In this video we compare the Goosky RS4 to the SAB Goblin RAW 420! The most asked question I’ve gotten is witch one? We go over the Goosky RS4 and RAW 420 and see the differences as well as a flight on both. They are both great helis and the RS4 is a fantastic value and the RAW 420 is incredible quality and super simple to build. The choice is witch ever one makes you happy!

Excellent comparison video, thanks for the time and effort in putting this together. I too am waiting for the OMP M4 to come out, it looks to be a great option. I also want to say that I appreciate your flying style on video. While smack 3D is impressive, it's hard on the eyes to watch on a flat screen and not in person. Makes your videos enjoyable to watch.

Great comparison and nice flight as always. Personally I too gravitate towards the Raw 420. But I'm still waiting to see how the m4 stacks up. I guess it will be closer to the raw in terms of build and it obviously doesn't come with a fbl unit so you're fee to choose. Seeing the design is by Jonas Wackershauser it's probably a very well tought out and capable heli.

Thank you for this review as I know it required a lot of time and effort on your part. As you said, it is up to each individual to weigh the pluses and minuses before making a decision. I am still on the fence; however, since I am a new flyer learning the basics, I am leaning more toward the RS4 because it is almost the same size physically as the SAB 420 and that is important to my aging eyes. I don't mind the tail servo outside as it seems to be a very beefy servo. ThanK you again.🧙‍♂

Plus parts are much cheaper.

I get the aging eyes! 🧙‍♂ I opted for the "Lime Green" which to me looks more like yellow for visibility reasons. I like the white the most but on overcast days I think it would blend in too much and although I'm not adverse to pink 🎠, but no need to provide the helicopter community an easy reason to bust my chops over color. Remember! They coined the term Smack Down when speaking about flying. 😂

As good as the GOOSKY RS 4 is, I can't believe that it is a better Heli than the SAB GOBLIN RAW 420!! I'm posting this comment before the video is over, Don't make me change it, Jeff. lol. Great video, Brother! I agree with every point you made. Of course, buying everything separately is at a premium, but like you said, Jeff, you get the ESC, FBL, Battery that you want, and you fly on all your other Heli's, the SAB Goblin 420 mightbefor you. Both are terrific Heli's and if you're getting into the Hobby and have a limited budget, then the GOOSKY RS4 might be the way to get into the Hobby for you! Fantastic Video Jeff, great builds, great flights... Cheers, my friend.

Thank you Larry! I agree, the 420 is definitely my choice but! The simple buy it at one shot as a PNP no need to really set up the FBL unit other than a couple simple steps. So I think for a beginner or first kit build and someone that really doesn’t know much about FBL set up or tuning the RS4 is definitely the way to go! But, if you are a seasoned pilot or somebody that is looking for the next build or to build a model the way you want then 100% the RAW 420.

The 420 is a bit bigger and beefier heli. Seems like it's truly built to be in a class just over the S4 and m4. Carries a bigger battery, main shaft etc. imo, the SAB isn't really competing with the s4 or m4. Even if goosky & omp come out with stretch kits, they will be pseudo 420s. Personal choice tho, as both are good. Raw 420 for me.

Hi Jeff, I was re-watching your SAB 420 series and wanted to ask what the difference is between threadlock and retaining compound as you use both. I know threadlock is for screws into metal. Could it be used instead of retaining compound where you used that instead?
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay in response, I just seen this comment. Retaining compound is used for stuff like bearings or any metal to metal surface you don’t want to come apart. Technically speaking you can use heat and get it apart but it is a stronger compound than blue Loctite. But used for bearing and pinions (like press fit) blue loctite is used in 99% of your build on all models.

So I'm still super new to the hobby, do you typically set up your throttle curves to be consistent and only control the collective pitch or do your throttle curves typically vary at all?
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 Жыл бұрын
So both ways. I run Flat throttle curves. But you have Idle up mode “Stunt” mode. In those modes it holds your throttle at a flat line percentage whatever you send it to and gives you a linear collective movement so when you are doing 3-D your motor stays at a consistent RPM and you just move the collective up and down for positive and negative.
@Lance57H
@Lance57H Жыл бұрын
@@westhobbiesrc8051 that's what I was kind of figuring, is there any instances where I would want a linear throttle curve? That's how I kind of set up my M2 Evo but I might consider changing it to a more flat line throttle curve and just keep it at a more consistent RPM. Unless it's in normal mode so I can control when the blades start up using the throttle stick. If you get a chance can you make a video about your set up on your simulator as well. I read through your comments and I noticed that you use the simulator to really refine your skills and I would personally be interested in seeing your setup on it. Thanks again for all your help and your great videos!
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 Жыл бұрын
@@Lance57H you don’t want a linear throttle curve, the main reason is because you will be consistently changing the head speed which consistently affects the keto. So as you go up and down from 0 to 100 the head speed raises and drops as you move your throttle/collective stick. So in normal mode I set a 0-50-50-50-50 then Idle 1 70-70-70-70-70 and Idle 2 100-100-100-100-100. If you watch my M2 EVO set up video I explain my radio settings. Having a zero on normal mode allows you to still use your throttle to control the motor off and on when you’re at zero but it gives you a consistent head speed throughout the cyclic range so it’s not raising and dropping. Yes, I still practice with a simulator as much as I can. I don’t think you can ever be too good for the simulator. Anytime I want to practice something new or put some kind of flying routine together I get on the simulator and try. I tried to aim for about 30 minutes of simulator time a day. But it doesn’t always work that way LOL I can try and do a video on simulators set up and what I do. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the videos and I hope you continue to learn from them!

I decided to buy the 420. I have only been flying since November. Destroyed several learning the process of set up to TX and crashing. Also, getting a taste of quality matters. Which led me to purchase a goosky S2, and it's an amazing, literally ready out of the box heli. Hrs and hrs of flying fun. 7min 30 sec flights with 850 packs. I have watched alot of Goblin videos and chose the 420

So the RAW 420 is definitely a less part count and easier to build model. But! The FBL setup on the RS4 is super simple. The no soldering is also very nice on the RS4 and simple plug everything in and go. Parts will be cheaper on the RS4 vs the RAW 420. Luckily you have a step-by-step build videos from me to help you along the way of your build on which ever model you choose. The RS four has auto level right out of the box. I know you can set it on most FBLs on the market but the set up is so much easier for a newer person. So with that, I would recommend the RS4.

The only problem I have with the Goblin is that there really isn't a place for a full-size receiver. Seems like everything these days is for a Spectrum or Vbar receivers.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 Жыл бұрын
The main reason is because there is no need for a full-size receiver. Satellites now are full range receivers like the SRXL2 and very small. But depending on what radio you are flying you can always put the receiver on the right side on the inside of the frame by the tail servo as others have put it there.

@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thanks for that good info. I still hesitate !!! Why do you have two Raw 420? Backup, rekit? You don’t seem to have motor bogging or rpm drop with RAW 420 like some other seems/complain to have. About Hobbywing store gov mode did you have better results after initial flights on the yellow? It seems that standardization setup process without app works well with that motor, no need to specify 42 poles anywhere. Cheers.

The orange RAW 420s are not mine. I built them for a buddy. Mine is the yellow one from the build series. I didn’t bring mine the day I did the flight comparison and they are identical to mine as far as set up only difference is color. I don’t notice any motor bogging unless I run a low head speed and get hard on the collective. But because I am so used to flying nitro helicopters collective management is very easy for me. I also run 13 1/2° of pitch positive and negative. 3200 RPM is unstoppable on this model. Crazy power! I would not hesitate buying a 420! You will not be disappointed! I don’t run the governor on my personal 420 just flat curves and still don’t have any bogging.

420 vs 380 blades though too so that extra weight is not 100% comparable. That extra 30mm * 2 length (22% more surface area) with the blades likely offsets that extra weight to some extent.

Those are two s*xy helicopters. (not in that way, I just mean they're both really epic and good looking helis.) But just one question, do the motors run cool or do they run hot? Also I must say that I like the servo configuration on the goosky better. The servos on the goblin are kinda hanging out a little bit, I feel like they'd be easier to shear off in a crash. The goosky has them tucked closer to its center and has them kinda protected and shielded by that carbon fiber armor.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 Жыл бұрын
Yes they are! No, the motors don’t run hot at all. Even after back to back flights. They stay cool. I think you mean the RAW 420 with the tail servo. The RAW 420 has the servo on the inside of the main frame. It is very protected!
@ambrosekillpack4841
@ambrosekillpack4841 Жыл бұрын
@@westhobbiesrc8051 That's true, but the main servos on the Goosky are better protected than the main servos on the Raw 420. It only sucks that goosky decided to have the tail servo hanging out. Not a fatal flaw but a design flaw none the less. But I would still take the goosky over the raw 420 because even though the tail servo isn't as well protected as the raw 420, the main servos are much better protected than the raw 420. This is just my nitpick though, these helis both fly great and I would not mind having either one.

YOu didn't mention some of the key components. Frame carbon thickness. Carbon layers, how many. What weave is the carbon. Stiffness of the carbon. The shafts, you did mention, but how about the berings? Aluminium parts, what grade are they at? Main blade quality, how balanced are the blades? Are they balanced as a set? Stiffness of a complete frame. How available is the spare parts. (also in europe) And i belive, it should have been compared to the Goblin 380. There are a lot of reasons, why the SAB is more expensive, especially as a 420 and not the 380. Just my thoughts. And i have been importing heli's from china, and i know where, they 'cut corners'. What would the RS4 cost, with MKS servos, top of the line motor and ESC, Icon 2, same battery setup & blades as the SAB.
