Goose Island Bourbon County 2024

I'm just starting my first 2024 bottle. The smell was really good. I didn't get the ethanol people talk about and it smells like the typical BA stout that I like. There is some ethanol on the taste but I think it's better than what a lot of people are reporting. I also don't think it's that thin tasting. I think I've tried 2018 thru 2023 and liked 2022 the best. I think this is definately better than 2023, to my palate.

I was kinda ba humbug this year and dropped by one place for a few bottles Friday night. After sampling the next day I was blown away and thought this years base is the best that I can remember. To me it had much better complexity with the barrel character that balanced everything out. It also came across as smooth and ready to drink. Some years like 21' and especially 20' just tasted like tootsie rolls. 2018 had a great bourbon barrel character, but not much else. I got a few different runs back in I think 22' and a few of them had this hot character that smelled and tasted like Wild Turkey, which is on their suppliers of barrels. Just like others have mentioned how much of this is based on different runs being different this year or is it just our pallets being different? I always enjoy watching your BCS reviews every year - Cheers!

I’m with you. This years base is killer. I’m more of a bourbon than a beer drinker and I think this had more bourbon character than previous years. It is less sweet and a more (for lack of a better term) bourbony.

This is the most divissive year I have ever seen for Bourbon County and I have no idea what is causing it. It is definitely a thing though.

I’m with you on the base version. I lovvvvedd last year. This is ehhhh. But then I have friends who love it. So interesting how it hits each person’s palate

Yes this year seems a bit off, at least for distribution (much less for me this year is available) and if less tasting notes, seems less polish on the delivery? But they still know how to premium-box and over-charge for varients 🙂

Cracked open a bottle tonight. Immediately thought it was mid to say the least. Just not on par with previous years, thin, a lot of barrel, watery mouthfeel. Again all this is in comparison to previous years. On its own I think it’s tasty but definitely a dud in a group. Cheers 🍻

My review is posting tonight, but I found it to be a generally weak year for BC. I hope it ages well. The variants have also been a bit weak, can’t wait to see your review of the vanilla. They didn’t give any tasting notes this year, which I found funny until I tasted this years BC.

Interesting review. I have heard a mixed bag of reviews of the 2024 original from it was the best in years to it was underwhelming. I am planning to let mine age unless I can find some discount bottles.

I was talking to some people about this exact thing. It seems like people either love it or hate it, not much in the middle. I would definitely age it!

Excited for your thoughts on this years lineup. So far I have only had the base at rare day. Out of the tap it was delicious with a big hit of cinnamon vanilla and oak. All of the bottled reviews have not seemed to match that taste so far. Minus the prop I think this year has been exceptional. Looking forward to your reviews!

This years was and is super hot for me wish i found it back in October like usual but this was a weird year for distribution and that hit me after you told me about your area.

I haven't tried the 2024 release yet - I'm in the same general region as you so can't get it locally, and it will be several months before a friend from out-of-state visits and brings me a few bottles. Your review generally matches what I've been hearing from those that have tried it so far. When combined with the massively disappointing variants from last year* (the bananas fosters was probably the most I ever felt as though I wasted money on beer), I don't know what to expect from Goose Island in the future. Also, the complete lack of tasting notes on the bottle seems vaguely ominous in ways I can't quite put into words. *It should be said, however, that the Angel's Envy variant was one of the best bottles of beer I have ever had the pleasure of consuming.

My enthusiasm for their future releases is way down, which is sad because I kind of think of myself as the big Bourbon County Beertuber. The lack of tasting notes is soooooo weird. Maybe they knew it lacked flavor haha. And yes, that Angel's Envy was next level for sure. Man, I love that beer. Cheers!

Not my favorite vintage. It reminded me of 2021 when that was fresh. I think 2023 set the bar really high, that this would be tough to match. I had the macaroon, though, and that was pretty nice

It seems the only ones that are a "hit" this year is the Bardstown and Rare variants, which is very difficult to get, impossible for most of us. The Macaroon variant seems to getting decent reviews, but not super.

I am literally sipping the macaroon now and it is pretty good. I am a sucker for vanilla, so I did like that one. I can't imagine ever scoring the Rare, sadly. Cheers!
