In one of the cities I lived in as a kid I essentially had a forest for a backyard. One day walking back from school my friend convinced me to take a "short cut" to my place wherein we walked through said forest. It took us an extra hour and by the time we got back we were exhausted and covered in mud and thorns. So moral of the story, even if there IS a forest between you and school, tell Keith to shut up and just stick to the sidewalk
@BobHatesYoutube6 жыл бұрын
I don't know why, but now I really want a t-shirt that simply reads, "tell Keith to shut up." Lolz

Live on a mountainside that was 99% forest and 1% land for a yard and a mobile home. Went walking in the woods and didn't know it but crossed into the neighbor's area of it and found a bench with a pond. Was with my little brothers, heard someone clomping down the trial and hid and a wild white haired (think Einstein or Bernie Sanders) came and sat on the bench so we quietly sneaked our way back home. My brother's ran into him later and he was as they put it "Cranky, scary and a butthead about his area".

A full day after watching this video that ghost being erased, and especially that scream, has been haunting me (pun not intentional but I'll take it). I came back just to watch it again. It's truly one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a video game (and I've played Postal 2). To me, there's a real eldritch horror in the concept of erasing someone from existence that is so much more affecting than any form of violence. Their disappearance is unnoticed and they are unmourned, even by their closest loved ones.

@@MagusMarquillin Escape from Horrorland was an adventure game and being it was released in 1996, fell more into the Interactive Movie genre. I watched a lets play of it recently and it still holds up... well providing you like cheesy 90's stuff. The fact Horrorland is actually a miniature set gives it a nice Tim Burton feel that holds up a lot better than the 90's pre-rendered CGI backgrounds of many games from that era.

@valcliffb85586 жыл бұрын
The movie started off....very hard to focus on, as the child actors seemed really stiff and uncomfortable in their own skins. Jack Black has worked a lot with kids and teens in the past though, and the stars of the show actually started acting better through the course of the movie because they had someone like Black to work off of. Given how bad a rep Sony movies have, this one was actually alright. That being said, I can't say I really care for the soccer moms trying to make kids books like Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark more 'safe' for their kids. I mean I remember in grade school when they'd pass out those catalogs in class that would have different books for me to order. All I had to go by basically was how badass the coverart is, and now they've freaking neutered it! They need to make that nightmare imagery even more gouging and unnerving, our kids are tougher than we give them credit for.

I was watching R rated Horror movies before I was a teenager and was reading John Saul, Stephen King and others when I was 11. Some kids just have an appetite for the spooky and over protective parents worried about their kids reading a scary story is sad. I mean yeah, I was about 9 when I read a scary story about cannibals and ritual sacrifice and it scared the bejeezus out of me, I still loved it. Before the advent of pure jumpscare flicks and torture porn there was a lot of decent spooky stuff out there.

Awesome job! Also I think my favorite Goosebumps episode was the one where they went to a camp that prepared them for earth. I remember it had an intriguing ending and such. Can't remember the episode though. I think it featured some sort of big black wolf monster in it and took place at a camp.
@MysteriumArcanum6 жыл бұрын
Welcome to Camp Nightmare is the episode/book's name. Personally that was my least favorite episode, as the motivation for why the main characters were jerks to the main kid was really flimsy and the "the mean characters were aliens/monsters the whole time" cliché was done to death in that series.

Random funny story: when I was 13, and it was my last year I went trick or treating, I had begged my mom to buy me a vampire costume......I ended up staying inside glued to the TV because a Goosebumps marathon came on. Sadly I never saw another marathon... :(

Partial to "Stay Out of the Basement" and "Scarecrow Walks at Midnight" myself. Basement was my first Goosebumps book so will always have a place in my dark and twisted heart. The one I remember making the most waves at school was "Say Cheese and Die" due to it being a kids book with death. Being a prim and proper Church Of England type school (at least according the brochure) this was totally radical and showed how cool R.L. Stine was. Its quarantine time and here I am finally going through your backlog of videos. And so far its been a pleasure. Just had to comment on this video especially since despite how it may not be impressive by any standards, it was nice to see a company like Wayforward bring back classic adventure gameplay for a popular IP. I bought it on release and was pleasantly surprised how it hit all the marks I want out of the gameplay. Even got 100% achievements. Its traditional, simple and adventurous. I'd love to see this type of gameplay pushed more instead of the generic and often annoying casual Hidden Object games I grew bored of. Even during the time I constantly played them, this game managed to shine. Context interactions, large inventory, interactive dialog (tho simplified) and villanous monsters to combat. Reminds me of the many "dungeon crawler" adventures like Waxworks, BAT, Shadowgate/Deja Vu/The Uninvited, or even the classics like Shannara, Death Gate, Super Hero League of Hoboken .

I didn't get into the series until I was an adult, studying these books for a class session on the community "chapter books in a series" create among young readers. I hated being scared as a kid, especially with jump scares and "cheap shot" thrills, which a lot of books for 7 - 12 year olds did (not just Goosebumps either). I totally thought you were talking about the older FMV game. I never got around to the 2015 game, but I DID love the movie. I even like the sequel.

Stine also wrote two original G.I. Joe novels back in the 80s - Siege of Serpentor and Jungle Raid.

Fun fact: R.L. Stein, an OSU graduate, gave the keynote speech when I graduated from OSU with my Bachelor's (in English, no less). He went on to explain how he couldn't remember who his college keynote speaker was, or who his son's keynote speaker was. In order to give us a keynote speech we would actually remember, he told us a ghost story. Years later, I still remember his keynote speech, and I don't remember who the keynote speaker was when I got my Master's.

My favorite reference is in Slappy's room. You can see a lonesome version of the TV Slappy laying by a background bookshelf

He's also known for voicing Buster Baxter's weirdly human-faced uncle Bob (who looked normal in the flashbacks to when he and Ma Baxter were kids) in the Arthur episode Fright Night.

I am actually really glad to know R.L. Stine wrote on Eureka’s Castle.
