One thing to consider when watching head to head reviews...DJI never claimed the Osmo Action 3 would best GoPro Hero 11 in all categories, if they did, they would of priced the Osmo Action 3 at the same price as GoPro Hero 11. What it does do, is it makes it easier for creators via internal menu driven options and a robust ecosystem. DJI is targeting a specific audience Just a thought....

I'll go for DJI. Better price value, better battery running time, fast charge, live streaming to phone app doesn't stop when recording as with GoPro, better low light ability, fast mount system, free video cutting app for quick video production on the go, higher water resistance, way bigger temperature working range. No 5k, but who cares. I don't have a 5k screen. Nobody has. You can watch it on a native 4 k screen or if you have an 8k screen, the footage will be upscaled anyway, no matter if 4k or 5k. Will go for the big package with 3 battery and charger box and that's still cheaper than the GoPro with one battery.
@ExHanseat2 жыл бұрын
@Ailsa Ni Sorry, but I don't see much difference in the approaches of video taking, besides different picture stabilization methods aka algorithm. Both cameras aim for the same user group. Both cameras aim for the same sports and enthusiasts, who want to show there adventures to friends or to the world. DJI simple has the better usability, because it offers a wider range in temperature acceptance, low light situations, water resistance and battery live aka recording time. DJI's battery's can fast charge and can be used again when GoPro is still hooked to the charger for twice the time. What pisses me off the most at GoPro, is that you have to subscribe annually to get full access to all editing function of the app. With DJI you pay less, get more and are not charged again after one year to use full functions of the gear you've already paid for.

One thing I will say from personal experience, is GoPro needs to get their overheating issues solved, I’m a firefighter and have shot film off our trucks on wildfires with the original Osmo Action and it didn’t overheat or shut down once. Dang near melted it several times but it held up like a champ. Actually was gonna write them a letter asking them to bring this camera back because it was so good. Never had any issues. Used a GoPro 9 once and it was 90 degrees out and it shut down after twenty minutes. I’m excited to see how this new one does and excited to see if GoPro maybe finally got their act together, and now it’s even more competitive since there will be ten bit color in the osmo action! One thing to note is that Osmo Action has two codec formats now, instead of just H-264, it’s also got HEVC in addition to H-264.

It's worth bearing in mind though people taking things seriously are going to shoot with flat colour profiles, and sharpness turned down (GoPro traditionally over sharpens). They are also likely to lock certain aspects of the exposure. With that in mind I'm curious to see what each look like once processed in in FCPX, DaVinci, Premier, or whatever.
@kir112 жыл бұрын
@@defylifeadventure Yes Carl. I`m shooting cinelike profile and colorcorrecting every my videos. Correct me if i wrong, turning flat profile will not return details, will not fix noise in dark areas. Or we need a side by side comparison of pictures with flat colours for advanced users. Do you have a plan to do this?
@defylifeadventure2 жыл бұрын
@@kir11 You are right a flat profile won't save details (well not in the way we are talking about). Things like foliage are usually the first to turn to mush. My point though was in this video we see above is using the standard out of the box settings and uploaded with no processing at all. GoPro's standard settings add a lot of sharpening, and contrast which in some instances makes the images looks more detailed. Now I'm sure that regardless of that, the GoPro does actually capture more detail, but it would be interesting to see them both as flat as possible with sharpness turned down, and then processed, just to see what kind of results can be achieved.

I own the DJI Action 3. One thing I like about it is the slimmer hand stick, and combo version with a total of 3 batteries with the kit and the slim 3-battery charging case. The 4k video image quality is sadly a bit more worse than my x GoPro 8. Low light performance is worse than the DJI Pocket 2 which has f1.8 . Good thing about the DJI is you can turn off the lens-front-side display screen, to make it less obvious that you're recording (can you do that with the 11?), as well as adjust the display brightness to save battery (can you do that with the 11?). The DJI Action 3 still has an ultra wide field of view with Horizon Balanace on (20mm or less). Does anyone from GoPro know what the focal length is with equivalent stabilization setting on the 11? I might sell my DJI Action 3 and get the GoPro 11.
@PrimalOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I really appreciated the comparisons. I would say on paper the GoPro seems like the winner, but I have a GoPro 10 and I have never had a bigger piece of crap. To the point the camera locked up and froze and did some much other random stuff that ruined footage that I went back to using my DJI Action 1. Based on my experience and the experience of friends who also have used GoPros, I would find it very hard to trust putting my money into a Gopro product again. So my money is going to the Action 3. Not only is it cheaper but my personal experience with DJI products has been much more positive. I will point out that when my GoPro did work, I did like the quality of footage over my Action 1, that of course is to be expected the Action 1 is long in the tooth, but when you return from a shoot that you can't redo reliability of my Action 1 trumps the often corrupted footage of the Gopro. @awilderireland2 жыл бұрын
Great to see DJI back on track after the Action 2 disappointment. I think all Osmo Action 1 fans will be very happy with this new camera. I actually bought a second Osmo 1 when the Action 2 came out as I thought it would be years (or never) before another model came out. Can't deal with GoPro. If I knew this was in the pipeline I would have held off. 🙂

What troubles have you had with your GoPros?
@awilderireland2 жыл бұрын
@@PerfectionHunter Don't like their pricing, gimmicky subscription con and yearly release of a new model. On a more practical level the new Osmo doesn't overheat at all in tests so far. The Hero 11 once again can only make it to 15 or 20 mins. The Osmo Actions just seem more reliable in use and user friendly. Everything from the physical quick switch button and intuitive menus. I think DJI are slower to release new models but do their homework to try to get it right rather than just releasing a model every year to gouge their followers like GoPro.
@annekedebruyn77972 жыл бұрын

@@annekedebruyn7797 Fair enough. But it's 50 bucks on top of an already expensive retail price. I prefer to buy an Osmo and get their refresh package. Still works out cheaper for a camera I prefer. But to each their own of course.

Thanks for the review. Lately, DJI action 3 camera users have been complaining about poor focus, do you think this is a factory defect? Does your camera have focus problems?
@bleach_meds5992 жыл бұрын
Looking at this, I don't think the DJI has better lowlight. The highlights in the image look over adjusted, and that is also prominent in the other shots at the beach. I think the GoPro looks more true with regards to the light ratio in the scene, and the image is overall more pleasant for that reason. Over contrasted highlights looks cheap, in my opinion, even in the context of lowlight use. We also can't forget the grain and loss of detail that you find in the DJI. To me, the GoPro takes the cake!
@Minsetti2 жыл бұрын
The GoPro would have the same grainy image but it has more aggressive noise reduction and thus less detail in low light situations. It's easy to get rid of the grain in edit but it's not possible to recover the detail from the already noise filtered video.

There's never been a better timed video. I'm buying my first action cam and waited for these two cameras to come out so I could decide. I love the blind side-by-side comparison. I even muted it the first time so I wasn't influenced by their opinions. I clicked on this knowing which one I _hoped_ was going to be better, but this video allowed me to decide without any bias.

Do you notice any banding on the 10bit GoPro Footage in the colors or in dark areas??
@stefpix2 жыл бұрын
I love the Hero 10, but I ordered the Action 3, much more compelling for my use. I mostly use action cams in the ocean, when I go spearfishing. Max depth of my spots is 10m, average of 6-8m. The Hero 10 never had a problem without the dive case (the case makes the image softer). The Action 3, with a deeper rating, gives me more confidence, I can take it to the occasional 15m deep reef without a case. Also, the 2-hour battery life is a nice upgrade. Anyway, even if I have spare batteries, I can not change them when the camera is in the ocean or not rinsed and dried. The DJI Osmo Action 3 has a better price. I prefer the GoPro flat colors, but in the end, the DJI has usability improvements. Now I use the Action 2 mounted on my speargun, as it is very light. But battery life is not great, and the field of view is very wide and shows distortion at the edges. But with any of these cameras, you can get great footage. I actually like the still photos I get from the Hero 10, raw files that I can edit in Adobe Lightroom. Hero 10 also improved the write speed of the burst mode still photos. I pre-ordered the Action 3 but will skip the Hero 11. The hydrophobic coating on the Hero 10 worked great, but it wears out. I need to replace the lens protector. The coating on the Hero 11 seems better than the Action 3, but milk is fatty, so maybe the same coating is more effective with water,

@@cyber8019 I’d be down to try it out. I mainly use my GoPro for FPV and some underwater stuff, and my Hero 9 hasn’t given out on me yet. As an Action 2 owner, the comparison was instantly obvious 😅 I was really rooting for DJI on this one, but unless you want it for diving, GoPro seems like a clear winner. I was expecting Mini to be close to 100g (and everyone called me crazy) but damn, 133g, that's 118 with both sets of mounting fingers removed which is still 2g more than Hero 8 with mounting fingers removed.... Eh, I guess we'll have to take it 😄 ... a Micro version with no battery like Bones, but with full waterproofing would have been perfect for FPV, but we're not nearly important enough.

DJI is better for low light shooting. It seems that nobody here mentioned that DJI will have a firmware upgrade to 10 bit a few months later just like they did with their other products. DJI also wins in the 'longer shooting hours without overheating' and faster screen response time. It's not all about video quality. It's good enough.
