll probably get even better later on!

This was a great showing of what the Pixel 6 Pro can do before Google actually tunes the software for the new hardware. And you said what I've been saying since the phone came out though. The software needs to catch up with the new camera power. Only thing I wish you did was take more portrait shots using the 4x telephoto natively without the software magic. I feel like that will give the best results for portraits since everything will be real depth and natural. Can't wait to get mine.
@MrSwaggernaut833 жыл бұрын
Can confirm, the tele lens is great on its own, natural bokeh is almost always there, and though it's not a ton, it's enough to look great and it's natural
@claughlin3 жыл бұрын
Why would they release the Pixel 6 Pro before tuning the software for the new hardware?
@sidersproductions9413 жыл бұрын
@@claughlin because they had to release the phone at some point whether they got everything perfectly tuned or not. This is very common these days. Especially with OnePlus whose camera systems always improve over time.

@12:20 Such an AWESOME feature to be able to adjust the blurring of the background _after the pic was taken_ in Portrait mode! I think the automatic blur could be reduced maybe 30%. The person's edge is slightly too sharp for my taste. Maybe if they made the setting user adjustable beforehand & retain the setting until I reset it manually? 🤔
@sidersproductions9413 жыл бұрын
@@BoltRM yes I agree 100%. The effect is overdone. But I'm thinking Google will eventually release some updates to improve it. The 4x telephoto actually does a better job of doing portraits than the dedicated portrait mode.

Hey Alex, I've noticed that the P6Pro's RAW capture is absolutely fantastic, and minor editing in Lightroom produces images WAY better than the default camera app. Maybe you could do a video on shooting RAW with the Pixel 6? It really shows off the hardware of the phone's camera
@azvisuals3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. The raw files seemed really flat to me. And the exposure often looks different and way off compared to the jpg. Of course it's recoverable in LR but it seems to take more work. I will have to test more and maybe create an updated video about it

great video. luckily I got got a 256gb pro last week and did one RAW edit for the first time today, just testing (edit in snapseed). The DNG was very flat and overexposed .. was able to pull that back but was pretty impressed on what the phone did on its own to create the jpeg. RAW edits on the phone will take some practice. I agree that the falloff in the portrait is too strong as a default so may need to edit mine. BTW, the video stabilization modes are incredible, try them all if you haven't. I like that I can edit in google or my own editor with a direct link (e.g. snapseed). The 6 pro is a beast out of the box and I think the software will improve even further, hoping the google team watches your video.

From what I seen and in store. The 6 pro and iPhone video quality and stability is neck and neck. Both doing better in different situations. If I am not mistaken, the Action Pan mode is actually expecting you to hold still instead of panning. The AI will basically auto detect the main subject in the frame, isolate it and blur the background accordingly. Maybe this is the reason why your results were inconsistent. Anyways, thanks for this helpful video!

I spotted your video a little late otherwise I would have commented sooner. As a photographer, appreciate the work you put into the video. I take people like yourself much more seriously than the large mega channels like LMG and MrWhoseTheBoss. I can tell from how you describe composition, telephoto compression, negative and positive space in the frame as well as the limitations of computational photography that you are a real photographer. I have watched about two dozen KZbin reviews while waiting for my pre-order to arrive. The one thing I've seen in common with the videos I've watched is knowing when to use the computational photography is as important as knowing when not to use it and go about it old school manual. It seems Google's portrait mode needs a lot of work and its computational photography has gotten overhyped to God level when it isn't. I would much prefer to shoot portraits using the tele manually in 4x mode instead of the software portrait mode with the fake bokeh. Then edit in post. Hopefully my preorder for the 6 Pro will arrive Monday. I am hoping this phone will reignite my interest again in photography. I haven't touched my DSLRs since 2019. This phone has my hope up since I often wish I had my big camera on me sometimes. Perhaps It will get me to pickup the large cameras again too.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! For me, almost every phone works well enough and its the cameras that really separate one from another. Especially since I don't want to carry around a full frame camera and lens all the time yet still want to capture good quality images. That is why not having a pro mode on the pixels is really annoying for photographers and power users like us who want to use that creative freedom. But being able to shoot raw and edit in post helps a bit. Hopefully they can introduce a pro mode on the next generation devices.

I have a pixel 6 pro and am also a photography enthusiast. I have had limited use playing with my pixel pro cameras but I agree with your review that the tele looks to be a gem. Hardware appears to be great but hard to tell with all of googles heavy handed processing. I agree with almost everything you mention and dedicated manual settings would be great. I havent tried editing a raw file yet. Regardless , I think the pixel pro camera software needs the following improvements...tone down the HDR , its too aggressive, a slider which allows you to reduce or turn off would be great. White balance indoors isnt very good and getting too much yellow under fluorescent. Also tried to take a photo of my TV and the camera couldnt handle it. Not something I do often but I wanted to share a pic of something I was watching and could not get the camera to get a decent shot at all, crazy colours green and purple. The camera simply could not meter the TV . All of my old phones managed this easily. Oh well keeping the phone, hopefully these are all software related issues that can be cleaned up.

ALEX - First rate Brief,Thank You! I've ordered the 'Pixel Six' from Google .Didn't get the "Pro" for a number of reasons, one being 'top heavy' in my hand, when I could 'hold' it and the Price. Can't wait to get started. Traded my LG 6 which functioned flawlessly the last 6 years. Cheers🍺 frm Anchorage

Great job with the video Alex! Pixel 6 is a top performer but still needs camera improvement updates. Hoping that Google will release updates to make the camera better and probably they will as they have great update support for their older devices. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is another solid contender to tackle the Pixel. Would really love to see a comparison between these phones. Thanks again Alex :)

Thanks for watching! Yeah I think they are pretty good with software updates so fingers crossed. Unfortunately I don't have the vivo x70 so I can't make that comparison 🙁

Great video! I'm also noticing the screen feels and sounds weird when tapping it. Like you said, as if it's hollow...very weird.
@azvisuals3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is! I still can't get over it

Yes, that is one of the first things I noticed too. It feels hollow in the middle of the screen when tapping it. Makes it feel kind of cheap. Bummer.

@@Ebankz23 100% agree with this comment. I returned an ipad one time because it had that same hollow sound when tapping it. I'm surprised more reviewers aren't commenting on this!

Yes, I have the same hollow experience while tapping on the screen. Sound is sometimes affected by this as well. It was funny you brought it. I thought it was just me.

When I hear four to five hours screen on time, my heart sinks because that's nearly as little as I get my Pixel 3 XL after owning it for 2 years
@azvisuals3 жыл бұрын
Wow that's pretty good for pixel 3 xl! My usage will be different from yours so don't be too disheartened
@JoshsBookishVoyage3 жыл бұрын
@@azvisuals I'm trying to test my 3xl usage as I wait for my 6 pro to get a sense of it vs what my 6pro will be. I use a lot of camera so it may not be that different. We will see. That said, I thought 4+ hrs was a lot ok my p3

@@JoshsBookishVoyage yeah that is a lot. I think 5g also drains battery more

Keep in mind that it has 5000mAh battery, so the hardware for a good battery life is definitely there, they just need to optimise the new Tensor chip. Everything is new on the pixel 6, so the software will be playing catch-up the next 6 months.

The Pixel 2xl also has that same hollow feel when you tap the screen. Like plastic.
