Really like these videos. My licence has been lapsed for 6+ years but I'm hoping to get it revalidated this year. These videos certainly help keep the dream alive. When I last flew it was from Compton Abbas and that's where I'll be doing my refresher training and revalidation - all being well - so this latest video is close to home for me. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. May have to invest in a GoPro Hero myself when I start flying again. :-)

You're welcome, keep posted I have more planned. Good luck with your revalidating, I'm glad I can provide some mental boost to help you get back in the air.

I was actually flying the same day you came up to Compton! The day you flew up I was doing my dual down to Dunkeswell. Hope you liked Compton as I love flying from there. The views are amazing! We must have missed each other by about 20 minutes as, as you departed I was returning from Dunkeswell via Blandford. Am off soloing down to Dunkeswell hopefully next week. Planning to take my GoPro! Another great Video! Looking forward to more soon!

Excellent, I hope to see your video soon. I went to Dunkeswell many times on the CPL and did my circuit pattern there for my skills test. Lovely place, except the use of the unlicenced runway 17/35 whilst 23/05 is in use. I love Compton Abbas, I was there for the Italian day too, fantastic day out. Will upload the pics to my website by the end of the week, see the video description for link.

Really enjoying your videos. Used to watch them ages ago but good to see your back again. I'm planning to start lessons next year once I'm in the RAF. Should be a great experience, and it really helps to see videos like this which are largely unedited and still informative and interesting. Keep up the good work :-)

Thank you, I've still got a few more to upload yet which I'll trickle through over the next week or so, then hopefully I'll do some more teaching videos on Nav aids, and procedural approaches etc.

Thanks for the comment, my CPL is all finished, as is my MEP rating, Instrument rating & MCC. All done after 6 years...phew. There's more to come, and maybe...just maybe and twin engine video coming soon :)

Loved this such a great video! You sound much more confident now after all your commercial training!
@Goproflying10 жыл бұрын
The difference is amazing, I've learnt more in the last 10 months than I have in the last 4 years. Commercial and Instrument training change the way you think and fly. I wish all PPL training was consistent and trained to the same level as a commercial school, there would be many better pilots out there!

Hey mate, I've watched a few of your videos, great stuff and congrats with the CPL. Am I right in thinking you're taking a "modular" approach to your training? I assume this since you said it's taken you several years so far unlike the guys that seem to be easyjet cadets etc. I'm a pilot in Australia and we do things a bit differently here compared to the integrated programs in the UK, and just curious what your intentions/opportunities are after your training.
@Goproflying10 жыл бұрын
You're correct, I did all my training Modular. The choice was for financial reasons as I paid for most of my own training, and didn't have access to a large sum of money up front. I've been offered a job teaching ATPL ground school for a large FTO in the UK as well as teaching maths and physics for a pilot degree program. I'm still looking for a flying job, but there are financial reasons why it's a little easier to get a ground based job in the short term.

Do you find it easier to write on your knee-board on the right leg? I notice your left handed like myself but I always put my knee-board on the left knee
@Goproflying8 жыл бұрын
good question. it's a pain as there isn't a lot of room on the left hand side of the aircraft. I tend to place the knee board in my left leg and write on there. after a while your memory takes over and you find you need to write less

Why do you do a mag check post flight?
@Goproflying10 жыл бұрын
It is a dead cut check before shut down to make sure both mags are being isolated by the switch, otherwise you could unknowingly leave an aircraft with a live mag.

the earth look,s flat from there funny there.s no curvature in sight aswell i,ll need to look at this a bit closer
@Goproflying8 жыл бұрын
+ramsay mc ewan From 2,000ft you're not going to see much curvature. The Earth curves at a rate of about 8 inches per statute mile. You need to get a lot higher to see anything.
@ramsaymcewan82958 жыл бұрын
+GoPro Flying thats right go pro flying 8 inches per mile.. squared..so would the eye level horizon not start dropping at 2000 ft and do you take into account the curvature when your flying
