I have watched this video numerous times and keep coming back to it. You were the inspiration behind me buying the LX570. I had been considering a Toyota Tundra or an SUV and when I saw your video and adventure - I went and bought an LX.

Totally awesome. I inherited a 2009 LX from my grandmother. Going to put on some 275/60/R20 (33” tires), but one day this is what it will become. I can’t believe how few modifications it takes to fit a 37. It’s cool owning a vehicle as strong and well built as these.

I want to add Werewolf portals when I inherit mine or buy it from my mother in law. 5" of lift with stock suspension and equates to a 4.90 gear ratio. 3" wider per side too I believe. Can run 38"s with no other mods.

@@austinaubinoe2195 at some point it’ll be worth moving down to an 18” or 17” rim, more and cheaper tire options over the 20”’s, more sidewall and better air’d down performance as well. You can usually find a cheap set of Toyota rims floating around for sale pretty readily

I recently bought a 09 gx470 in excellent shape my question is besides the motor what are differences between your lx an my gx drivetrain wise thanx that lx is sik.

I haven’t owned a GX yet but one thing is this has the hydraulic suspension vs pneumatic. Seems a lot of people swap out the GX suspension and quite a few people enjoy and try to maintain the LX AHC. The GX is smaller and better for fitting down tight trails. But because it’s larger, the LX & LC seem to use heavier duty components throughout the drivetrain, making running larger tires a little easier.

LX570's have much larger drivetrain all the way through. They use the AB60 transmission from the Tundra, and later an AE80 8 speed for 2016+. Larger transfer case. The axles are significantly larger with an 9" diff in the front and a 9.5" diff in the rear vs 8" front, 8" rear on the GX470. Front CV axles are much larger and really not a common failure point. Steering rack and tie rods on the Land Cruiser is also larger and is what most GX470/4Runner/Tacoma people upgrade too if they are getting serious. Effectively, the 200 series Land Cruiser is a shorter, slightly narrower Tundra. Almost all of the driveline, suspension and steering components are shared with or can be swapped with the Tundra. The only exception being the rear axle housing since the Tundra uses leaf springs.

No, I’m sorry. I need to do one but I’m wordy and I overthink everything. One day I’ll do one on Mud. There’s one on there for my old 100 on 37’s (mtkid) which is now sold. Your truck looks so good with different rims and tires than the original ones. I have a 2011 LX 570 and was wondering what size wheels you have and also what size tires. And did you modify the suspension? Looks like it is really performing great on the rocky trails.

Thank you ☺️ Wheels on it for this trip are 17” Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior wheels that were turned into true beadlocks by OMF. Tires are 37x12.5R17 and if you look through many of the comments, you’ll get an idea of what I’ve done to fit them. I.e. body lift and cutting sheet metal primarily.

How has the onroad performance changed with the 37"s? I had an fj on 35s and acceleration and breaking where noticeably delayed

My perspective may be slightly jaded. I had my last 100 on 37’s and feel like this motor in the 200 (5.7) and the stock brakes do quite well. In fact I’m working on squeezing 40’s under it now. I should probably do a brake upgrade next but I feel like the motor and the 4.88 gears are sufficient.

@@tiny_the_200 Yeah that V8 can handle it better. What lift kit are you running? I'm starting to convert my 08 LX into an overland vehicle, but having a hard time finding lift kits and a front bumper/armor

@@QualityBuiltUSA well, I’m not running much of a lift kit at all. This rig has the Toyota strut spacers in the front and a 30mm coil spacer in the rear, neither of which actually lift the vehicle though, they merely preload the coils a little so the AHC isn’t working as hard after adjusting the sensors to lift the vehicle a little bit. I mostly have a body lift and cut fenders and a moved front cab body mount to run the 37’s (and removed front swaybar and trimmed all other sheet metal or plastic bumper parts that still got in the way). The body lift feels pretty critical to get to 37’s, but if all you are wanting is a reliable overlanding rig, follow TeCKis300 on the mud forum for his how-to running full 35x12.5 tires under a 200. He outlines it perfectly 👌🏼

Which shock absorber did you install on the lx570 And does it interfere with 4low and crawl control engagement? Because 4low engagement will activate the Automatic height adjustment ( if it was original manufacture shock absorber)

It still has the factory AHC shocks & system. I have removed the front swaybar. It rides around at Normal height on the road and I put it into High while on the trail. I also added the factory spacer to the front, and an aftermarket 30mm coil spacer to the rear to preload the coil a little after adjusting the height sensors up a little.

Thank you! I haven’t regeared yet. I made a mistake maybe 4 months ago on the rear R&P, and now the replacement has been backordered to Jan 🤦🏻‍♂️ Honestly, it feels rather comfortable on the stock gears, or maybe I’ve just gotten used to them 🤷🏻‍♂️ I do think a regear is a good idea though, especially if I can ever get to 40’s, which I am working on. @@Trugoy1 I feel like I might have answered this in another comment but maybe not. I have a body lift (tapered 1 3/4” front to 1 1/4” rear) then moved the front cab body mounts back on the frame. I also trimmed the fenders but that’s more for the next larger size tire. I also have the front swaybar removed and the common AHC sensor lift. Wheel spacers to clear the UCA. Kind of a lot of things, but also rather simple solution in my opinion.

When you say tapered body lift, do you mean leveled the front?

Most people do a simple 1” spacer ( or whatever height they choose) for each body mount location. I choose to use a 1 3/4” spacer at the front body mount location, 1 1/4” at the back location and the appropriate sizes in the middle two locations. This gave me extra clearance at the front where I need it for the tire to turn. The tires tuck perfectly in the rear (after a tiny bit of clearancing behind the tire).

@@zanetaylor7 I still have all three selectable positions, but they’re all just oriented up a little further. Maybe around 1 1/2” in front and 1 1/4” in the back since I have a little custom bracket on my front UCA that allows me to adjust it a little further than normal. Have to be careful though, because you can easily go too far and the suspension ends up way too stiff and bouncy. I also have the front strut spacers to help preload the front a little. Edit: sorry, I see this is a reply to the body lift question. Are you asking about my body lift or the AHC sensor adjustment for a little more lift? One doesn’t really have any effect on the other.

Great to hear some real talk on what its like to lift the AHC beyond an inch. Makes me think that a trim and body lift is really all I need to have the best of everything on 33/34 inch tires as a DD

@@zanetaylor7 you don’t need to trim fenders or do a body lift for 33/34’s. @TeCKis300 on mud has the recipe for 35’s w/o either of those. It’s important to have the perfect wheel offset though. Are you @1UZJ80N60 on mud?

For taking off the chrome side door molding, did you just pull it off? Were there holes where it was installed?

On the earlier models they were just held on by trim tape so I was able to use dental floss to cut through the tape and then clean off the remaining residue. Sometimes a thin fishing line can be used. The later models with holes, some have taken to a body shop to actually be filled/welded shut and repainted. Others have found a close match in vinyl and ran a strip of vinyl across the bottom of both doors. Hardly noticeable if the vinyl matches closely. Hope that helps 🤙🏼

Most of the videos and photos on Instagram ( @tiny_the_200 ) are all in High, but I drive around at normal height and it goes into low just fine without rubbing. And no KDSS on these LX’s in the U.S. They would have a standard swaybar front and rear. I have removed the front swaybar.
