I don't think I will have time to do a battery test, since 1) my expertise are more in teardown and other tests 2) I need to get a bunch of other videos finished 3) everyone complains on battery tests and each person wants it tested a certain way so its extremely time consuming 4) by the time I get it done, other reviewers will do it. So yeah. However if I do decide to do it, how exactly do you guys want to see it done.. lets see the 15 different ways people will want to see it done lol.

It's about as difficult as basically every other phone for the last 8 years. It still remains annoying to do. Thankfully in a few years all these companies are being forced to put out phones with really easily assessable batteries. No reason it can't be designed like the old days with easy removable covers with no glue and only minimal screws holding it in place. Gaskets have been around forever and do a great job at waterproofing.
@LeeNeighoff
@LeeNeighoff Жыл бұрын
@@theRemedyGames Something like what LG did with the G5(?) with that removable bottom tray would be perfect. Just put the charging circuitry on it along with the USB port, and have it all slide out with the battery. With a good gasket and strong screws holding it in, It should be just as waterproof as an adhesive-sealed phone. Bonus points if they use something other than Phillips so the screws are not easy to strip.

Hi @PBKreviews: Great Video(s) thanks for sharing teardowns like that with us! :) One question if I may, starting in 1:13 little springs are visible along the edge that connect to the back-side of the screen when assembled. Currently the thread count for weird bumps visible in bright light (light needs to be as bright so that the screen becomes blue) goes up on reddid where users (including me) see those when the screen is turned off. I have also recorded one video (in my profile, an attempt to link it here was removed automatically). In case you have time to watch that/consider - do you think those bumps/dents could be a by-product of a assembly issue at the factory causing those springs to touch the screen a bit too hard so that the dents/bumps are visible from the front. In that case, could that in theory cause screen issues over time or would that rather be a cosmetic mini issue (I could accept a cosmetic issue, my only concern would be in case that could potential damage the screen over time)?

Thanks for the teardown. Could you figure out which sensor the main sensor is? Because according to the specs it surprisingly is neither the gn2 or gn1, except Google made mistakes in their own official data sheets. (it is stateted, that the pixel 8 has ultra hdr which the gn1 isnt capable of but it is also stated that the sensor is 1/1,3, but the gn2 would be 1/1,12)

I'm 1 minute into this video and I feel duped by the Google presentation. They made it sound like it would be easy to replace the screen or battery. "'Apply heat to loosen the adhesive" is already outside the scope of 'easy'. Possible, yes.
@theRemedyGames
@theRemedyGames Жыл бұрын
Not to mention that adhesive might be fine NOW. In a few years when someone would typically be replacing parts the adhesive turns to cement and it becomes ridiculously difficult to soften it. I just did this on my Pixel 3 earlier this year. That adhesive needed a blow dryer on high for 5 minutes on about 2 dozen passes just to loosen it enough to get it started on one side. It ultimately didn't work and I just used my wife's old Pixel 3 where the battery swelled up and split the back open for me already and replaced that one instead (then transferred everything over). This glue shit needs to stop.

Do the screens of the 8/8 Pro still feel and sound hollow when you tap them?
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews Жыл бұрын
I don't remember the 7 or 7 pro but sort of. Also I think the main reason would be the fact they have the screen seated on the plastic border underneath that clips into the frame so the screen might sit slightly higher than the components inside and not have anything directly pressing against the back of it. For screen replacements, this is good since that plastic border makes it much easier to replace the screen, or other parts inside the phone without damaging a working screen when prying it off.

just curious, why it doesnt have 5g mmwave antenna? is it an international version? or google's just lazy to put it in us versio
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews Жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure if this was an international version, but Verizon is charging $100 more for their pixel phones. So probably only the Verizon variant in the US will have the mmwave antenna.

With such a large piece of grafite film over the battery, if the battery is to be replaced should you replace the film or is reusing it still a viable option?

Is the display cable built in the same way, as in Pixel 7 Series? What do you think, will the P8 suffer from the same green flicker display problems, as Pixel 7?
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews Жыл бұрын
It's not the same flex cable, the design is slightly different so hopefully it won't suffer that issue but it's too early to tell.

Hello, thank you for the video. It's very informative. In your opinion, is this a more durable phone than the Pixel 5a? I dropped my 5a and the screen stopped working, although the front glass was intact. I would like to know if these kinds of situations are not going to bappen withh the pixel 8.

It could be that the battery or display connector has been disconnected.

You're welcome. It would be the entire black square area on the back where I point out in the video. Not sure measurements since I don't have it on hand anymore to check.

I think you should work a little more on your commentary and video editing. Jerryrigeverything makes similar content and gets millions of views mostly because he has good storytelling skills and better editing. No hate at all towards your channel, you're always the first one to do the teardowns just giving a few suggestions. Peace!

Thanks. yeah I try but I just don't have that personality to pull it off. I feel it would come off way too fake trying to do that haha. Also yeah not the best editing but its hard to do both recording and editing and run around and do tests so I just try to do the best I can with the time I have but thanks, I will try to improve as I go :)

No vapor chamber for heat dissipation. It'll throttle like Pixel 6 and 7 series or how IPhones do, because Apple and Google insist on no vapor chamber and think a graphite/copper film is enough lol

will I have my warranty void if I teardown my phone? My pixel 8 blacked out, when I was just scrolling, no response at all. I didn't even drop it, and the pixel 8 was unboxed only a month ago. I bought the phone from a different country and there are no certified google repair centers here in my country. So I wanted to have a look inside the phone myself without having to worry about voiding my warranty.
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews 2 ай бұрын
yes if they see any signs of it being opened or tampered they will void warranty. however if you got it from a different country, the warranty will only be valid in the country you purchased so you wouldn't be able to file a warranty claim in a different country. so depending on if you plan on going back or not, you can not worry about it
