Ian McCartney suggested your channel to us. How do you transport your bikes when towing a caravan?

Stand up in Sand, Lowers your center of gravity to foot pegs, in stead of seat. Lower tyre press too.

@@travelingtienes2594 No prob, tho as you know. in order to stand you'll need a bit of speed/momentum. And that IS hard to get in sand like that last section. FYI, my wife also has a XT250 (20015) excellent unit. She a 'shorty' and it was the easiest to lower, and has fantastic fuel consumption (as you know)!! If you ever get up to Alice Spring, message me and we can have a beer!!

@@travelingtienes2594 Jo is doing a great job, she doesn't need to stand up nor go any faster. AND standing does NOT lower the c of g - standing actually raises the c of g. The advantage of standing is 1/ greater body or positioning flexibility, a/ allowing the body to move through a greater range and b/ to reposition the body faster to maintain balance, and 2/ to allow the knees to absorb or lessen the impact of pot holes etc. As Jo has already demonstrated by this ride, you don't need any special techniques to get through. Standing up does not means standing stiff legged with the knee locked. Standing means standing in the 'attack' body position - knees slightly bent, balls of the feet centered on the foot pegs, chest forward, elbow up - poised for quick movement. It is quite an advanced techniques and it comes after general 'unconsciously competent' with bike controls skills, and 'unconsciously competent' bushcraft (as in roadcraft - concentration, observation, manage position, manage speed). For safe adventure touring bushcraft is more important than any special skills/technique. The main skill in riding sand is observation, manage speed, and keep or move the weight to the back of the bike to prevent 'digging in' or 'tracking' of the front wheel. Keeping or moving the weight to the back of the bike is the first step, or first learning, in sand. The load on the little XT is already a good start. Moving the riders weight back also has limited option because of the load, standing or sitting. The next step is to be at the right speed in a flexible gear with a reserve to be able to accelerate to reduce the effective steering in unexpected or unsighted soft patches. The bike will 'track' and move about regardless and a rider has to tolerate the movement and vagueness in steering. To do this the rider needs to have a firm handlebar grip without the 'death grip', and the rider needs to control or limit or dampen the steering oscillations rather than stop them absolutely - i.e. experience and judgment. Anyway Jo is doing a great job and reading her character even in this short vid I'm sure she ain't gunna be bullied in o anything she does want to do. If she does want to experiment or improve try it on day rides and not 160klms and two days from help if it goes wrong.

@@graemesydney38 hi this is Jo. Thanks your support. Yes I have done very little sand before this track but was after the challenge maybe I bit off more than I could chew. Since then I have done Steep Point and learning with every sand ride I do. Heading out tomorrow on a sandy track at Cape Range will try and get my weight further back. If I get in trouble I still have Fuj to pick me up 😊
