You know what I appreciate? I appreciate mechanics (or technicians, if you prefer) who do the KZbin thing who when they have a moment of struggle and frustration with something as "simple" as a tail light bulb leave that footage in the video. It reminds us viewers that you're real people, and it makes you relatable to us who are non-pros doing these repairs in our home garages/driveways. I once (ok, more than once) got so frustrated by a simple fix on my car that I had to walk away for awhile (long enough for a coffee) and when I came back I completed the fix in like 5 seconds. Thanks for keeping it real, Ray.

I watch Ray in part for the calming, but also for the little tips and tricks that make working on my own stuff just that little bit easier. Also, it's nice to see tools in use that I had no idea what they were for, or that a tool for that use even existed(!).
@ToddAdams12342 жыл бұрын
And then the “ingenuity” that Ray comes up with/for those different tools that people just have no idea about or using them in ways that they are NOT really marketed for doing, but do that job QUITE WELL and handily. That’s just ONE of the reasons that I subscribed to this channel!
@scannerlanier4712 жыл бұрын
That always frustrates me with customers. You show up, they walk you to the copier ( I fix commercial copiers). They come back 30 seconds later and say "well what did you find?" Hang on let me grab my magic wand and crystal ball. Then you have the part that can go together 2 ways with only one of them right. You have to figure it out which can be really frustrating when they are breathing over you or walking through your work zone. Came from a hospital Friday. Copier in nurses station. You can enter it left or right side. I am working on copier on right side. About 75% of the lazy butts walked right over my work area than enter on other side. We are talking maybe 15 feet more to walk around and not interrupt me. Wish I could do a youtube video showing how inconsiderate these nurses were.

Several years ago, my vehicle had a faulty fuel gauge sending unit. That particular vehicle required to have the gas tank removed to replace it. The mechanic quoted me several hundred dollars for the job, but then suggested I don't do it. The fuel pump was still sending fuel, and I knew how far I could go on a full tank, so I just watched the odometer instead. Because that mechanic didn't do the work, I've used them for many years and many vehicles since. Like Ray said, sometimes not pushing for profit leads to profit.

One of my employees had an identical Sonata. It took me 15 minutes to change the bulb. 1 minute to get the old one out and 14 to get the socket back in. I appreciate your honesty with the customer about the findings with the CV Joint. My first thought when you dropped the rock shield down is that the last oil change got rather messy. Someone may have not tightened the filter causing lots of oil to spray went they started the car to check for leaks. Once discovered they probably replaced the filter with a new one or cleaned it up really well but didn't clean the oil sitting on the upper side of the rock shield. Later the puddles of oil left up there dripped out as the car was parked on a less than level parking area. I only say this because that is exactly what happen to mine one time when I took it to a quick lube center for an oil change. ;-)

I would love to offer a constructive tip... Whenever you take those rear wipers off (even though you CAN break it free) and they're very rusty, just for the sake of not putting too much stress on the gear train or the very thin sheet metal mounts of the motor assembly, you should always use penetrating oil before loosening those wiper bolts. I specialize in small Japanese cars, and I can tell you it takes SHOCKINGLY little torque to at the very least bend or tweak the mounts for those rear wiper motors. It may not look like any damage was done, but you may have at the very least put additional strain by making the shaft of the wiper motor not align with the hole, hence more friction to work against and seals that can get worn down... Love you Ray, just my two cents for extra style points. 👍

As a 74 year old 'seasoned citizen' I applaud your ethos. My local garage owner has the same ethos and it serves him well. I have always recommend him as I trust him 100%. I take my car in for a full annual service and MOT test as I have done for the last 20+ years and I know with absolute certainty it will be spot on without being ripped off. In fact he too often does work he won't charge for if it takes only a short time to sort out. He knows the score. I do not want it back unless it is 100% and I know he will only get back to me if a repair simply isn't worth the outlay or expensive parts may be required. I have had only two cars in all that time and the guy has kept them in tip top condition and saved me £1k's in the process. Until I found this guy I would perhaps change my car every couple of years losing money in the process. Spending money on regular maintenance actually saves money big time in the long run but there again I'm not a car snob and don't give a toss about how old or out of date it is just so long as it's comfortable, safe and reliable.
