Went to this pub about three weeks ago. It still has the same landlord. He’s in his eighties now and a proper laugh. The night we went in he was wearing a gimp mask and doing the helicopter with a strap on. Absolute mental bloke but the locals love him! 😄

Went to this pub a few weeks ago, everyone was Savilled to f##k, top night, the owner is 104 now and still badgering the twinkies, top bloke. Got nobbled on eccy-dees and dobbers til 4am, lock in, cock in, get in, top jobber. Funny story, my mate's nan died in there in the 80s.

My Nan's dad used to run a pub in Bedford, it was the family home, pub and police station at one point. She remembers the living room always being full of pissheads and criminals. She learnt to play piano in front of all of them. Sounds like a western but it was the 1930s

English people are really into local pubs, it’s more a culture to that in Scotland. In Scotland we almost treat going to the pub as a challenge to drink as much as we can but down south they actual go in with wife and family for only a drink maybe two every few nights.

I think it's the look of the pub itself. The pub actually looks like a house. But that's what PUB means, public house.....

@@_Shadbolt_ My wild guess would be that the pub was there a long time before the houses were built around it and that road was the main road to/from Luton before the A6 by pass was built, so probably catered to the passing travellers and coaches.

@@skapunkno1 that would make sense! I wonder why that doesn't happen more often. Or happens in a less incongruous way. I find it really interesting that we know it's now quite the right place for one, just shows how formulaic our general environments must be!

Actually there used to be four pubs in the village so you could have done a pub crawl! One is closed but still there (The Bull), one is now an indian restaurant (Cafe Goa - formerly the Coach and Horses) and the other one is still open (The Oak). there was also a fifth pub within walking distance (Speed the Plough) which was very dodgy and at some point was genuinely a strip club.

Aw gee some people are so oversensitive and underlived these days. A real publican in a real rural pub where real people live real lives and act upon the full extent of their true nature with no inhibitions or subconscious self-judgement informed by the pseudo-ethics of modern online social discourse EXPECT a sex pest for a landlord and if he isn't? ... there must be something fucking wrong with him!!

Went to this pub for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Looks like it's the same guy running the place - he's geriatric now, but still knows how to have a good time! The night we visited he and his 3 mates got dressed up in clownsuits and gave me and my pals a lap-dance, what a legend!
