A comparison of the two gopros are on display in this video and you will see how the colors, audio and stabilization of the newer hero black 9 is just miles ahead. The larger battery and front display screen is sure to be a hit with people like myself that venture deep into the bush where no power is available. The additional weight is negligible and the larger display screen along with the front vlog screen is a game changer for the hero 9 black.

GoPro’s new Hero 9 Black action camera steps up the specs and features over the Hero 8, including 5K video resolution, better image stabilization, and more. Though the overall shape and design looks similar to its predecessor, a sharp eye will notice one of the other major improvements over the 8: a forward-facing color LCD screen. This allows for far easier framing of selfie-style shots.
Here’s a look at the most interesting specs and new features.
New Sensor
The most attention-grabbing headline feature of the Hero 9 is the 5K video resolution, which tops out at 30 frames per second. Drop that to 4K, and you can have 60fps. Even cooler, drop it down to 1080p and you can get an ultra-slow, ultra-smooth 240fps.
While 5K may seem excessive in an age of 4K TVs and even lower-resolution phones/tablets, it’s actually a great idea. First, the image will potentially be a bit sharper even if your eventual render is 4K or 1080p. It’s easier, and often better, to have more pixels and scale down than have fewer pixels and scale up. It also gives the image stabilization more pixels to work with, so even if it needs to crop the edges, you’ve still got plenty of pixels. There’s also the new horizon leveling feature, which will get to below.

Hero 7 is not attached to a handle or a pole and the way your son's holding it while running is different on how you hold it, his like focus on running while your focus in taking a video. I'm sorry but i think its not an equal test

You are totally correct in your thoughts here. My son just tried to run hard and beat me and unfortunately I was too tired to run that bus hill again. There is a noticeable difference in the two gopros but not to that extreme. Thanks for watching and sorry my comparisons were not good enough 😊

Excellent review Ryan ! That 9 out did the 7 by far I think especially in he stabilizing test ! All I kept thinking about was that scene in the marvel movie where Capt. Awesome review Ryan. I seen the ad pop up on Thursday about the GoPro9, so thought head into Harvey's in Nowra and they had no idea it was out. Until they checked the computer and realised they had stock. No other place had them so I ended up being a cheapo and ordering it through Go Pro themselves. They have a wicked deal on at the moment. Cant wait to test mine against my Hero 8.

They do have a great deal and that’s a good way to go. I’m pretty sure you will love it when you get it. I can’t speak for the 8 but it’s a fair upgrade from my 7 that’s been everywhere. GREAT comparison video Ryan. Can’t EVER FORGET the 1/2. I’d say you and I are EXACTLY the same height. Your son is HUGE 6’4”💪The hero 9 DEFINITELY looks MORE SHARP. Other than the front screen I didn’t see a lot of difference between that and the 8. I know the battery is better but I have several that will work. The 9 uses it’s own battery. Holy cow you did that review fast 👍 I saw last night that the 9 was available for purchase. If it's anything like the 8 make sure you get the lens protection. My first time out, the wind blew over my tripod. Almost messed up my 8. My biggest complaint about the 8 was it didn't come with an external mic jack. So I had to go out and buy the media attachment for like another $80. Anyways fantastic review 👍 My favorite part was when your boy kicked your butt running up that hill. Don't feel bad my son does track and wins me now too. Looking forward to seeing more footage with this 9, but overall it looks pretty impressive. I hope you have a great weekend my friend 👍

Montana Drone 😂😂😂 Yes Jeremy it only came out yesterday so I got it early. I really needed the upgrade and it’s really worth it for me. It has detachable lenses like the 7 they did not replicate the same mistakes as the 8. I never liked that feature either. I’m pretty sure the external mic Jack is now also gone and you can just plug a mic straight into the unit. Go pro advertises the light and mic packs they are going to be selling in the brochure but like everything I’m not sure of cost. I enjoyed running with Jesse chasing me it’s great he wanted to win so bad.....I love that trait 😊👍 I hope you have an awesome Friday mate 👍

Many people seem to think of 4K-8K all about whether or not you even have those screens to view it. The added resolution is idea for zooming/cropping footage for various reasons such as creativity or you weren’t able to get close enough to something. The added resolution allows for more cropping without making your video look like crap. If you have a 1080p production 4K/5K gives you a lot of potential flexibility.

Excellent review mate! I too use the hero 7 black at the moment. I’ll probably keep rocking it for a while since I have so many batteries and everything for it. That’s another difference between them right? Battery is different? That stabilization is wicked! And the slo mo. Just had a late nighter with Nate and Tom. Cody Carr Honestly Cody I’m sure any GoPro will be awesome no matter what you have. I did not edit sound or colour in any of the pictures to give a true representation. I only ever get one battery as I’m just lazy really and yes this ones battery is bigger than the others. Sounds like a lot of fun Nate said he was working on a new project with you guys. That’s how creativity will shine through in the future even more. The stabilisation is a lot better and twisting them in the car was probably the best example as they were taped together. Jesse used his arm to really pump up the hill to blow me away so that was over the top but I wasn’t doing a second take 😂😂😂 Have a great weekend mate 👍

Watched again mate. There are a few things I do like about the GoPro 9 over my 8. 1. The bigger LCD screen 2. The longer battery life 3. The front LCD screen In saying that having an 8 I just can't justify going up just yet. May have to wait and see what the 10 or 11 has. I'm hoping that one day GoPros will have a good zoom option. When I'm out surfing with the mates, Id like to be able to zoom into a wave in the distance and capture some good wave rides. Hope all is good mate. @@RyanIngleton Yep. I think I`ll keep the 8 for now mate. As far as zoom lenses go, I have seen some zoom lenses that can attach to gopros on ebay for around $70. Unfortunately for me the 8 is the only gopro that doesnt have a removalble lense so I may get one for my 5. The only problem thoughis that the zoom lens makes the camera not water proof which is a bumma for me because I was planning on using my 5 for my surfing videos. Hmmm. What to do!

@@RyanIngleton Yeh. Bombo hasn't been that great lately. I usually head down to Gerroa, only an extra 10 minutes and less crowd through the week. I find the north corner seems to get a bit more protection from the NE winds and usually gives me a better ride. I`m not a great surfer either so good to have some space mate.Thinking about doing a few surf vids now. Good to see you working a little closer to home. Closer than Ulladulla anyway.

eNeVe Family Thanks for watching I really appreciate it. If your watching off a phone it’s hard to tell the difference in the imagery but on a tv the sharpness and quality can be seen more easily. If you just watch the 7 footage in a video it’s awesome anyway especially for my ageing eyes. The stabilisation is a massive difference and a great improvement if action sports are what your looking for. The big screen is also helpful 😊

I have the front screen on all the time. ( I’m not even sure you can turn it off to be honest ) and the battery life is noticeably longer. I’m really impressed with how long the battery performs 👍

Great review. I use hero 7 black and you can clearly see a difference in smoothness and quality on that side by side you did. I did notice that the 9 was a bit slower but maybe in future updates they can fix that! 😂 excellent job 💯🔥🔥🔥

I've never owned a gopro before and I'm looking to get one mainly for my motorcycle, I was looking at either Hero 7/8/9 any recommendations or advices on which one I should go for?.

Dawid Kupiec I would buy the 9 hands down if it is within your budget. The additional features along with the extra battery life being 30% is so noticeable and saves the chore of charging. The feature you will enjoy the most is that the 9 along with the 7 has an interchangeable front lens so if a rock flies up and breaks the lens you can just unscrew it. The 8 however does not have this feature so it will needs to be returned to GoPro so a new case can be fitted. The nine also has a better self levelling stabilisation time give you a smoother film than all the others however both the 7 and 8 are also pretty good in this department. One thing I noticed is the 9 really cuts t he wind noise down compared to the 7 so the microphones must have better sensors what to include and what to exclude in the buffering. I’ve only had the 9 for 6 weeks now but I can say it’s a totally better camera than my 7 and the natural colours it picks up is a lot brighter straight out of the box. I hope this helps you out mate and you enjoy your riding 👍

They have brackets that fold down to attack to your mounts built into the camera. Hard to explain but you will know what I mean when you get it. I’m really happy with mine and I’m sure you will be too mate. 😊👍

Nice review Ryan. I got a laugh at your son running and waving the 7 around like he was trying to swat Flies. The 9 has slightly better stability by the looks. Colour wise very similar. As for 5k, useless unless u have 5k equipment to watch it on.. stay safe mate. 👍

TheHuski 😂😂😂 That’s so true I said to him what were you doing there. His response was I needed that arm to catch you. 😂😂 No second takes I’m afraid that was steeper than the camera showed but the real test was when they were taped together in the car. It’s a lot more stable and I never colour graded or changed audio in any of the footage to give a real basic simple comparison. I’m not a tech nerd so that’s why I didn’t include all the real stats you read from a book 🤷‍♂️

That is true if you view everything off a phone. I recently tried it on my dirt bikes and played it on the TV. You could tell the difference there but honestly the 7 is just an awesome camera 👍

@@RyanIngleton its like with the phones, almost every year a new model appears. But its just annoying too expensive to always get the actual one. So I always check if its really necessary. Like with the new gopro 8 and 9 I don't like that mount rings to fix the camera are part of the camera case. If broken once you have to replace the camera

M. Hoffman I’m with you on the mount rings. I’m not sure how well they will go as it’s early days but I can say they are bolted onto the camera with 2 x screws each side so replacement will be very minimal. ( star shaped Allen keys fix to camera body ) I never buy new products each year only every few years. As you can see by my review I’m not a tech genius but I am impressed with this. I just took it for a motorbike ride across my farm and the video quality was excellent and the stabilisation was the same. I will be posting it in a day or two but it’s more of a vlog with my other son not really about the camera.

I don't think it a fair comparison. First ur sun is shaking h7 extremely .but your carefully running without shaking h9 plus h9 is attached to a handle and you shaking your hand as if it's a gimble.

Your totally correct on that comparison mate. He tried to. Arch me I taped of running properly and I was too tired to run it again. There is a noticeable difference between the two devices but not that much different. Thanks for watching mate and if you have a 7 keep it as they are awesome but if your looking at buying a new unit and have some spare cash it’s well worth it. I’ve used it a bit now and the 9 is better in many ways........but only if you really compare. Let’s face it our eyes are only so good and the 7 is a legend 👍😊

shamil ahamed It is really worth it mate in my opinion. It’s visibility with both screens is so bright and very clear for vlogging or filming family. The battery life is noticeable but I only ever use one battery so if you have more batteries for your seven that’s no concern. 5k is another great upgrade for people who love to edit and crop frames in there filming but I rarely zoom in on filming and I do not have a 5k Tv to really exploit. If you do not currently have a GoPro but the 9 in a heartbeat. You can also remove the battery or the SIM card while it’s attached to a selfie stick where the 7 needs the entire cages removed to do that. It’s the little things where it is better but again it’s got to be something you feel comfortable about spending the money on. I’m sure in a few months a sale will be on so wait it out if that’s better for you mate 😊

Honestly the 9 is better. It’s lcd screen a brighter and bigger on Boyne sides of the camera. The battery life Is noticeably better and on a TV the quality is noticeable. That said if you have a 7 then you have everything you need as they are awesome. It’s only if your looking at spending some spare cash I would recommend it. 😊

Solin Default I have the cannon M50 EOS mirrorless that was more expensive. It’s so hard to get everything right when filming and really needs lots of time and effort. The auto focus feature keeps changing even on active track mode. For vlogging it would be ok but if your filming yourself doing weights it’s will change and start focusing on the actual weights. The GoPro is ready to go straight out of the box and needs zero colour grading most of the time. Just a thought for you since I have both and find it extremely hard with the cannon. It takes amazing photos however.

Solin Default if your really good at photography and can set all the exposure, white balance, shutter speed etc and your lighting is great ( I film in 4k maybe 1080p is easier ) then you will excel with it. The GoPro is just point and shoot and the new 9 buffers the wind heaps better plus you can get the media mods. Either way you will have fun and enjoy either one mate. 😊

UniversalChat Chat one thing I can honestly say from my non technical background. If you own a 7 the new GoPro is miles ahead in battery life and visibility. If your not great at editing like myself the 9 will reduce your time colour grading and changing the audio. The audio is spot on in the 9 and I believe the new Vlog packs will not require the $80 3.5mm plug adaptor. Basically the front screen is so bright and you can see yourself in it super clear. The slow mo is so easy and you can slow it down or put it into real time on the go. The 5k is great but you need and expensive pro memory card plus a device to play it back on that can keep up with the 5k. If you love your 7 keep it, as it’s great but if you would like a little more and was curious then you won’t be disappointed in completing the upgrade. The new stabilisation is also heaps better as you saw in the car but my son running wasn’t great as he was swinging his arm to catch me and I was too tired to run it again. That’s the best I can do mate from an uneducated tech nobody. I just film my family having fun on it too keep memories for the future. 👍
