My husband and I live in the Netherlands and just voted absentee in Pennsylvania, our home state where we were both born. Our identity was rigourously checked in our applications. We got the emails that say our ballots were received successfully. But they did make us ask twice before they sent us our ballots.

This really pisses me off. Overseas citizens have to have passports, they have to be registered in their home state (usually where they grew up or last voted). And to get our ballots electronically they have to provide a passport number, a driver's license or state ID, and an electronic signature. Because of delays in the mails in my overseas residence I actually was unable to get my 2024 midterm ballot in time. California doesn't allow an internet ballot to be submitted and no one has a fax system anymore. So I actually flew to another the city in another country with the nearest US embassy (Singapore) to vote on the very first day they allowed voting. They will then send my ballot to Wash. D.C. and then put it in the public mail to get to my county election office. They warn voters that it could take up to four weeks to get the ballot from Embassy to the Tabulation site. Thanks Ken De Joy! And just to get into the US Embassy I have to show my passport...the top form of proof of citizenship one can have. This is insanely difficult. I've heard some States are requiring a notarized ballot. They say that the STATE notaries are not supposed to charge for this (as it would be an Unconstitutional poll tax)...but out of State and out-of-country voters will have notaries that DO CHARGE. Does Trump really think that overseas citizens are going through all this hassle to cheat? This is just simply an effort to disenfranchise Americans abroad...we pay taxes to the US, serve in the armed forces or diplomatic service, are doing NGO or missionary work, serve in the Peace Corps, or are doing business bringing American products abroad or desirable and necessary products back to the States. Now the MAGA are making us second class citizens? This has now become an election to defend our right as citizens to vote.

As an Australian I am glad that there are over 50,000 American troops based in Australia because we only have a population of around 27 million and are the 6th largest country so we need all the help we can get to defend our country. I owe my very existence to all the brave American soldiers who sacrificed their lives protecting Australia so I must do everything possible to help protect the USA from its enemies both foreign and domestic. Donald Trump, his Republican politicians and supporters are the biggest threat to the USA since the civil war and anyone who threatens the USA is also threatening Australia.

What pisses me off is the fact that to become a citizen of another country, you need to pay $2,000 to the US government. Also, our men and women in uniform are fighting for part of a country/politicians that believe they cannot vote. Evidently you can die or kill for your country at 18, but cannot drink. I remember a time when you couldn’t vote in the military because you had to be 21. Make it make sense, US.

Look, I'm an American Citizen, US passport holder, file my US taxes every year from abroad, currently live in Canada. I go through a rigorous registration process which is tied in with my last US address, include the Oath of Voter form with my mail-in ballot. I don't think these people understand what we have to go through to vote from abroad but I do it because I care. They, on the other hand, are just trying to find ways, as usual, of disqualifying legitimate voters to tilt the table. Shameful!

No, they'd still try and disenfranchise overseas civilian and military voters. It would be a massive bloc of target voters spread across all the country (in terms of home precincts). In fact, maybe one of the few targetable groups (although I expect they'd still find ways of voter discouragement in heavily Democratic areas). Remember the EC is only relevant for Presidential elections...there's all that political control of Congress, Statehouses, Governors, State Courts, County Sheriff's and municipal offices like Commissioners, School boards, etc.

Beyond Republicans just losing these lawsuits, there should be some kind of punishment for preventing legal voters from casting ballots. If any individual attempts to vote illegally, there are stiff penalties including fines and jail time. The same should be true of those that prevent legal voters from casting legal ballots. They should face penalties including fines and jail time, per count.

They tried this in Arizona a few years ago. That time they were focused on disenfranchising college students who are attending an out-of-state schools. Arizona residents, namely the parents of these college students were livid but the GOP run government simply said they weren't going to allow any more public comment on the matter and pushed it through anyway. The new legislation made it illegal to send the student's mail in ballot to an out-of-state address, and made it a serious crime for parents to forward their child's mail-in ballot to them . College students, like military, have always been considered visitors or, at best, temporary residents of whatever state they are in. They are still considered residents of their own state, and they are required to pay out-of-state tuition. If they could simply register as residents of the state where they attend college why would anyone pay out-of-state tuition?

I had to vote by absentee ballot due to multiple blood clots in my lungs. Not allowed to travel until weeks after the election. Ballot has to be notarized or witnessed by 2, ( their info included for verification),and Photo of NC DL or at least the DL # to also prove identity. Did not receive until last Friday due to NC having to reprint ballots to remove Kennedy! I am worried with post office as it is that NC receives it on time. Will be mailed Friday when I can get ride to Post office!
